State Funded Rehab Centers in Virginia

State-funded rehab in Virginia usually means care through a local community services board (CSB) or through a private program that holds a contract with the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). Public dollars help cover treatment for residents who are uninsured, underinsured or unable to pay the full cost.

Listings on this page show Virginia programs that report state-funded or other public payment. The information comes from government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details the providers send us. Before you travel, ask the program about payment terms, openings and intake steps.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions about State Funded Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Where are state-funded rehabs in Virginia?

State-funded rehab listings in Virginia cluster around Norfolk, Williamsburg, Arlington, Riverside and Richmond, so people in or near those cities tend to have the shortest search. Eligibility rules still apply wherever a program sits.

Washington, Norfolk and Richmond are the larger cities close to these listings. People willing to travel can widen a search to those metro areas and ask each admissions team about funding availability.

Rehab Centers in Norfolkhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/virginia/norfolk/
Is state-funded rehab covered by Virginia Medicaid?

Virginia Medicaid is accepted by nearly all of the state-funded rehabs in Virginia, through Cardinal Care managed care plans such as Humana Healthy Horizons of Virginia, Sentara Health Plans and Anthem HealthKeepers Plus. Coverage runs through whichever plan a member is enrolled in, and behavioral health care falls under those plans.

Rehab Centers in Virginia That Accept Virginia Medicaid (Cardinal Care)https://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/virginia/cardinal-care/
Are there state-funded rehabs near a river in Virginia?

A median of about 10.1 miles separates listed facilities from the nearest river, and nearly all of the state-funded rehabs in Virginia sit within 25 miles of one. The most-named rivers are the Anacostia River, Little River and Occoquan River, measured from each program's address.

Eligibility and open beds often matter more than setting when choosing a publicly funded program. Anyone who values outdoor surroundings can ask intake staff what lies near the program.

How does state-funded addiction treatment work in Virginia?

State-funded addiction treatment in Virginia is care paid for partly with public money that the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services passes to local community services boards and to providers under contract. The department combines state funds with the main federal block grant for addiction prevention, treatment and recovery services.

The department also runs the federal State Opioid Response grant, and a separate body, the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority, awards grants from the Opioid Abatement Fund. These grants pay for programs. None of them is a service you can apply to directly, so your starting point is still a community services board or a contracted provider.

Boards generally weigh where you live, clinical need, insurance status and household income, and pregnant people and people who inject drugs move ahead on waitlists under federal rules. Anyone who may qualify for Cardinal Care, Virginia’s Medicaid program, should apply for it first, and state funds can fill gaps while the application is pending.
