Quality people and environment. I recommend it.
Great for proper mental health recovery. The team actually takes each client/student personal.
Simcha Cohen was the most unprofessional mental health "professional" I've had the misfortune of crossing paths with. She presents an image of being very professional and polished, but after my experience with her… personally and upon reviewing my medical records following my time spent under her "care" I can't believe what a mistake it was to seek out help. I needed the help, given the fact that I was 20 years old living alone in Chicago getting intensive medical treatments for my physical health conditions that affected my mental health, and sought out mental health support while I underwent my medical treatments through an MD downtown Chicago. Upon reviewing my records she warped a lot of the facts to fit the narrative she formed that I wasn't actually physically sick, but rather had somatic symptom disorder and my health issues were as she stated a "delusion", despite extensive medical records and lab work supporting my physical health conditions and the fact that I was actively getting medical treatments through an MD while I was seeing her, the entire reason I was relocating to Chicago. I quit going to therapy because I felt like it was doing more harm than good with Simcha Cohen as my provider and the groups often felt more like school (i.e. filling out worksheets) so discharged from the program. I still continued to struggle because I needed support during that dark time, but after being burned by that experience I felt less willing to seek out the support that I needed and deserved. I would write this review on a Google page for her, but her new practice doesn't have Google reviews set up (not surprising).
The services offered here do not meet ethical standards. They are severely short staffed and cannot give each patient the attention they need. Don’t waste your time and money here. You deserve better.
Not a good experience. My child was there a year ago.
My daughter was in the PHP program for anorexia for 3 weeks, and then she was transferred to their residential program in WI. The PHP program is a decent one, but it is light (5 days a week, 6 hours long). It is not… truly partial hospitalization. It is based more on exposures. They let the kids stay alone in a room to fill out surveys, which is not good. Space is also tight. The staff was great. There are better programs around.
HUGE mistake to bring my son here. They admitted him without fully screening him to see if their program was a right fit, and I wish they would have told me up front that they are incapable of handling combative… behaviors, even though I was very transparent during intake. Frustrated with being stuck waiting in little rooms for hours on end, my son was easily agitated. Rather than allowing me to intervene as he escalated (they insisted I "disengage") they allowed him to pick up objects which he then either threw or held up in defense mode, leading them to give up on him - obviously he was set up for failure. They also allowed him to run around hallways and ESCAPE from their secured area, leading to a 30-minute hunt for a 9-year-old boy throughout stairwells that lead outside near a very busy street. During discharge, they suggested a more aggressive medication for the sake of "calming" him, and suggested places out of state to send him to. Then they had the gall to charge me hundreds of dollars for THEIR negligent treatment of my son, and our family's further life disruption by keeping him kicked out of school. Fast forward to a year later, and we found a great local school for our son - a therapeutic day school that is designed for autistic kids. Thanks to a school that knows what they're doing, our son is thriving there, and he very obviously did not need to be institutionalized or over-medicated. Rogers... how dare you give up on a boy who needed help, suggesting that he needs higher-level institutionalization and more aggressive medication, and setting him up to have had his schooling delayed. DO NOT SEEK HELP FROM ROGERS BEHAVIORAL.
I went here about 4 years ago and my experience was absolutely awful. The exposure therapy only made my anxiety worse. The therapist I had, Rachel, was extremely rude and very unskilled. She acted annoyed when I told… her about anything. This place should be shut down.
