Changes Counseling and – Sandy Reviews and Ratings
What is Changes Counseling and like for patients? Reviews in this section, from RehabSeekers and from around the web, describe the program in the words of patients and families who know it.
Even the judge was in agreement that the recommended services were extreme, unnecessary, and overpriced, blatant cash grab I would recommend therapy through ethical assessments instead. 0/10 for pricing and… recommendations, usually the people at the front desk are very nice tho. Changes counseling tried to recommend 3 drug tests a month that wouldn’t test for weed?? For $25 each!? Ridiculous
⭐ 1/5 — Changes Counseling My experience with Changes Counseling was frustrating due to repeated disorganization, poor communication, and the way concerns were handled. From the beginning, they were transitioning… systems and it took an excessive amount of time to get me started. Those organizational issues continued throughout the program. One of the biggest issues involved classes. On multiple occasions, multiple Changes staff members allowed me to check in and attend classes. Later, I was told they didn’t know why I had been allowed into them and that unless I paid, I wouldn’t receive credit and could be marked non-compliant. I wasn’t trying to get anything for free—I followed the process their own staff repeatedly allowed, then was expected to bear the consequences of their internal mistake. There were also repeated recordkeeping issues with Jeff. At times, he was one or two lessons behind my actual progress and would say work hadn’t been completed or received, only to later discover that it had been completed or was already in his possession. In a program where records can affect someone’s compliance, that is concerning. My interactions with Director Chris, Jeff, and Angela also showed a pattern I experienced as dismissive, defensive, argumentative, and at times domineering. When I questioned inconsistencies or tried to establish the facts, I sometimes felt the issue was projected back onto me rather than addressed. With the class issue, for example, my concern was characterized as me trying to get something for free instead of addressing why multiple staff members had allowed it to happen. People in court-related programs are still people. Asking questions or advocating for yourself shouldn’t result in being treated as difficult or as the problem. My issue isn’t with having to complete the program or pay legitimate fees. It’s with the disorganization, inconsistent records, poor communication, and treatment I experienced when raising legitimate concerns. 1/5. I would not recommend Changes Counseling based on my experience. UPDATE — Response to Changes Counseling: Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, this response reinforces the concern expressed in my review. Rather than addressing the specific issues regarding professionalism and conduct, Changes Counseling has chosen to characterize those concerns as “misunderstandings,” “unintended offenses,” and “disagreements,” while highlighting its relicensing score and stating that I was given “several breaks.” None of those points address the conduct described in my review. To be clear, this is not about hard feelings, personal disagreements, or whether Changes Counseling believes it “did its best.” It is about the standard of professionalism clients should reasonably expect from a counseling provider and its employees. I also want to clarify that I completed my requirements and finished the program on my own accord. I am not seeking reconciliation, an apology, or reassurance that there are “no hard feelings.” I posted this review to document my experience publicly so that prospective clients can consider it and make their own informed judgment. I stand by my review
To start this off let me be clear the therapists themselves are amazing and super kind and the actual courses itself aren’t super hard and they are slow pace and easy to do. The reason for my rating is based on the… communication with the changes counseling, when i was trying to get my insurance approved to be used it took their billing department 3 weeks almost a month to hear back and get things going which is super frustrating if you’re trying to complete your courses in a timely manner and don’t just have the extra funds to pay out of pocket. Another thing was towards the end of my courses I thought all my payments were up to date and good to go but due to their staffing and new employees on shift they had been mis charging me which caused me to owe money, it’s completely fine if i had to pay out of pocket if i was told upfront but it’s the fact i paid for 3 classes and had at least 8 phone calls in between with changes before they ever wanted to inform me i had outstanding payments. The communication is very much all over the place and does need fixing not to mention there were two groups of mine scheduled and i had hopped onto the class and there’s no therapist and i would have to call to get told class was cancelled due to staffing reasons if you guys are charging $60 each no show on class then you guys should also have the capability to call and say classes have been cancelled. overall my experience was okay just beware on the communication.
Very friendly and professional, cost effective and capable. They take the time to hear you out about the challenges and accomplishments in your life so they can give you a treatment plan that is relevant to where you… are at in life.
The staff of changing counseling is the best…I had some things that I had to do in my life for circumstance, and they made it as painless as possible and an enjoyable experience. Chris and Lincoln in specific being… great! Would recommend these guys to any one for any counseling and class environment needs! BRAVO
I would definitely not recommend going through them. They are two faced and just money hungry. I would definitely try other places. There's way better options.I don't even understand how this place is in business !!!
Money grab judge even said they gave me too much treatment
I would not recommend. The staff is friendly, but they use predatory and deceptive tactics to get business. I pointed out 3 easily variable mistakes they made, and they refused to correct or even acknowledge them. Save… yourself the hassle and go elsewhere.
