All the do is lie and tell you the stuff that you want to hear I will never use them or any one with them again had a parent coach though them she said we was doing good and then told cps a different story and lie on us… buy telling us one thing and cps a whole different story I will never ever use them again for anything at all
Was very mistrustful at first when I was hospitalized but NRVCS found a way to get through to me.
I can understand 100% why this place has a low rating. Not only has my mother had a bad experience, but, so have I- That being said: Upfront my terrible experience was a while ago; my husband had his therapist at the… time release him from his counseling services the day his sister died. I had the psychiatrist I was seeing tell me that the medication I was prescribed (at the time) was my problem and I needed to figure out a way to get past the side effects. The special therapist I was seeing for my deep seated childhood PTSD released me from my services when they found out I had moved out of the area for a few years, and didn’t even give me a good reason to why. — That aside- I understand life happens and (at the time I was out of the area to keep services) So… I am back in the area and I have set myself back up with them for ME-because I need the extra help right now, at this time. The ladies that are currently helping me out are hands down the best, personable, friendly, and they have gone out of the way to help me with everything I have asked for.
Been going here for 4 years and so far I am satisfied with the service.
We at Mack & Third Foundation recommend that any person that's in the New River Valley with challenges of substance abuse visit 401 Peer Main Street Radford Va, there are many resources there to help guide you in your… freedom of substance abuse, 💘💯 Thank you Jared, and Beans the team sure guided me to recovery and I love 19 months of freedom from a 39 year vicious cycle of substance abuse. This is where my journey began and today I am in 72 hour Peer Support Specialist Training classes. I also reached out to Congress to assist with barriers for individuals like me to have a place to share my life experience for specific barriers that I am determined to overcome. There is Hope in Recovery for all substances and that includes gambling.
Terrible place Terrible people and Terrible service
I started coming here when I was just 8 years old. Without going into the specifics of my medical history, I’ll simply say this: I’ve been a patient here for 21 years — a very long time. I’ve always appreciated the… hands-off approach, which suited me well, as I’ve always been a private, independent person. I’ve been on the same medications since childhood, and for nearly two decades, I was never asked to do lab work — no blood tests, nothing invasive. The case managers have consistently been the most positive part of my experience. And Dr. Freeben, who saw me from age 8 to 16, was by far my favorite therapist. She understood me, respected my boundaries, and truly cared. After she retired to start a family, I transitioned into adult care — and that’s when things began to change. Even then, my current therapist — who I’ll soon be parting ways with — didn’t immediately push for blood work. For the first few years, my needle phobia was respected. But once I turned 27, the testing began. Despite being clear about my fear, the policy shifted, and blood tests became routine. It’s worth noting that I’m not the only one in my family who’s had issues here. My cousin and uncle were both patients, but when cannabis was still illegal, they were given an ultimatum: stop using it, or NRVCS would stop treating them. They both left and started going to the Salem center, which, by all accounts, offered even worse care. It was disappointing then — especially now that cannabis is legal and widely accepted. Which brings me to the real issue: these blood tests. Officially, they’re to monitor for harmful side effects from medication — and while that sounds reasonable, there’s a quiet second purpose no one wants to admit. These labs are also used to drug test patients. It’s surveillance disguised as care. And that’s not what I came here for. I did not sign up for surveillance — I signed up for therapy. So I’m done
Left me essentially locked in a room for hours, and didn't respect my wishes to go home, and I felt trapped and unsafe. Do not go here.
I came from Loudoun County, Virginia, the wealthiest county in the United States. NRVCS is LIGHTYEARS beyond what Loudoun County offers. I probably can't even get into much detail, but mostly just, probably the opposite… of what most people end up receiving in most other places, from level of care and attention, to excellent, helpful, LOGICAL, respectful, resourceful, dedicated, personalized experts in virtually any social services arena. Amazing, competent, caring and thorough staff, I personally cannot thank this place enough. NRVCS has helped me change my life around in a very efficient matter. They don't do "cookie- cutter" help. They help on so many levels on virtually any issues you could imagine. NRVCS should serve as an example to the entire nation on how to use community resources to ACTUALLY help people. I cannot recommend or thank them enough.