I highly recommend the OCD/ASD program here at Rogers Behavioral Health in Skokie. We have had an incredible experience here over the last three months. If you come, I encourage you to trust the process. The pace may… seem slow at times but there’s a method to the “organized chaos”. This program helped train me as much as it did my son. As a parent, come open to being “wrong” in that there may be things that feel natural to do as a parent (reassuring/accommodations) that you will need to stop doing. It gets harder before it gets better, but there’s so much support in the program. Get to know other parents… it’s the first time I’ve been surrounded by people who “get” what it’s like to have a child on the spectrum experiencing OCD/Anxiety. Soak up all the information through Parent University, through the handouts you receive, and through the modeling of how your behavioral specialist interacts with your child. I think any negative reviews come from people who quit the process before it was completed. It is difficult because our kids have to sit in uncertainty and anxiety, but the outcome and skills they learn are worth the short term discomfort. My son’s compulsions have literally vanished. I know that they will resurface in the future because that is the nature of OCD, but we now know how to deal with it and have a huge toolbox of tools to utilize. It’s bittersweet to be going home soon because it’s been such a life changing experience. I want to publicly acknowledge our amazing behavioral specialist, Caitlin, our therapist, Rachel, and staff members Diana and Mike for their unbelievable kindness and help. Thank you for giving us our son back. We are forever grateful. Anne Davidson
DONT SEND YOUR CHILD TO ROGERS, THEY DISCHARGE EARLY DUE TO INSURANCE, IF YOUR CHILD YELLS AT STAFF THEY WILL DISCHARGE IMMEDIATELY, THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO HANDLE KIDS WITH BEHAVIORAL ISSUES. 3 hours after my post now he… is off to the hospital
staff are alright, but i've been reading some of the reviews and i totally agree with the fact that there is too much time for kids there to be sitting alone with their thoughts during individual time. you can do… assessments and worksheets and such during individual time, but then you're alone for 20-30 minutes, and are not granted use of your phone as well by the way. i'm keen to the fact that HIPPA doesn't allow phones to be used in program, but i'd really suggest having less individual time in that case because without much distraction, my anxiety got unmanageable at times. i also felt whenever i was upset with certain policies i was dismissed and given a punishment almost immediately if i got upset. or the conversation would just be stopped because i was getting "aggressive" when i hadn't raised my voice at all. there were a few good staff such as jocelyn and maggie but i got to spend little time with them. also medication seems prescribed very early on when i feel as if there should've been tests done before they put me on medication/raised the doses. overall cbt wasn't very helpful for me, unless there was discussion from other patients there. it seemed like repeated material. overall, it's better than the last place i'd gone to, but honestly i'd recommend looking for another place to go, especially if you're in a really bad place mentally.
I agree 100% with DeeGee! This was exactly my sons experience. I can’t figure out how this place come so highly recommended, when this is how they operate. Also besides this, they seem to know nothing about Trauma, or… executive functioning. Expect perfect compliance or they immediately dismiss you, to move on to the next insured patient. Psychiatrist literally was yelling at my son. Also, I would be very cautious about trusting them to do exposure therapy, as this has been proven to be ineffective treatment for trauma especially in unskilled hands!
Our 9-year-old attended the PHP (MAASD) program for almost 2 months, and the IOP for almost 4 weeks. This place turned our lives around for our whole family. Even our dog is happier. This place is very trans-affirming,… and they really get autism, hyperactivity, meltdowns and everything else we needed them to understand. Oodles of gratitude for Dr. Cho, Caitlin, Julia, Blake, Ellen, Jocelyn, and everyone else who helped our child make such a dramatic life transition.
Please note that the PHP program is mostly self directed. Meaning, patients expected to sit by themselves in the room for half of the day and fill out forms and questioners for the first 2 weeks of the program. Followed… by an hour lunch, 30 min of group therapy and another self directed therapy session. They advertise it as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT at its core is a talk therapy. Rogers PHP program is not CBT, although they advertise it as such. The kids are left in the rooms by themselves and are expected to handwrite their own self assessments daily for 3 hours a day minimum. This information should be presented to the patients and their parents and it is not. I felt like it was my duty to inform people of that fact.
Our daughter was in the PHP program for OCD. She was in the program virtually. We found Danielle to be very good at communicating with the whole family, and Lauren was an excellent therapist. Lauren gave us updates on… our daughter's progress daily, and was very encouraging and enthusiastic in working with our daughter. We found the team to be genuinely caring and considerate of our concerns when making decisions affecting our daughter's care. Our daughter was only in the program while waiting for an opening in residency, so I cannot speak to completing the program here, but our experience was a very positive one.