Came out of my way to help my girlfriend go and complete intake for a class that they didn’t prepare and made too difficult ending up in her being disconnected from the class 5 hours into the 6 hour class and ended up… doing community service. Just needed a place that would take our insurance and help with a charge and they could not help do that very disappointed after wasting my time here. Why were we disconnected from the class after not being able to answer some questions? Very frustrating
Records of accomplished treatment takes a month or two to reach your PO. That time extends your probation. Because of this, I could have been released two months earlier
Awful place. Discriminatory.
The staff, therapists and owner are all very nice. They are friendly people to be around after a mistake was made in your life. They are helpful and always answer questions. I highly recommend. The prices are affordable… and they are fair in recommending treatment.
Stay away from these guys at all cost!! I had a evaluation on 10/31/2024 we are now at 1/13/25 and I still have yet to get what their “recommendations” are they keep claiming they are waiting for the director to sign… off on it but when asked to speak with said director he has always just stepped out this place is definitely the worst
A fabulous place to get help, especially if you have been court ordered to do some sort of treatment. They have a great team to help you get through the classes and treatment and they make sure you have everything you… need once things are completed to show the court/judge you have complied. They really care about you, prices are fair and reasonable, and it doesn't appear they are trying to get rich off of you and the problems you are facing.
Hello my name is Travis Jordan I didn't catch the front desk ladies name but the blonde one was very nice professional and courteous in my distressed situation. She went out of her way and made Thourough examination on… my test.
The director Chris is a very respectful caring man. This man values his clients sobriety he's not just there for the money he will sit and talk to you about life and you really genuinely cares. I met this man and he… touched my heart to be a better person like him.
Cris did a standing job helping me out! I am very happy about that!
Changes Counseling is the second therapy center in Salt Lake valley that I attended. I liked changes counseling. They were awesome to me. The office staff, management and therapists were friendly experienced. They… helped me get onto positive life changes in my life and then push me to being responsible and happy. The classes worked around both my jobs and I graduated recently. I recommend them highly; especially if you need to get things done and be a better person. They'll be patient with you and they'll help you in any way they can. Thanks again, CAM
Thank you to changes counseling for having the most affordable prices around town! Your classes have helped me grow into the person I have always wanted to be. they have been so patient and understanding with me… throughout my good days and bad ones, helping me learn and change for the better! I appreciate this establishment more than words can explain. THANK YOU!!!
the receptionist wasn’t very friendly I got really bad anxiety and went somewhere else
As a medical paralegal I spent hours searching for the best possible provider to help a family in need. These providers are caring, thorough, transparent. Top recommendation.
Do not come here they’re money hungry and rip people off and will use whatever they can against you in your courts if you don’t do what they say. Between the director and the ladie who does the evaluations are… unprofessional and would advise anyone trying to get on the right path to stay away from this place. Even lawyers know about this place and what they do. Look at the other bad reviews all pretty much saying the same thing about this company and the owner. weird when the same thing keeps reoccurring and all the owner does is make excuses unprofessional
These guys are absolutely the best option for court ordered treatment services. These guys are a great help when you find yourself in trouble! I don't know how they do it but their services are inexpensive compared to… the same services offered from other companies, but the quality of service is just so much better than places of the same price. They have a clean office, caring staff, and experienced therapists. As long as you participate and take the treatment seriously, they'll work with you the best they can to keep you moving through treatment and avoiding court troubles. I've been through court ordered treatment before, and it just felt like a scam and I wasn't getting the help I needed. The other companies had dirty and disorganized offices, employees and staff that were just clocking in for a paycheck without any care for the work or people they were supposed to be helping. These guys just aren't the same, and are worlds better than any of the other options that offer the same services. Thank you Changes for helping me get my life straight when it seemed like chaos was going to take over!!!!
Takes advantage of people who need help and charges you as much money as they can get out of you even if you don’t need the treatment they recommend. DO NOT GO HERE. there are much better places like ARS. I hope this… place goes out of business.
Writing this under an anonymous name. Changes counseling is unprofessional in some aspects. They do not know any forms of communication within each other, and with questions regarding anything - they always tell you… something different. When you bring up any of the past conversations you’ve had, all they have to say is “Well I don’t know who you talk to” with a snarky attitude. With my experience there (forced by court), they tell you one thing but then you get a call or message saying the opposite. It seems like it’s very unorganized and the employees there just have their own way of doing things rather than working together. It’s tiring having to call constantly trying to get the most accurate information but then it getting rebutted by another employee.
Changes Counseling has honestly saved my life. Hard truth, but I’d be dead or in jail if it wasn’t for this establishment. Lincoln is an incredible therapist and I’m lucky to be able to go when I can. Been going here on… and off for years now and the staff couldn’t be doing a better job. They take the time to work with you where they can and never judge. I don’t care who knows I’m in therapy, get in for yourself! It’s an incredibly productive time and life saving. The classes they offer are also amazing I recommend here to anyone. You can tell everyone truly cares that you get better.
Everyone I have worked with has been great but big shout out to Mr Lincoln! He truthfully is the greatest therapist out there super caring, understanding, and fun. He makes therapy fun but serious he connects with you… as a person not as a client. I will most likely be using him after treatment as well great guy and great facility!
