Jasper Mountain – Springfield Reviews
Reviews are where patients and families describe Jasper Mountain in their own terms: the welcome at admission, the counseling, the planning for life after treatment.
Reading them is a sensible step before calling the Springfield facility. Writing one, if you have been treated there, helps the families who come next.
This place is abusive. My brother was beaten, abused, sexually assaulted in secret. Nobody knew and he couldn’t tell anyone. This place is demonic. The people who run it are evil and sick. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE… I BEG YOU. As now a grown adult .. what happened to him when he was younger he is still dealing with that trauma. I pray everyone who participated in this gets what they deserve in the worst way. Worst place in the world.
This place has some wonderful caring teaching staff. Their record keeping, transfer techniques, transparency all are terribly lacking in professionalism and are inadequate in many ways.
This is a wonderful place it has helped my son so much was hard at frist to except he needed this kind of care staff are great his therapist is amazing
Feels like a prison, staff definitely need better training, I was there when I was younger and they have alarms on the beds during nighttime to assure no one leaves their room, like are you trying to make the kids… scared?! Definitely not recommended. 😡👎
My son is what I call a "Covid child" — he spent over two years in lockdown during his most formative years, missing out on critical social interaction with peers his own age. As a result, he developed significant… behavior challenges in school, and we struggled to find anyone who truly understood how to help him. The Safe Center has been the only place that has made a real difference for our family. The support, structure, and accountability they provide is nothing short of incredible. His teacher and Jesse and therapist Josh have been absolutely wonderful — patient, consistent, and genuinely invested in his growth. Even on hard days (like when he's still working through meltdowns), they hold him accountable with kindness and help him learn to regulate himself. The communication with our family has also been exceptional. They keep us informed and in sync, which makes it so much easier to reinforce progress at home — especially during breaks when consistency matters most. We are so grateful for this program and for the incredible people who show up every day for kids like our son. You are making a lasting difference. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Both of my little brothers spent time here. I had a crisis stay at one point. I distinctly remember one time that I was in class, drawing cryptic and sad drawings. I was pulled out, and asked why I was so sad. I said I… didn't want to talk about it, and walked back to my desk. Then almost immediately, a red haired woman (I think her name was Jessie) grabbed me by both my hair and my arm, and dragged me outside to put me in a restraint. Not once was I aggressive. Not until she literally physically harmed me. One of my most traumatic memories. And I'm pretty sure she was a director of the program. You cannot speak AT ALL without raising your hand, even for simple questions. My little brother was basically starved, and when he came back home he was stick skinny and said he didn't eat while he was there because of crippling fear. The bed alarms go off with a voice if your blanket even falls off of your bed, then you have staff rushing in to see what you were doing, usually waking you up in the process. And oftentimes, you would get in trouble for asking to use the restroom at night. This program is ABUSIVE and should not exist. I'm so happy that some people have had positive experiences, but I've heard more horror stories than success stories. Not only that, but they entertained the lies of my narcissistic mother, which resulted in both of my brothers being abused by her even more. If I could give zero stars I would.
I just discharged and when I first got to safe center I thought it was like prison I absolutely hated it but when I got to know people they were kind and I got super emotional after I left when I see all these reviews… of people saying "oh they hurt me in containment holds" u realize you are hurting them when u resist when I was there I saw staff with bruises, black eyes, sweating when all I got was uncomfortable feelings it's not bad and if parents see this I recommend this place their cook is so nice she makes delicious food you change your sheets every Saturday and u can earn money and buy stuff at store I want to shout out the staff for supporting me at difficult times 😊
I still have ptsd from one staff member there and her name is karrie I had multiple pannick attacks where I felt so scared that I couldn't move and the food was so bad you would think that it's prison they would put you… in holds as if your in WWE when you say no as if the words no are unsafe you shouldn't send your kids here it shouldn't be called safe center it should be trauma center
I go by Chris now but my name was Arielle madden at this facility, I suffered long term abuse at the hands of people who were supposed to care for me. Due to my disability I have extreme memory gaps from trauma so I am… unable to speak of all of my experiences here but I will try. These staff have no compassion towards those who are trying their best to just survive in this place. We were given points based on how we acted, the system was very easy to screw over however, for example I got points for “self-esteem” I could literally just say “I love myself” and get points for the next day without having to mean it. I was undiagnosed with POTS, staying here every day they make you run laps around a giant field for rewards. But because of my disability i was unable to run most of the time and I would try and take a break but other staff would shame me for not being able to run anymore. The Calls are monitored so they make sure that you are only saying good stuff about safe center. Therapy sessions were just shaming me for past actions and not helping me find other ways to prevent that behavior or cope with my emotions. As someone with religious trauma the rookie/champion board further fueled my fear of being a bad person, because of the punishments they set in place if you were bad, you would become isolated, unable to do any activities, interact with kids or adults. I have trauma with male authoritive figures, there was a staff here that drove a motorcycle to safe center, like an abuser in my life So I was Already afraid of him because of ptsd. But one time this particular staff member had told me that It was break time was over and I was still talking and drawing (im fully deaf in one ear) then he raised his voice which was reasonable, I told him that I didn’t hear him and he accused me of ignoring him. I hated whenever that staff would work I would always dissociate for the entire day because I was terrified of him. I know I have more serious experiences than these but like I said, im not able to recall most of these memories because of how traumatic my time was here.