Where to begin? The exposures here were insane and unethical. I went here in 2017 and I still cannot do exposure therapy again to this day. They made me eat off the floor, and when I refused, they informed me that they… made someone eat off of a toilet seat earlier that week. They made us call little girls fat and undeserving of food. They pinned me up against a wall when I refused an exposure. They made people touch poop and go weeks without washing their hands. They jump right into the horrifying, unethical exposures, not once easing you into it. You also spend an absurd amount of time alone in your room, and they cannot individualize the treatment. For example, I don’t get anxious thoughts often, more just feelings of panic. But their program relied on us having anxious thoughts, so I was forced to make them up, making my anxiety worse. The psychiatrists just prescribe medicine after running no dna test and barely even meeting with the patient for half an hour. I DO NOT recommend, there are better places in the area to go.
Not recommended by any means. Rogers put my child in the wrong program, which made things worse and upped his medication as a result to a dangerous level. Tried to give more medication, which I refused and was not… treated well for. My child is in a wonderful program now and is getting the help needed after the trauma at Rogers Behavioral Health. Without knowing the background of what happened at Rogers, the new Psychiatrist let us know that the dosage for medication that my child was put on from Dr. Cho was too high and causes damage. Psychiatrist ordered an electrocardiograph test. My child was left in a much worse state than when the program at Rogers began. Finally getting the help needed. They also show religious videos to patients, which should not be allowed. At Rogers, egos come before patient care and the damage done as a result should have ramifications.
The amazing team at Rogers has given my daughter and my family the tools and skills to fight OCD and win. Our 17 weeks in PHP and IOP were the hardest weeks of our lives but also the most influential. What we thought… would never be possible for our daughter now is! Dr. Cho and our therapy team, specifically Elyse and Mary, supported us every step of the way in embracing Exposure Response Therapy. They were methodical and careful as to how much and how often they introduced new exposures. Parent University provided me and my husband knowledge and support on subjects we really knew very little about. I am forever grateful for the work they do to help those with OCD thrive.
Update: To 'Response from the owner', Please take my email address off your mailing list. ******** Absolutely agree with Brittany's review. DO NOT go there for anything trauma related. The Dr. doesnot listen, insists to… implement wrong treatment, that we have to undo her treatment after leaving there. I wish I could give it a negative star.
I'm writing the review that I wish I could've read before sending my daughter to Rogers. We learned how awful this place was the hard way, but if you trust me, you won't have to. I wouldn't recommend this place even if… I was given a million dollars. Dr. Cho is the most unimaginative, untrustworthy, and unknowledgeable psychiatrist I have ever had my child see. She is discharging from their FOCUS program soon and we are more than ready to get out of this place. Cho's prescribed medications didn't work and caused terrible side effects to my daughter. We brought this up to her and she refused to change the medication or the dosage. Her approach to therapy is literally the exact same for every patient. Her idea of "exposure therapy" is to put children in stressful, anxiety-provoking, and sometimes dangerous situations without supervision or guidance. My daughter says that one of her peers now has literal life-impacting PTSD thanks to Dr. Cho's disasterous handling of his case, which was only diagnosed by a separate and far more qualified psychiatrist. FIND A DIFFERENT TREATMENT CENTER. It will save you so much pain not to go here.
I was very disappointed with Rogers. They denied us and recommended something totally off base. If the intake assessment had listened this recommendation would never have happenned. We suspect that they seek only the… acute cases. I would try compass in northbrook as a better option. Even the enviroment is more welcoming.
I love this place ! It saved our lives. Don’t go anywhere else. Amazing staff that not only care about their patients but understand how to help.
Rogers has been wonderful!! The care was absolutely top notch and made a remarkable difference in my daughter's well being. A big thank you to Ben for his professionalism and supportive attention.
