About Pine Rivers Private Hospital – Strathpine

Pine Rivers Private Hospital at Strathpine, north of Brisbane, is a private adult mental health hospital run by Healthscope. For addictive behaviours it admits patients for combined medical and psychosocial treatment, including withdrawal management, and follows that with the Addictive Behaviours Day Programme after discharge.

Access runs through a psychiatrist accredited at the hospital: a GP or community psychiatrist refers, and the admissions coordinators then make contact with the patient. Other day programmes are available after discharge too, with outpatient assessments booked through the discharge coordinator. The hospital treats adults from 17 and also works with depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, psychosis and ADHD.

Pine Rivers Private Hospital Alcohol and Drug Services

Pine Rivers Private Hospital offers three levels of care for addictive behaviours at Strathpine: inpatient withdrawal management, the Addictive Behaviours Day Programme once the admission ends, and outpatient counselling. Medical and psychosocial treatment are combined during the admission rather than run as separate streams.

The hospital’s wider mental health work covers depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, psychosis and ADHD, which matters where addictive behaviours sit alongside one of those. Patients are 17 and over. No specific medications, substances or therapy models are named for the addiction programme in the research, so the admissions team is the place to ask what treatment involves.

How Much Does Treatment at Pine Rivers Private Hospital Cost?

Published prices for Pine Rivers Private Hospital weren’t found, so the research cannot say what an admission for withdrawal management or a place on the Addictive Behaviours Day Programme costs at Strathpine. Private health insurance is the funding route the hospital lists for its services.

As a rough frame, withdrawal management in Queensland typically costs A$3,000 to A$5,000 for a seven to ten day episode, depending on medical complexity and whether a hospital bed is involved and day programmes A$300 to A$500 a day, though a privately insured admission is usually settled between the fund and the hospital. Because entry depends on a referral to an accredited psychiatrist, the admissions office can set out excesses and gaps; contact Pine Rivers Private Hospital for pricing tailored to your needs.

Pine Rivers Private Hospital Reviews

Reviews of Pine Rivers Private Hospital from around the web are limited where the addiction programmes specifically are concerned, with most public comment addressing the hospital’s general mental health care. RehabSeekers hosts reviews, and former patients are welcome to describe what treatment at Strathpine was like.

The details that help most are the ones nobody publishes: how long it took from GP referral to admission, how withdrawal was managed on the ward, and whether the Addictive Behaviours Day Programme joined up properly with life after discharge. Family members who supported someone through an admission are welcome to write too.

I cannot speak more highly of the care I received when I had my TMS treatment, as an outpatient, at Pine Rivers Private hospital. From the admin staff to the nurses, I felt that they really cared about me and were of a… great support to me. I would like to say a special thank you to Jai(I think that's his name), who always greeted me, and all other patients by name when checking in. It makes a big difference to know that you are being treated as a person, not just a file number. I always felt comfortable and at ease when attending my treatments. To the point that I was sad when it finished as I enjoyed the lovely company there.

Normally I'd like to hit them hard, and most definitely I could (if you want to push me Pine Rivers don't worry, I bring receipts). I'll just say it's not for me. The nurses though a very caring which is why I'll leave… this as it is (they get 5 stars) May be for others, not for me? Please note my circumstances are not like others and noted more as a more complex situation. This is simply the observation of an unstable individual.

This facility is actively harmful to the health of its patients. Whilst an inpatient the psychiatrist wasted every conversation taking about his retirement. The GP refused very basic medical care. I was refused access… to psychological support and told by the doctor to sort it out myself via zoom with someone external to the hospital. There were nights where I was refused medications due to paperwork stuff ups and staff refusing to think. I missed many meals, which is rather harmful for those of us with disordered eating. As an outpatient, they were slightly better but failed to be consistent. It is disgusting that a mental health facility can fail on both access to medications and access to psychological support. As a prospective patient, I would strongly encourage you to to choose any other facility. Some nurses and staff truly care for their patients, but the overall incompetence of the hospital as a whole, makes their personal efforts often fruitless. The doctors and management are more invested in profit than health. On a positive note, when you leave the hospital, the view is delightful. Edit: As you can see from their uninterested reply, this hospital puts no effort into helping the people they harm.

