New Horizon Counseling Center – Smithtown appears on the register for intensive outpatient and outpatient care. Sessions follow a set timetable while people keep living at home. New Horizon Counseling Center – Smithtown Address, Location and Contact Information

The facility address is 1056 West Jericho Turnpike, Smithtown, New York, 11787. Suffolk County covers this area. The site also serves the surrounding area, and anyone traveling in should confirm the route before setting out. The practical question of getting to appointments week after week is worth thinking through at the outset.

It is worth calling first to confirm access, parking and the shape of a first visit. Where travel is difficult, ask whether an initial appointment can be held remotely. Admissions lines are frequently busiest early in the week, which is worth knowing if the first attempt fails.

I’ve had such a positive experience at NHCS. My therapist, Danielle, has been incredibly supportive, kind, and genuinely invested in my progress. She creates a space where I feel heard, understood, and encouraged to… grow. She has truly been a godsend through difficult times. Dr. Jaffrey is equally wonderful—thorough, attentive, and always willing to explain things in a way that makes me feel confident in my care. Together, they’ve made a meaningful difference in my life, and I’m truly grateful for the compassion and professionalism they bring to every appointment.

I have been attending this clinic for 6 years. I have been with doctor jaffrey for 4 of those, I met with him one time because my doctor at the time couldn’t see me and I automatically asked to be switched. He is… personable and really cares about his patients. I also have been with my therapist Danielle Bonesera for 5 years, and when I tell you, I have been in therapy practically my whole life, she is by far my favorite. I recommend new horizons counseling center of smithtown to anybody looking to better their mental health!!

New Horizon Counseling Center and the wonderful women on my team have literally saved my life. They have been my light while being in a very dark place. My therapist Jennifer and Dr Janet Harrkins have worked with me… through complex personal problems and untreated anxiety I have had since childhood. Both are wonderful listeners and easy to talk to. My care coordinator Eimmy has helped me navigate insurance and state benefits I am entitled to. I can't say enough about this wonderful organization. I have never received this type of care and concern before. They were even the first people to call after an ER visit for my back because they got the alert! Thank you New Horizons for giving me the tools to paddle through the storm.

I would strongly caution anyone against seeking treatment at New Horizon. If i could give this place no stars, i would. Julie and Susan have still not returned any of my phone calls regarding obtaining my fiancés… medical records and doctor’s notes. They are refusing to provide paperwork that legally belongs to us. We were even told by my mother-in-law that they said, “We shredded it.” I am absolutely appalled by the lack of professionalism and the mishandling of these records. At this point, I will have no choice but to file a formal complaint with the Health Department. I just left a message to the front deck on 06-17-2026 to please provided us these files and she stated she would have a supervisor contact me... YET nothing! The lack of urgency, communication and overall patient care was unacceptable. One of the biggest issues was their system outage. My fiancé has been unable to return to work for over two weeks because medical records and required documentation could not be accessed or released. Every time we called, we were met with the same response: “There’s nothing we can do, you’ll have to wait until the system comes back up.” No solutions, no alternatives, no sense of urgency despite the fact that someones livelihood was being affected. The therapists and psychiatrists seemed rushed and unavailable. Appointments often felt like patients were being pushed through rather than genuinely listened to. During one visit ..my fiancé was left waiting while his therapist was occupied on a phone call. It became a recurring theme that patients time simply wasn’t valued. The supervision and management at this facility were equally disappointing and down right terrible at helping …. FOR ANYTHING! Concerns were repeatedly escalated, yet nothing was resolved. We received conflicting information from different staff members and there appeared to be no accountability when problems arose!!!!! The medication management was also concerning. There was little consistency, little explanation and no clear treatment structure. Instead of feeling guided by professionals, it often felt like my fiancé was left trying to figure things out on his own. Change meds so many times in less than a month…. Thankfully, we sought a second opinion elsewhere and immediately received more answers, more compassion and more support in one appointment than we experienced during our entire time at New Horizon. If you are being referred here, especially if you’re already struggling with anxiety, depression or other mental health concerns...I would seriously consider looking at other options before committing to treatment with this practice.

