About Anasazi Foundation – Mesa

Anasazi Foundation has its offices at 1424 South Stapley Drive in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona, while its treatment itself happens outdoors on trail in the Arizona wilderness. It is a nonprofit residential behavioral health program built around extended wilderness stays instead of a building-based campus.

Separate programs serve boys and girls aged 12 to 17 and adults 18 and older who face depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma, family conflict or screen overuse, with parents drawn into the work. The Arizona Department of Health Services licenses Anasazi as a behavioral health residential facility for adults and children. The foundation was established in 1988.

Treatment Services at Anasazi Foundation

Participants spend a minimum of 49 days walking in small groups called bands, guided by trail staff and therapists. Young adults have weekly individual and group therapy, and the program uses dialectical behavior therapy and an emotion-focused model of family therapy. Parents take part through weekly family sessions, a one-day workshop and a final shared stay on the trail.

Psychological and psychoeducational testing can be arranged with outside licensed psychologists, and a physician completes an admission physical. When the wilderness phase ends, families receive seven weeks of coaching, and the Alumni Services team keeps in contact for a year of follow-up.

How Much Does Treatment at Anasazi Foundation Cost?

Paying privately for residential treatment in Arizona tends to cost $6,000 to $25,000 a month, a typical state figure and not Anasazi’s price or a quote. Anasazi charges a daily rate whose amount was not shown on its fees page; the foundation says the rate covers program materials, individual and group therapy, parent coaching and a year of alumni services.

A separate one-time fee covers the initial assessment, educational credits and outdoor gear, the foundation says. Accommodation and meals on trail are most likely part of the daily rate, an expectation Anasazi did not state. EMDR, medication and lab work may carry separate charges or may not be available. Call Anasazi Foundation to confirm what the fee covers and to get a figure for your own stay for your family’s needs. Families pay directly, with financing and need-based scholarships available.

Anasazi Foundation Reviews

Families comparing a residential program for adolescents usually find plenty of promises and very little lived detail. If you know Anasazi Foundation first hand, that knowledge is worth recording here. Billed as a typical stay of 28-day wilderness therapy programs (home page), it invites the obvious question of whether that was true.

Anyone with direct experience can review it: former residents, parents and guardians and school staff, social workers and probation officers. Cover what the daily routine involved if you can, along with whether both diagnoses got attention and whether family sessions happened as described. A few honest sentences are more use than a page of generalities.