My experience at Pine Rivers Private Hospital was deeply disappointing. For a psychiatric facility, I found there to be very little empathy, compassion, or emotional support from management and parts of the system.… During one of the most vulnerable periods of my life, I often felt dismissed rather than cared for. I also found the food and overall approach to patient wellbeing extremely poor. Diet, nutrition, exercise, sunlight, movement, and routine are incredibly important for mental health recovery, yet in my experience these areas were seriously lacking. What also stood out to me was the lack of communication between departments. This is not a particularly large hospital, yet I repeatedly experienced conflicting information, poor follow-up, and breakdowns in communication between staff and departments, which added unnecessary stress during an already difficult time. I do want to acknowledge that there are some genuinely kind and caring staff members working there. Some nurses and staff clearly do care deeply about patients. However, from what I observed, staff morale appears poor and there seems to be a high turnover of good staff. In my opinion, the better staff are not always supported or valued the way they should be, and patients ultimately feel the impact of that. There also appeared to be very limited psychiatric-trained support staff outside of the treating psychiatrists themselves, which made the environment feel far less therapeutic than advertised. What upset me most was the difficulty I experienced trying to access my own medical records. Instead of transparency and support, I felt stressed, blocked, and unsupported while already struggling mentally and emotionally. The hospital advertises that “patients come first.” Based on my own personal experience, I do not believe that statement reflected the care I received. Mental health patients deserve dignity, compassion, proper advocacy, and genuine support — not added distress. This review reflects my personal experience.

My experience with Pine River Private Hospital was amazing. I went there for TMS therapy and I can honestly say without a doubt that their service was fantastic. From the reception staff to the ladies in the TMS rooms… they welcomed me with kindness and patience. Not once was I judged. They made me feel relaxed and reassured in all aspects. Thank you staff for doing an excellent job. Paula

Have been to for psychiatrists appointments and TMS therapy. Reception, nurses, even the trainees are all so very polite and helpful. Very accommodating and polite, only the Drs let down a bit as they are difficult to… reach sometimes, but otherwise facility is amazing.

Where do I even begin. I have had multiple admissions to this hospital, and each one worsened my condition immensely. I was put on what my outside doctor described as a strange, massive combination of medications and… treated like a guinea pig, with no proper review or long-term plan. I eventually became heavily dependent on them, and at no point did any doctor reassess my treatment or explain when or how I would safely come off the medications. This experience destroyed my mental state to the point where I tried ending my life. I saw this hospital as my only hope, since I couldn’t travel far due to my condition. I switched psychiatrists within the hospital, hoping for better care, but that only made things worse. I had multiple rounds of TMS, but I don’t believe they helped because of the extreme medication mix. Throughout my stays, I felt invisible. Only one nurse consistently showed care, and I am deeply grateful for them. Others were rude or dismissive, and when I raised concerns about other patients trying to harm my reputation or safety, I was told to just deal with it. When I later saw one of the psychiatrists from the hospital in his private clinic, he said, “That’s a massive dose, I don’t really like prescribing that medication either,” even though he was the one who originally prescribed it. I have never felt more defeated or dismissed. The only bright spot in this hospital was the food, thanks to one exceptional chef. Aside from that, the staff and structure left much to be desired. One nurse even mocked me when I reported a man passed out on the footpath outside, saying, “Oh, he’s trying to be a hero,” which was shocking and deeply inappropriate. The only thing that truly helped me was taking matters into my own hands. I spent two years studying the brain, body, medications, diet, and psychology. With the guidance of my amazing GP, I was able to safely come off the medications, as I had completely lost trust in psychiatric care at this hospital. I have worked tirelessly to undo the damage this caused and rebuild my life. This establishment needs serious review. It should be thoroughly investigated and restructured with competent staff, clear treatment protocols, and proper management. Someone I deeply care about also attended this hospital and went through a very similar experience. I pray every day that she recovers, comes off the medications safely, and finds happiness again, because I can no longer assist her unfortunately. The impact of this hospital is so severe that I cannot even go near the road leading to it. Simply writing this review brings back immense distress. I hope others read this and proceed with caution if they or someone they love must attend. Putting people onto multiple high-dose, addictive medications for long periods, constantly upping the doses without care, plan, or explanation and turning them into dependents just to silence them or keep them coming back is nothing short of demonically evil.

The outpatient team, including day program staff, and the psychologists I've crossed paths with over the last year are very down to earth, knowledgable, and humane in the way they practice; they treat you like a person,… an individual who matters.

I have been inpatient many times at various facilities, but I have never had such a positive experience to share as I did with pine rivers. They treat you like a human being, they actually approach you and talk to you… if they notice you are struggling and overall I never once felt as though I was a burden to them by being there. I will 100% be coming back for any future treatments from now on. The groups are genuinely helpful (big shout out to Scott's groups there!!) and the variety is nice to see. Thank you for making my situation less difficult than it could have been. I appreciate you all very much.

A 6 month waiting list for the staff to screw up every time I have been admitted. Pathetic doctors that don’t tell you when they change your meds. Incompetent administration that lose referrals, push back administration… dates and don’t communicate. Only 2 psych appointments that doesn’t have enough time to achieve anything. Go somewhere else if you care about your mental health. This place needs to be taken back to the drawing board. Public system is much better than this place. Don’t waste your time or money.