Doctors rush visits with patients and do not follow up with their patients. If you are seeking long term chronic care do not come here what’s so ever

Any medical facility caring for mental illness or sick patients should have top patient care. This place has ZERO. They are unorganized, lack patient care and the doctors are unsure of their diagnosis’s and don’t truly… care what is the outcome to the patient . The treatment of care they plan to give is rushed, indecisive & not thought out. They have no care in the world about their patients and just want to get on to the next patient. That is not how any medical facility should run! I am in the medical field & this place is totally unprofessional.

Zero stars if I could : system was down for over a week and they were so rude about it . Not good with dealing with people with mental health issues . Making someone wait who is already irritated is not a good idea .… They should be shut down already . Save yourself the horror and find someone who cares . Also who ever the girl is who handles the phones was rude not helpful and hated helping in any way .

USE THIS PLACE AS A LAST RESORT ONLY!!! I haven't been a patient of this place for about almost a year. Since than I've moved on to another Doctors office and thank God that I did. I want to first start off with the… good things. There were 2 therapists specifically I had that were extremely kind, and professional which were Nicole, and David. There was also an older lady with short blonde hair that would work at the front desk, she was a absolute sweetheart. Now for the bad. Unfortunately, I've had the displeasure of meeting Dr, Jaffrey as well as Dr, Emery. Not only is Dr. Jaffrey a miserable man but he was often late to his appointments with me, as well as admitting to me that he wasn't reading notes or any emails from my therapist to him regarding me the entire time. He admitted this because I questioned him about asking the same things every appointment. He also accused me of abusing drugs and gave me diagnosis "marujuana disorder" when I told him I smoked marujuana maybe once or twice a week for panic. I decided to switch Psychiatrista to the only other Doctor they had in office, which was Dr Emery. Dr. Emery was also late to her appointments almost every time. She also would ask me the same questions every single appointment, like "what are my hobbies" etc which gave me the suspicion that she also just didn't pay attention as well. This lasted for a year. During the time that she was my Doctor she Diagnosed me with "panic disorder" and that was it. I tried explaining to her and asked her if I could get testing for other things because I still felt something was wrong, and she would just sit there and stare at me like I had 10 heads, not answer the question, and move on. Most importantly she would up my medication way to frequently and by a lot, this caused me to have severe reactions with almost 75% of the medication she prescribed multiple times. On top of that after leaving New Horizons I learned that she is actually a Child Psychiatrist, that's why she is only there 1 day a week. Why would she be helping adults, if she professionalizes in children? & Finally, I was misdiagnosed by both Doctors for 2 and a half years. That being said it took 3 years and entirely new office to finally find out what's going on and I'm happy to say I'm doing a lot better. Another thing I'd like to bring up is the extreme unprofessionalism of the rest staff at the front desk staff, as well as management. I cannot reiterate a enough PLEASE only use this place as your last resort if you have no where else to go and you need help.

The worst place you can go to for mental health care. The therapist Sean I had there was nice but he had no helpful advice to give and no coping skills. The psychiatrists are the worst. I had Dr. Emery as the first one.… She insisted I was fine, meanwhile I ended up going to CPEP that then transferred me to South Oaks. Then I was given a new psychiatrist when I got out Roan Forgie. He was even worse than Emery. He made comments about my weight and how big I was, and how I need to exercise. Does he not know what psychiatric medication does, most cause weight gain. When my bipolar mania was going out of control, he completely normalized it and did nothing to help it. He just gave me Xanax to sedate me because he didn’t know what else to do. Even my therapist as dumb as he was encouraged me to switch and I switched to Jannet. She was the best out of a bad bunch. The first meeting with her, she was rude and out of line. The only way to make her happy and have her be nice to you was to dress up in nice clothes. Also Roan only tested my Lithium level one time I was with him. Even Jannet knew I needed to be checked and my Lithium level was dangerously low and it was a huge reason why my mood was unstable. But New Horizons dropped the ball. I contacted my therapist and asked him about the blood work and they said they hadn’t got it. So then he emailed Jean from medical records and she didn’t respond plus never tried to get my results. I took it upon myself to get them and I saw my number was way too low. What if I was in Lithium toxicity? If I didn’t fight for the results, they would have let it sit. That was the last straw for me. I now have a new care team and they have been wonderful. I am now on all weight neutral medication and I was able to lose the weight and I’m losing even more, so to Roan who made his comments, joke is on him. I also got my friend I met in group therapy out to, she now sees the same therapist as me and is much happier being away from this horrible place. If I could give it zero stars I would. Three years of horrible patient care.

