How Much Does Treatment at Royal Cornhill Hospital Cost?
Royal Cornhill Hospital is a general psychiatric hospital rather than a dedicated addiction residential or detox programme, so the market figures for addiction treatment in the Aberdeen area (residential care typically runs from around £10,000 to £30,000 a month privately) are included here as broader context rather than a like-for-like guide to what this hospital provides.
As an NHS Grampian hospital, treatment here may be available at no direct cost to residents through the NHS, with access usually depending on referral and residency. If a referral is being considered, ask how the referral pathway works and what any related addiction support would involve.

Royal Cornhill Hospital Reviews
Anyone who has been treated at Royal Cornhill Hospital, or supported a relative through a stay there, is welcome to share their experience to help other families understand what an admission involves.
Because this is an NHS hospital, it operates under NHS Grampian’s own governance and inspection by Healthcare Improvement Scotland rather than a separate private accreditation scheme. A helpful question to ask when considering a referral is how the assessment and admission process works and what happens once inpatient care ends.
Ive been totally amazed by the quality and delicious food supplied by the team in cornhill hospital kitchens a really big thumbs up from an old forces veteran keep up the GREAT WORK
I've been seeing Dr Yasmine Youssef, Specialty Doctor at Royal Cornhill Hospital, over the past year and I can't speak highly enough of her. She is a real credit to her profession. From the very first appointment she… was easy to talk to, and I never once felt like just another patient on a conveyor belt. She took the time to properly listen and understand what was going on, rather than rushing to a label or reaching straight for medication. It felt like she was interested in me as a person, not just my symptoms. She explained things clearly, involved me in decisions about any care or support proposed, and never made me feel judged. The whole process was clear, check-ins were well organised, and her professionalism throughout was excellent. Overall exceptional experience, many thanks again.
cancelled my appointment without telling me and then told me to wait another 3 months ( 6 in total ) for a new appointment. Seriously poor service considering i am diagnosed with serious mental health conditions and not… coping. I hate this place.
I cant cant say im very happy about my interactions and visits to this place over the years some of the staff are pretty decent people however doing a hard job for peanuts... I could say a lot of horrible things but… hopefully they will learn the errors of their ways...
Clean hospital with friendly staff. Some errors on legal procedures of detention but a five star hotel compared to South African Mental Health Care Facilities. Doctor Cassidy has helped me in time to accept my diagnosis… and I am successfully functioning through the medication prescribed. I attach an artwork of my breakdown that I made.
My son has been in Loriston Ward for over 1 year now, I can't thank kelsie and her team enough for the support ,care they have given my son. They have positively turned my sons life around!!! Kelsie and her team have… gone above and beyond for my son. They are all pushed to their limits low staffing ect but they still manage to give the care and compassion thats needed. My son was seriously ill with his mental health when first addmited their care patience compassion and understanding has got my son where he is today!!! If I could of given more than 5 stars I definitely would. I will be forever indebted to Cornhill Loriston ward. Thank you kelsie/ team for everything you guys have done for my son. Many many thanks Laura Leask. Xxx
They will never respond to an email, or answer a call Their numbers will claim to be manned during working hours, but the same message says call a new number during working hours (and this loops) They will respond in 1… second if you’re angry or have symptoms becoming beyond control due to their neglect But any time you reach out normally, you wait 3 months for a response to an email (I’m still waiting) - This entire setup grooms people into instability and they leverage that, using mentally ill people’s stress as an excuse to gaslight, play victim, and talk how BUSY they are Something they will not say when you contact them normally, ghost mode then But if you say your piece in anger about how they neglect you, they’ll immediately after months of silence will be in action mode - You get offered pills but zero support if you’re on them You get zero aid researching these pills and zero communication if you have questions, concerns or side effects - It’s good to know that only violent people get a response or basic compassion.
Not an organisation that I bother with anymore. Staff do not care whatsoever and like to give you advice that sounds like it was written by ChatGPT. Kevin is a great therapist so this doesn’t apply to him but, can’t say… the same for the rest.
Good place to recover , good teams , and good food 💜
My stay on Corgarth ward could not have been better! My room was comfortable and spotless - shout out to the cleaners. The food was great - shout out to everyone in the kitchen. The nursing staff and the psychiatrist… were all so kind and caring and that is the most needed and curative thing of all. My last psychiatrist gently how my experience had been and nearly fell off his chair when I replied 'Wonderful'. Many, many thanks.
Really enjoyed my stay here, clean sheets, clean rooms. Only getting a two star because of constant screaming of pain from other guest and the breakfast absolutely shocking. Will not be staying again!
Rude gender clinic receptionist.
They almost killed me in this hospital! I got beaten 3 times there by staff members! I am still traumatised by it!
