Investigate this place before you sign up to stay here. Go for a visit during your search for a place for your rehab. Ask the other facilities what their opinion of Lighthouse of Cullman is. Know that the daily “job”… they go to has many opportunities to acquire any type of things addicts think they need. The staff is rude from the moment of arrival, the meetings are not constructive.
If you have a choice to whether to go to the lighthouse or another half way house do your research. I attended their program 3-2021 and unfortunately did not complete. I was set up for failure from the day I got there.… They tell you that you have an option to work any job you want but once you get there you'll either work at the chicken plant, which is full of drugs and temptation, or hessaire where you'll make $10 an hour. Prepare to pay $125 a week for rent whether you have a job or not. Cameras with audio will be watching you and listening to you throughout the house. Phones are only allowed after 30 days, but it pointless because you can only have them during work hours. You have to turn them in daily after getting home from work. Occasionally Damon, the house manager, will Speak through those cameras letting you know he's listening and watching on his phone. Youre woken up everyday at 4:30 and not allowed back in your room until 3pm. If you don't make a good impression your first day, your chances of completion are slim. They are not afraid to look for reasons to kick you out. I hated and dreaded coming home not knowing what to expect when I arrived. One day I came home after a long day of work to find my clean laundry laying out in yard. That was my punishment for not getting my clothes out of the dryer room which was locked when I tried to get them the night before. I felt depressed and worried the whole time I was there not knowing what I would come home too everyday. Don't get me wrong there are a few good people there that do care about your recovery like Susan, Sarah, and Red Tucker. If your facing jail time if you don't complete a 90 day program, don't expect a walk in the park. Do your research before chosing where you'll be living for the next 90 days. Some people are made to stay even longer up to 6-9 months. I did not complete due to failing a drug test. I can't blame that on anyone but myself, but the environment I was in did not help my recovery either. I had to turn myself in to jail after being kicked out. Spent 30 days in jail and started all over. I went to a 28 day rehab and now I'm 30 days into a 90 day halfway house program called the Phoenix house in Tuscaloosa. I am still working my program and continue to stay sober. I am much happier with the staff and rules here. It is night and day difference compared to the Cullman lighthouse. People here really care and listen, and you are treated like a normal human being and not an inmate. The success rate looks promising her unlike it did there. Just do your research before you get stuck somewhere you may not be able to get out from. One day at a time!