I was a resident at Jasper Mountain from age 7 to 8 (21 years ago) and I wanted to share my perspective as an adult looking back. The structured environment taught me important life skills like manners, responsibility,… and following rules through daily chores and working with animals including horses and llamas. I particularly remember Molly the llama,(I called her Polly Molly) Champ the horse, and Willy the miniature horse. Oh, there were also some snack feisty peacocks. We would run track or walk the mile to get a better breakfast (hot breakfast and not a bowl of cereal). This helped me understand the reward of working hard, and exercising. Despite the extremely strict environment where most staff members were not particularly compassionate (I recall Mat, a staff member who was very protective of his headphones due to ear wax concerns but was generally he was a cool guy), and a man who I don’t remember the name, he coached me in flag football. The structure ultimately helped me develop discipline that has served me well in adulthood. However, the use of physical restraints and holds was traumatic and caused lasting anxiety in my peers. I experienced this once when I deliberately got into trouble out of curiosity and it caused me to panic. Holds are not fun, I repeat, not fun. While my experience included both positive and negative elements, I’m grateful for what I learned there about responsibility and structure, and as an adult I can appreciate how these skills have helped me even though some aspects were difficult at the time. This reflects my personal experience from over 20 years ago, and programs may have evolved since then, but overall I’m very thankful for the growth and manners I gained during my stay. Oh, Christmas here rocked. I still have photos of my time with Santa and opening up my gifts. Thank you JMC, you were more of a family than mine ever was.
I've been to this facility many times. It is a true haven for the children in their care. Realizing that many of the children in residence exhibit fairly serious emotional and behavioral issues, I have to commend the… staff for their ability to handle some very difficult situations, with restraint, respect and affection for the kids.
I dont know what its like now, but after the abuse a faced by everyone and how this place is structured. There is no redeeming the safe center. Im sad im not able to sue for the damages brought upon me by this… establishment but i want to say. Never send you children here, they will resent you for it. Note: an experience i had is whenever i had a meltdown they brought you outside( it was cold year round because of the area ) and they put you in a doorway with spiders and cobwebs standing in front of you. If you ever tried to push past them they kicked your legs. This lasts a very long time.
As a parent who accepted help from Jasper Mountain Safe Center in 2020... this place is nothing as described on their website. I removed my child after communication with the staff just felt off, now years later, my… child is doing amazing and finally processing traumas in a healthy way. I'm so glad I removed my child from this program. Sadly, part of the trauma she has been processing occurred at Jasper Mountain. My child has described emotional, verbal and physical abuse that occurred both to themselves and that they witnessed other children experiencing. This place claims they are trauma focused, but takes the approach of controlling behavior rather than understanding the cause of the behavior and adapting the approach so the child can better tolerate their expectations. Controlling behavior responses without addressing the cause only causes further harm. I wanted my child to understand their emotional responses and learn to express their needs in other, more effective ways...I did not want my child to receive proffesional guidance on how to bottle up their emotions. Bottle up the fear and shame that their staff were causing on a daily basis. I was able to locate much more helpful support in our community from other sources. Moms and dad's, if you are reading this I am sure you are going through a very challenging time, I understand and you have my very deep sympathy. But, I would like to share my experience in hopes that others do not have to repeat my mistakes. This program compounded my child's trauma and damaged the trust we had. There are other options that do genuinely help. Just keep holding on. Be the calm on their storm and seek as much community support as possible for both yourself and your child. Jasper Mountain is not the answer you are looking for. Jasper Mountain staff. I am not looking for you to respond to this review. I did not write this for you, and there is nothing you need to resolve with me. It is simply a warning for other parents experiencing challenges looking for a miracle. I do not need your dismissive, defensive responses. I read your response to others you have harmed and you should be ashamed of yourselves.
