Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does MESSA cover rehab?

Yes. MESSA medical plans cover substance use treatment at every level: inpatient care, residential rehabilitation in a participating program, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and routine outpatient treatment. Cost sharing matches other covered medical services, so the deductible, copay or coinsurance works the same way it would for any specialist care.

Therapeutic boarding schools, halfway and three-quarter-way houses, wilderness and group-home programs, custodial care and court-ordered services are excluded under the MESSA Choices booklet.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does MESSA cover detox?

Yes, detox is covered. Acute detoxification is paid as an inpatient hospital service, and subacute detox is covered as well, though it requires prior authorization before admission. Both appear in the MESSA Choices and Essentials by MESSA booklets at the same cost sharing as other covered medical care.

Emergency admissions need no advance authorization, but the facility must notify MESSA within 48 hours, or 72 hours over a weekend or holiday.

Medical Detoxhttps://rehabseekers.com/programs/detox-centers/medical-detox/
Does MESSA cover inpatient rehab?

Yes, with prior authorization. Residential substance use rehabilitation in a participating program includes room and board, general nursing, facility drugs, lab and diagnostics, psychological testing, and individual, group and family therapy. Inpatient and residential admissions are authorized before the stay, and a stay without authorization is not paid.

At a participating facility, Blue Cross Behavioral Health makes the decision; for a non-participating facility, MESSA reviews the request through its own provider portal.

MESSA, the Michigan Education Special Services Association, is a nonprofit benefits association that covers Michigan public school and college employees, and its medical plans are underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. For addiction treatment that means a Michigan PPO card, a Blue Cross network behind it, and authorization rules set out plan by plan.

MESSA was formed in 1960 as the health benefits affiliate of the Michigan Education Association and operates as a voluntary employees’ beneficiary association, so its revenue may only go toward paying and administering claims. It covers about 67,100 members and 187,900 insured lives, all through employer groups. Coverage is bargained between the school employer and the union, which is why two teachers in neighboring districts can hold different MESSA plans with different cost shares.

The plan name on the card decides most of the answers below: MESSA Choices, Essentials by MESSA, MESSA ABC, Balance+ and LMS all handle behavioral health slightly differently, and the out-of-network rules diverge sharply. This guide covers which levels of care are paid for, where prior authorization applies and who decides it, what a stay costs, how medication is handled, and how to find a Michigan program that participates.
