Sunset Counseling Services – Tooele

I have been a client at Sunset Counseling for a few years and would strongly recommend their services. Evan has been great in helping me manage depression, anxiety, and BPD, and I have seen meaningful improvement.… Tamara works with my children and provides them with valuable coping skills. The staff is compassionate and professional, and I consistently feel comfortable during visits.

I would not recommend receiving therapy here. Evan...whatever. focused too much on the same subject every time I went in to see him and we never progressed into DBT or anything other than my personal life events. He… believed that being trans and non binary/ being gay was something that needed "fixing". I did not like how my therapy progressed with him and was disappointed in his practices.

I have been seeing Heidi longer than a year. She has slowly brought me out of my depression and anxiety as I fight through it. I was in a very dark state of mind after a meltdown & finding out that I’ve been carrying 30… years of suppressed anger, pain & sadness from childhood trauma. Heidi’s work empowered me to find my own identity and voice. I even included her voice as one of my inner voices to fight off paralyzing self doubts. Her education, knowledge, genuine kindness & authenticity will continue to empower me through my life’s struggles. She is such a skilled listener and a cheerleader to my emotional successes! She is truly an answer to my prayers. I look forward to continue discovering my potential with her help. Thank you Heidi for not making me feel that I’m alone and that I have a place in this world.

So I am sure this review will be removed, as it seems to be a common experience with this company. But I absolutely did not have a good experience with Mike. He pushed his religious beliefs, made inappropriate comments,… spoke about how great HE is, and would completely gloss over my concerns (presumably because it made him uncomfortable as he literally would turn his whole body when my issues came up.) It seemed he had his own agenda. Not an effective therapist at all. But don't try to tell him that, he will just make it seem like there is something wrong with you, that you are messed up and he is the greatest thing that his God created. Also interesting to note that the positive reviews on Mike that are here come from reviewers who only review other companies in Utah County or the Salt Lake area. How come this is the only company in Toole they reviewed, but review many others in Orem and Lehi? Almost as though they live out there but travel over an hour just for therapy services. Very interesting 🙄

I have been seeing Mike for a year and a half, usually once a month to twice a month. He helped move me from the darkest place in my life to the most fulfilling life I've ever had. I've found purpose again and am no… longer afraid of the future. For those of you that are LDS, he is as in touch with the Spirit as any man I have ever met and will sometimes quote scripture to me in the sessions, which helps me to feel hope and trust in my Savior more. A great therapist and a better man.

My 9-year-old daughter was feeling very depressed and anxious, and was missing a lot of school, but after we started with Sunset Counseling she has really improved! She has stopped begging us to stay home from school,… her relationships at school and home have improved, and so have her grades! Their office has been a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend!

Mike helped me work through stuff that previous therapists couldn't. I can't recommend him enough.

I am a 5th grade teacher in TCSD and have had the opportunity to work with Mike on 3 separate occasions as he has helped various students in my classroom who deal with varying issues. Mike is kind, patient, gentle,… caring, and very understanding. He is great with kids, is very helpful to me as a teacher, and I would recommend him to other parents or teachers who have kids struggling right now! Thanks Mike for your services!

I was having issues with my son and his behavior with many different things. I found sunset and mike helped us out. We both were struggling and mike had such great ways to help and have us focus and do things together… and bond better. Mike also helped me calm down and speak to my son instead of over stress and feeling like I don’t know what I’m doing. He always insured me I was a wonderful mother mike calmed me down and I have been calm ever since and it’s been so much better and my son has been on a great behavior streak at school and has such a big heart and loves his family so much! Im so glad that we had mikes help I do and still do recommend mike here. He is more then 5 stars.

Working with Mike has changed my outlook on myself and my marriage. I am incredibly grateful that I took a chance with meeting with him. My marriage and my overall happiness has increased exponentially! There are people… in this life that are meant to be in their position and Mike is one of them. I reccomend him to everyone!

Seeing Mike was the best thing we could have done as a couple & blended family! He was able to help us learn to communicate better & face anything as a couple. Our relationship & family has been strengthened so much… because of him. I highly reccomend seeing Mike for issues in your relationship/family or just for great relationship maintenance from time to time!
