About DASSA Outpatient Services – Mount Barker

DASSA Outpatient Services runs a free, confidential alcohol and other drug clinic on Wellington Road at Mount Barker, South Australia. Drug and Alcohol Services (SA) operates the site, which is open to individuals with severe or complex alcohol or other drug problems, and no referral is needed before making contact.

Assessment and referral, outreach, withdrawal management and counselling make up what the clinic lists, and its catchment reaches beyond the town to Kangaroo Island, Strathalbyn, Gumeracha and Birdwood. Opening is limited to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, so the intake team works a short week; the statewide alcohol and drug line on 1300 131 340 takes first enquiries and can advise on what happens next.

Facility Type

Outpatient Mental Health Clinic

DASSA Outpatient Services Alcohol and Drug Services

Mount Barker’s DASSA clinic lists four strands of care: assessment and referral, outreach, withdrawal management and outpatient counselling. Everything is delivered on a non-residential basis, so you or a loved one attends appointments on Wellington Road and returns home, with outreach workers able to travel out across the surrounding district.

Which substances the clinic treats, which medications it offers and which therapies the counselling team uses are not set out in detail, so ask at the first contact. Withdrawal management appears among the services, though the setting for it is not stated, and the opioid treatment programme offered at some DASSA sites is not listed here.

Where Is DASSA Outpatient Services?

DASSA Outpatient Services occupies 87 Wellington Road at Mount Barker, South Australia; the site’s postcode is not given in the details held for this clinic. Outreach from this base also covers Kangaroo Island, Strathalbyn, Gumeracha and Birdwood, so some appointments happen closer to home.

How Much Does Treatment at DASSA Outpatient Services Cost?

Treatment at the Mount Barker DASSA clinic is free. Drug and Alcohol Services (SA) delivers it as a public health service, and the service states there is no cost to the client, which covers assessment, counselling, outreach contact and the withdrawal management the clinic provides.

Private health insurance is not needed, and no Medicare rebate, NDIS or WorkCover arrangement is listed for this clinic. Travel to Wellington Road on a clinic day is the practical expense to plan for, and the outreach arrangement may reduce it for those living on Kangaroo Island or around Strathalbyn. Ask the intake team what is covered.

DASSA Outpatient Services Reviews

Reviews of the Mount Barker DASSA clinic from around the web are limited, which is usual for small public outpatient sites in regional South Australia. RehabSeekers hosts reviews for this service, and anyone who has attended the Wellington Road clinic is welcome to share what the experience was like.

Feedback that does appear online often covers Drug and Alcohol Services (SA) statewide rather than this particular clinic. An account of how quickly an assessment was offered, what the counselling sessions were like, or how outreach worked for someone living out at Birdwood or Gumeracha would help you or someone you care about picture the service here.

Please if you attend Mount Barker ED with neck or chest pain even if it maybe the result of moving or lifting something heavy Please ensure blood and an ECG is taken especially if you are a woman as heart attacks can… present differently too men. Please ensure this is ruled out before they put it down too muscular pain the result can be catastrophic if this is over looked and dismissed as it was in the experience of my family

Don’t bother with the ED. Waiting 4+ hours and still not seen to, while others with less symptoms have been and gone. Just drive to Adelaide if you actually need help.

The maternity ward is absolutely incredible. I had my baby here just under 2 months ago and don’t have one negative thing to say. I was a bit worried as this is my first baby and the public system can be a bit hit or… miss but this hospital exceeded all expectations. From my first antenatal visit up until being discharged after I had my baby, every midwife, doctor, anaesthetist, were absolutely beyond amazing. Even Julie the receptionist of the maternity ward was so warm and welcoming every visit and I always looked forward to it. All my choices and preferences were always advocated and there was nothing that was too much or not possible. Every midwife we had took such amazing care of myself and my baby and even went out of their way to also cater for my husband and make sure he was comfortable also which just make the experience so much more lovely for us. I cannot fault anything, the facilities were amazing. Super clean and well kept. Private rooms and even the food was great, my husband has stayed at many different hospitals and this was the first time he was able to actually enjoy hospital food. The midwives that helped to bring my daughter in the world will forever have a special place in my heart and I will never forget the love and kindness they showed me during one of the hardest times of my life. After I had my baby I struggled with breastfeeding a bit and all the midwives were so helpful and never made me feel bad about it and did everything they could to make sure I was confident before leaving the hospital. I actually feel homesick for this hospital sometimes and am already looking forward to having my next baby here. Thank you so much Mount Barker maternity and to all the amazing staff that make this hospital so great and if you are having a baby here soon, you’re in such safe and hands and I’m honestly jealous of you haha ❤️

Took my partner at midnight on a weeknight recently after he woke in severe pain with vomiting 🤢. The staff triaged him very quickly and he was admitted to ED being cared for by the caring RNs Wes and Sue and Team… Leader Cherie. Dr Issac was timely in getting pain management ordered along with radiology booked. We had pain managed quickly and diagnosis in a few hours after oncall radiology was reported. Thank you, your compassion and care was outstanding ❤️

Broke my wrist and came into emergency. The staff were incredible. Caring, efficient and made me feel so comfortable. I had such a great experience considering the amount of pain I was in. I could rave on and on about… how they looked after me. Thank you so much, I’ll never forget it.

My 3 year old was in so much pain because of an injured hand. My husband took him to the ED and while waiting for the 3rd window, a random guy cut in front of them and the staff did nothing. When he brought it up to the… admin, they said nothing. Its been 4 hours and they are still waiting, people, adults that arrived before them were seen first. My child was crying from pain, but other people who didn’t seem to be in obvious pain were seen first. We know how triage works, didn’t know the color of our skin was part of that.

The ED team at Mt Barker Hospital is amazing. I went in on Monday in so much pain and very scared. The team was so kind, warm and friendly. They explained everything really clearly and were able to diagnose my in a few… hours. There was a lovely volunteer Ian that got me a warm blanket and pushed me to and from the different areas I needed to go. I hope I never have to go to ED again, but if I had to, i know the mount barker team would take great care of me. Thank you to every single person that helped me!

My mum came into ED with chest pain, she was taken around to have xray. The put her in the corridor and left her there for well over an hour and she still would have been there had I not asked the nurse in ED to find… out what was going on. They kept bringing other people in after mum but left her in the hallway. It was despicable and I will never recommend this radiology. Avoid at all costs or your loved ones might be the next one left in a hallway forgotten. SECOND REVIEW I was a patient in the ED and I received phenomenal care. The nursing staff were absolutely amazing and kind. I cannot speak more highly of the nurses who looked after me. I stand by my first review about radiology but the nursing staff for my visit were incredible and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

My son spent all Saturday at emergency due to a footy injury. I would like to thank every single person we talked to, looked after our son, took the time to keep us informed and explained to him what was going and next… steps. The quality and warmth, care and kindness was beyond everything I have ever experienced. Thank you Mount Barker hospital emergency service. You helped us through some scary moments!