If you call access which is through nrvcs in a crisis they hang up on you.
I will recommend NRVCS in Radford to any and everyone. They care. They listen. And they work with you. My psychiatrist took one session to fix my sleep habits and my counselor. Oh man. She is the best person ever on… this earth. Thank you NRVCS. You really did save me and my life.
I’ve used NRVCS for about 2 years and I can honestly say they are the only facility that has ever truly cared about my mental well being. I’ve been seeing my doctor for quite a while and I have made a huge improvement… since being in her care. With my diagnosis, most doctors give up after a while or never even really try other than prescribe a cocktail of meds. My doctor at NRVCS takes time to listen and cares enough to make the right medical decisions for my mental and physical well being. NRVCS in my opinion is the best place I’ve gone to. I also highly recommend their crisis center. An amazing resource that helps a lot if you’re in desperate need. These people truly care IF you treat them with respect :)).
STAY VERY FAR AWAY IF YOU ARE OR SUSPECT YOU HAVE AUTISM OR ADHD! THEY WILL GASLIGHT YOU OUT OF TREATMENT!
Expect to get a bill for 1000 dollars for speaking to a nurse , the offices are nice tho
NRVCS has helped me a lot.
James the director treated a friend of mine who is in recovery like dirt and has given our recovery meeting such a hard time that we were finally forced to find a new meeting place. This place is about the $$ not the… people. Garbage.
This place is a joke to the community, they lie on your name and you find out years later, they don't help you with your mental illness they just care about themselves. Do NOT recommend at all If you have mental health
Not the best place to get help with your issues. Turnover is a huge problem. Counselors and therapists leave within months of hiring. When you start to get comfortable with your therapist, they leave. Getting… appointments, returning phone calls and prescription refills are a hassle. They are a disservice to the community and I recommend that you go somewhere else.
Just no. The only decent program is mhsb. Cm is non existent for the most part thr coincelors I wouldn't wish on anybody and the psych I have had there is not so great even rho he started out great with me. He literally… just rx me a med that u are not supposed to take if u have a seizures disorder knowing I have one that this med will cause seizures and its a schizophrenia med he was supposed to be giving me something for sleep. Now nrvcs won't make me a new apps with him to go over this.
Worked with Courtney today. Highly recommend! 10/10 experience!
I have been diagnosed with a mental health illness for 14 years. This was my first inpatient experience. To say the least, I was nervous about the process, in addition to being ill. So first, the facility is clean and… neat. The staff was diligent about keeping it that way. It's a small inpatient crisis management program, so there are less than 10 patients admitted at a time. You have a room to yourself and, depending on your illness and where you are in the treatment process, you get a good bit of freedom. Privacy is somewhat limited but that is expected. There is also a cat that lives on site. He was great and interacted well with all of the patients. At this program you are expected to participate as fully as you can with a schedule of group therapy. The therapy lasts the majority of the day. They cover a wide variety of topics, some I was very familiar with, others I had never tried before. Be prepared to work for your mental wellness. You receive plenty of individualized attention as well and can request additional time with a clinician if needed. The staff here are out of this world. There are licensed counselors, peer resource counselors and nurses that are group mediators/directors. But in addition to those, there are the people that do your laundry, make your meals, and check in with you in the middle of the night when you can't sleep. You can tell that everyone who works there actually likes the job. For many, they have multiple jobs in the medical field, and their dedication is felt each and every day. They treat you as a person and not an illness. You see a nurse every single day. Their doctor or physician assistant are there almost every day and are kind, courteous and knowledgeable. The doctor especially blew me away. When was the last time a doctor looked at you and not a computer during a visit? And he listened to my input! I feel that the medication changes started there were hugely beneficial. While no one wants to be hospitalized, if you have to be, this is the place to to go. If I had to return I would do so without concern.
If you have a choice between Carilion or NRVCS, than I would go with NRVCS, which is not saying much. Expect mediocre service, unorganized therapists, and an unseemly wait for a psychiatrist (Still waiting). If you ever… have the misfortune of having to depend on them for a case manager, I wouldn't trust them with a house plant.