Despite having a referral from my GP, involving serious mental distress, they left me without a response for almost 6 months, despite numerous calls to try and contact them. After finally getting to a consultation… session for one of their programs, they charged me almost $600 for said 30 minute!!!! consultation. Wish I had not sought them out and I wish that I could leave a zero star rating.

Just spoke to a lady an hour ago who supposedly is Manajali Indian accent ? I asked for recommendations as l struggle with PTSD having a,mental health break down and she was so dismissive and said to not bother coming… and refused for me to talk to a doctor. She offered no help or advice to come back or anything ? I've never been here but I hope she loses her job as that's not on for veterans with PTSD

Worst hospital I have ever been admitted to. Hygiene and staff are the issues. In terms of hygiene issues: when I arrived there was mould on the cupboard in my room, various vomit-like stains on the curtain in my room… (see photos attached), plus other people’s hair in my bathroom that were there on the day of admission. All nurses (minus like 2) are rude and abrasive and they couldn’t care less about the patients wellbeing. They are very unprofessional with their treatment of patients. I have not been spoken to or had a single conversation with any nurses at all during my stay. I have witnessed nurses refuse patients their prescription medications with no legal or medical justifications, just because they can. Nurses are paranoid about patients talking when they can’t hear their conversations because they don’t like that patients discussing how horrible the staff and hospital are. If patients are talking and they can’t hear the conversation they pace back and forward past the conversation for literally no reason other than to eavesdrop and/or they make silly excuses to interject themselves in attempts to hear the conversation and stop it from happening. Highly DO NOT recommend this hospital. It was a waste of money and made my mental health worse just by being in there.

Stayed as an inpatient and wasn’t a big fan, not the right environment for me I guess. Tried an outpatient day program instead. Having mental issues, there was a lot of anxiety and the class was a bit full on. I did my… absolute best and stayed as long as I could but it became too much for one day and I had to leave about one hour early. I told them I wanted to continue the following week and keep trying. They said it would count as a missed day and I couldn’t finish the program. I was a mess, at my worst mentally and emotionally…and instead of supporting me through the rest of the program, they kicked me out. I was told that is their policy. If you can’t make it through the whole day, you’re done. Steer clear.

Please do not go to this hospital. Besides the 1 or 2 staff who actually care, it will be a horrible experience. It’s run more like a business than a hospital. Most of the staff are either completely incompetent or have… checked out. Find another hospital to go to for help.

I have been coming here for 15 years, as an outpatient & an inpatient. Time does change things. The outpatient groups are terrific. The inpatient area( which I had been admitted MANY TIMES of people telling to, This one… tho was myself admitting myself 🤣, has had its ups & downs. This time & Christmas 2024 was ok . But the previous year of Xmas 2023, was horrible, because of a nurse I shall not name, and she gave me a big DEATH STARE this admission. The end 🤣🤣

Was hoping to get treatment here but get told they have no admitting doctors taking any new patients? I’m sorry but you’re a private hospital how can you not have any available doctors? but I can feel free to see them… as an out patient ?????? sounds like they just want to cash grab by seeing people as out patients opposed to seeing patients as a inpatient lmao

This review is just for Jackie (not sure if this is how they spell it). Jackie was the receptionist who took my call inquiring about wait time, costs and what to expect from the treatment process. Jackie was patient,… understanding, kind and knowledgeable. They wern't frustrated with my lack of understanding and they explained to me the different treatment options. I mean this in the sense that Jackie took the time to explain that there are differences in pricing and treatment based on long term management with phyciatry and a once off visit for medication review. They explained the possible medical tests I might require the price for each kind of appointment. They lemented the difficulties we all go though finding appointments and trying to get information around how many sessions to plan for. I have called over 50 (at least) different phyciatrists over the past 6 months and have either not had appointments available, don't treat ADHD, or can not tell me how many appointments I would have to attend to get a yes or no to my question of can I be medicated. I have a wonderful treating team and have been suggested strongly to find a phyciatrist. The finding a phycitrsit part of my journey has been the hardest part so far. Jackie has been a small light that has given me the glimmer of hope I needed to keep pushing. A small conversation with a kind tone has made a great change to me and I want both Jackie and all health staff to know what a difference the good ones make. Thank you for giving me the energy to keep pushing. It means the world to me. Thank you Jackie.

Started out as a relatively positive, straightforward experience but became a nightmare the more I attended. I felt like the place was more money-centric than patient centred. This was made evident on multiple occasions… when my appointments would be rescheduled at the drop of a hat because of a payment error outside of my control. On multiple occasions, I left feeling extremely let down, chastised, belittled, and alone.
