Therapy is supposed to help, but seeing Divet made my life infinitely worse. I was too traumatized to speak during my sessions, so I made the mistake of letting my mother do the talking, and Divet completely ignored my… perspective. When I tried to advocate for myself and told her that I experience every single symptom of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), she didn't care at all. She completely brushed off my actual cries for help and instead stayed hyper-focused on diagnosing me with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) simply because my mom and I disagree politically.Now, every time my mother talks about how amazing Trump is and I express how bad and evil I think he is, she slaps the ODD label in my face. I had to leave because Divet refused to take my actual mental health concerns seriously. To make matters worse, my mom brought up a history of self-harm to the therapist that wasn't even recent. The scars where healed.Despite knowing my mother is abusive, Divet gave her a "safety plan"which my mom immediately weaponized. That exact same night, I went home and was crying over yellow walls and how much I hate them and how I wish they where pink.My mom told me if I didn't shut up, she was going to call 911. She then lied to the authorities, claiming I was drowning myself, which was completely false. I ended up being sent to the psych ward not because I was actually hurting myself, but simply because I was crying and my mom wanted to control me. Divet ignored my real symptoms and empowered an abusive parent with a safety plan that was completely unnecessary. Do not go to this therapist if you want to be heard or kept safe they will just give your abuser more tools to control you.