This hospital needs a lot more support than it gets. The building needs modernising and the phone lines need more support. You’re dealing with a vulnerable group of people and they need to feel comforted and need to be… able to reach people when they can. There needs to be more digital interaction such as an app for requests and for appointment reminders and cancellations to be made easy so that they can be freed up for other people. The technology in this hospital resembles 1980s Kentucky and it’s a disgrace. I think nhs Grampian is notorious for this all round. The hospital staff need to remember that people there are ill whether it’s physically or mentally and need the same level of care at ARI or RACH. Saying that they can get their own tea or coffee and their own meals and own meds is just backwards. They’re needing cared for that’s why they’re there. I highly doubt the excuse of “it will enable their condition” is valid. A lot of nurses leaving this hospital did not have a good experience working there with the lack of support and the attitudes of some staff. They all need to get on the same page and stop treating the patients here like ticket numbers. Sometimes there are no doctors on wards for hours and prescriptions for conditions like pain, UTIs and infections leave people suffering for too long. Patients need to be able to chat about things when needed and not just a quick 10 min consult with a doctor once a week. It’s a very terrifying and lonely experience being in there and the lack of engagement is the main cause. Trust is a two way thing and I don’t think the staff do enough to earn the trust of patients.
I think mental health training is non existent with this phone line. The lady who operates the phone line is very rude considering I was calling in to adjust an appointment I didn’t make and inform them I have had HIV… and AIDS medication delivered to my house when I suffer with neither of these illnesses. Terrible approach to mental health and personally; phoning up enhances my anxiety. Don’t really think that’s what a mental health ward is there for. 08/10/2025 I would rather not wake up than deal with this place. The staff are absolutely awful on the phoneline and the doctors just blast me with benzos and anti pschotics and diazapam and leave me to it. Again today its the same usual woman operating the phone line, she never listens has no compassion for anyone and is in the wrong job. I hate talking to her. I said today the peterhead team is closed on a wednesday, so she asked for their phone number to transfer me through to a team id just said was closed. It resulted in me getting extremely angry.
Experiences range from atrocious to actually very good. It’s unfortunate that the very good experiences are about 10% and the atrocious has ended in me nearly dead so I really could not justify giving more than one… star. Not fun to be reliant on a place where you never know what you’re going to get in an already vulnerable suicidal state and the 90% really put you off trying for the 10% especially when the bad experiences come one after another.
This ward is awfull they don't care about you you get out then they take you back don't say why oh there's an appointment microwave food I've been in myself so I know git like it is
Dr Olufemi Adebajo has the same integrity as a slug, and is a shill and a liar! If I could give the mental health services in Aberdeen less than 1star then I would! Maybe unrelated, but I've noticed the comments on his… YouTube video have been disabled, I would love to know what they say.
If I could give zero stars I would. The majority of the staff who have worked in this hospital consistently re-traumatise patients. I was under their care for over two decades and seen many, many different types of… staff. Only a handful actually cared. Was an inpatient 11/12 times over the years. In fact one psychologist in particular Adeline Graham was my saving grace. The rest of them don’t like woman advocating for themselves. Showing emotion. Even though they teach you in psychotherapy to be angry and want you to show all emotion. But only in their terms. I had a lovely social worker who oversaw my weekly support from a private company. As I chose to discharge myself over the phone at 5.30am on a Saturday morning during a crisis a couple of years ago. By the next week my case had been closed, they weren’t interested. I was wrongly diagnosed with EUPD many years ago. When my previously mentioned psychologist believed my issues stemmed from childhood trauma. EUPD/BPD is a diagnosis of exclusion. Dr Winning wrote in my notes that I no longer had EUPD. But while I was in the ward for 3 days I had EUPD traits. This isn’t factual according to the ICD 10 or the DSM a person cannot have a couple of traits. The diagnosis is highly controversial anyway, and gives professionals an excuse to off roll individuals away from this “care” setting. The diagnosis will stay on your notes forever, and will determine how you are treated by any professional who can access your medical records. Now a fairly new social worker has come along and is trying to remove the very small 4 hours of support I get a week. There’s no point in complaining to anyone as they all band together. They have a whole system standing for them. I live a quiet life, have physical disabilities, don’t leave the house unless I have a medical appointment. I don’t bother anyone. I keep my family and myself safe and we don’t cause anyone bother. Stay as far away from this hospital as you can because the majority of the staff don’t have time to spend with patients. People have managed to take their own lives whilst the staff have been in the office.
Place is a shambles. Don’t get back to you. Don’t help you in time of need unless you hurt someone then you’ll get arrested and get sent to jail. Been waiting AGES for my ADHD assessment and to get medicated for it. Got… told to keep self medicating for it till I get tablets, lost my job etc. due to the incompetence of these high paid people. Wouldn’t want to think what they do to the people inside Cornhill if they do this to the people outside the hospital.
Don’t help been in 6 times only a few staff were caring.
I was in just before covid and though they tried to push me to go home and hospital wasn't for me now 4 yrs down the line they were right these nurses have a lot to do and now appreciate every one of them sorry guys if… I was a pest but see the light now thanks to yous heart ❤️ 💙 💜 💖 💗
They keep bringing me here and the fire alarms keep going off and hurting my ears and they expect me to sleep on an uncomfortable single bed here I want to go home and the food not great