It was alright I was there 2017
I had to go there as a kid and I still have trauma from them I was tackled and held down I was 13 if it were up to me they'd be shut down. Also when I first got there I had to strip because I had self harm issues, I was… not allowed to play outside talk to any other kid who couldn't play I still have panic attacks when driving by jasper mountain to the point my partner has to drive. Never send your kid here it's not safe for the kids
I don't know if anyone remembers me but I was there a long long time. my favorite staff where Alicia and Sara along with Matt M and and I think I remember I hardly ever got visited by anyone and I had nothing. Scott… Smith was my therapist and also my teacher was a tall redhead can't remember her name at all and some very rude staff Mary took my stuffed animal and sat on it and stole it and I never seen it again I had it since I was a baby it was a giant stuffed bear. And it really hurt me in a time I had nothing no family nothing she beat up my stuffy and stole it and I was broken to having not even a imaginary family anymore. I was there from like 2010 to 13 or 14.
I was here from 11 years old to 13, I had been to the oregon state mental hospital, trillium, farm home and youth villages, and out of all of them, this place is the best. I have mixed feelings about jasper. I left a… better person I do believe, but I was not ever stayed in contact with like I was told, and that hurt. Left a bad taste in my mouth. I had got to know everybody I was there with, staff members, Ethan is one I really remember, and there was a short man with a ring he would play with and we would play chess. I have been doing really well if anyone remembers me. Really happy to see you guys are still on a mission. Not sure why 7 years later I decided to leave a review at 1:35 in the morning, but here I am.
I rember being there from I think 5 to 9 I never really liked the place but if it weren’t for them probably would be worse condition
My son is currently in there residential program and I'm so happy and thankful to all the staff and people who's helped us along the way. My sons behaviors got pretty scary and throughout this whole process the safe… center has always helped as much as they can along the way. I'm thankful and very grateful of everything that the safe center has done.😁
If I could give 0 stars I would, i finally found this place again & my experience was so traumatic I forgot the name and just remember it being like a jail on top of a hill and then I saw the pictures and wanted to… finally share my story. I was sent here as a child having a mental health episode I was so young. I have trauma from this place and I’m surprised it’s not shut down because it very well should be. I was so scared being there I was not allowed to talk to ANYONE I wasn’t allowed to read with the group I couldn’t play with other kids and I even had to eat alone. The staff were horrible I literally felt like I was in prison. I remember being told that only the kids who had been there longer or “good kids” could play and talk to each other. There was another child there experiencing the same thing I was. We would get in trouble for even asking staff anything. We had to wake up early and make our beds and we were very rudely woke up. I remember laying there at night thinking of ways to literally break out and run away. We couldn’t even make phone calls.. it was truly a traumatic experience. You guys are horrible and horrible people. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE.
I went here about a year and a half ago and it changed me a lot in a good way. And the director of Jasper and safe senter is realy nice so is his wife. and the staff there are amazing they are realy nice and kind sure… they can be tough sometimes but it is only because they care about us . And the teachers at the school they are amazing one of them even adopted one of the foster kids . And you make a lot of friends there I still talk to kids that went there and they are doing well all I'm saying is Jasper is amazing in my opinion they help me find myself . - KoloaLover2011
They strip searched my 13 year old who was in crisis for suicidal thoughts, so they told her they could put their hands on her and force her to remove her clothes or she could do it willingly. Head to to search, and… then called dhs because she self harms.... I thought they understood what crisis means. Update: In addition, her record on site were falsified stating they didn't know if she had mental health help or not despite the fact the I used the child center crisis line. She was picked up with TCC staff. THE CHILD CENTER ARRANGED HER STAY!!! Do NOT send your child here. She was absolutely treated the opposite of what she needed. She was subject to coercion to remover her clothing, left alone and isolated and called the "crisis" kid by staff in front of other kids. I WILL NEVER USE THIS PLACE AGAIN! They should be shut down for how they treated my child.
Don’t make your kids come here
They don’t know how to hold children right
DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE. This facility is very cult like with daily meditation, doing “special dances” for the staff, and being around other kids who are as naive to all the stuff as you. Want to have trip wire… alarms by your bed? Go ahead! Want to cry every night for 90 days only hoping to see someone from your family? Why not! Want to get a nervous peeing disorder for when you leave to a temporary foster home where they give you diapers being age 11? Sure! Then send your children here. I will never send my children to a place like this. It’s disgusting and twisted and quite frankly reminds me of an asylum. Please, if you love your kids do not make the same mistake my mother did.