I have been going here for years for mental health support. Everyone I have interacted with here is not only friendly, professional and helpful, but my current psychologist Danielle just went out of her way for the… millionth time, using what little free time she has along with her personal time in order to help me get paperwork I need for an international trip completed on a short deadline. The people here literally save lives and prevent tragedies, and I want them, as well as anyone else reading this to know real life heroes do exist, and many of them can be found at this location. Thank you, James

I had this appointment for weeks. Made it clear workers comp is handling a diff therapist and my personal insurance will cover this one over the phone. They refuse to "share work" with another therapist now that im… sitting infront of them despite being cleared over the phone. 2 minutes in they are bringing up a whole 2 more hours of evaluation one of which is with a psych for medication. Not even 10 min in and they are pushing pills. The front desk took 20 minutes to just refund my copay. Unprofessional, inefficient and overall clearly not a establishment focused on helping people. Clearly if they cant push pills they dont want you. I spent 35 minutes in this place and 30 of it was them all figuring out if they want to treat me. Not to mention they didnt even give me the suicide hotline or any free access sources before letting me go. Do not come here if you want to get well. Come here if you want to be driven farther into the hole by more bureaucracy and incompetence then DMV. Update:They called me not even a week later attempting to reschedule my intake, to tell them they turned me away. They had to confirm cause it sounded like they wanted to charge me a missed appointment fee. They then confirmed their management refuses to see me (Which I already knew). So they didnt just waste my time and my sanity in one day, they called me to piss me off a second time. Im sick to think about all of the people who also needed help but got turned away and werent given any suggestions or anything.

I had to reschedule my appointment last week. I called Tuesday 5/16/2023 at 5:15 PM and was told to call the next day from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM since the therapist were gone for the day. I called next day during business… hours and was told the therapist would give me a call next Monday 5/22/2023 because she/he had to see her/his schedule first. I'll not bother myself calling them again. The intake appointment takes at least 15 mins just by asking a lot of questions. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.

Do not recommend. They are VERY unreliable. I was a client for a few months and it was the worst experience I’ve had with a counseling center. They can’t get their appointments right. The therapists were awful. The… psychiatrist was very unhelpful. They’re unprofessional and the staff is rude. Don’t waste your money or time here. Find someone who knows what they’re doing and cares about it too. 0/10

Feel like getting a proper intake takes a lot more steps than it should. I've been out of therapy for more than 10 months due to the pandemic. As an individual with a mental illness, this is a huge health concern. I… apparently had an open case and was about to have it closed until I was asked if I wanted to explore more options. I said yes as to give this company a second chance- Ever since then, it's been a game of phone tag. There are no exact appointments for an Intake Assessment. You are expected to have 15-30++++ minutes blocked off out of your own personal schedule (including call hold time), completely disregarding that New patients may possibly have jobs or careers. It's just a lot. If you have psychiatric services outside of this facility, you are expected to stop using their services which is a little daunting being that at this time post pandemic having a psychiatrist is akin to hitting the careers. I can only hope that the turnover rate of professionals here isn't similar to that of Brentwood Mental Health.
