About Teen Challenge SA – Stepney
Teen Challenge SA runs Living Free, a Christian faith-based residential rehabilitation programme for men with drug and alcohol dependence and other life-controlling problems, based in Stepney, South Australia. The live-in programme lasts about a year, is abstinence-based and smoke-free, and participants need not be Christian.
Teen Challenge SA Inc is affiliated with the Australian Christian Churches and takes men aged 16 and over. Weekly one-on-one counselling sits alongside group and individual studies, devotionals, house meetings and shared chores. Nicotine replacement is provided on the smoke-free site. Detox is not available here, so applicants may be referred to Drug and Alcohol Services SA first. Applications go through the ‘Apply Now’ route on the service’s own site, then the Intake Coordinator.

Teen Challenge SA Alcohol and Drug Services
Residential rehabilitation is the single level of care at Teen Challenge SA in Stepney. The Living Free programme runs for around 52 weeks, structured around weekly one-on-one counselling, group therapy, individual and group studies, devotionals, house meetings and a share of the household chores.
The programme is abstinence-based and the site is smoke-free, with nicotine replacement provided. Medical detox is not offered, so a man who needs withdrawal management would be referred to Drug and Alcohol Services SA before entry. Faith is part of the fabric here, with devotionals and studies built in, though taking part does not require anyone to be Christian. Waiting times vary, and the Intake Coordinator is the one to ask.

How Much Does Treatment at Teen Challenge SA Cost?
Entry to Teen Challenge SA carries an A$500 processing fee, and board and programme costs are then met from the participant’s Centrelink payments. That is the whole published charge for the roughly 52-week Living Free residential rehabilitation programme, with no separate weekly tariff set out for the Stepney service.
Because the Centrelink arrangement covers board and programme costs, the up-front outlay is limited to that A$500 fee. Private health insurance, Medicare rebates, NDIS and WorkCover are not listed for this programme. Medical detox is not provided on site, so any withdrawal care arranged elsewhere beforehand may carry its own cost. The Intake Coordinator can set out the detail.

Teen Challenge SA Reviews
Reviews of Teen Challenge SA from around the web are limited for the Stepney programme, which is common for faith-based residential services that rely on word of mouth within church networks. RehabSeekers hosts reviews, and any man who has completed Living Free is welcome to share his experience.
A year is a long commitment, so first-hand accounts matter more here than for a short programme. Notes on what the daily structure was like, how the counselling and studies fitted together, whether the smoke-free rule was manageable with nicotine replacement, and how the Centrelink arrangement worked in practice would help another family weigh up the Living Free programme.
Real, life saving, caring, the rehab to go to in SA ; if you are somebody or know somebody who is really looking to change their life for the better.
