Benzodiazepine Rehab Centers in Virginia

Benzodiazepine treatment in Virginia ranges from a slow taper with a prescriber to medically monitored withdrawal management and residential care. A clinical assessment sets the right level of care, not a fixed plan. Medications such as alprazolam, clonazepam, diazepam and lorazepam can be reduced safely, but stopping them suddenly can be dangerous.

The listings on this page show Virginia programs that report treating benzodiazepine or sedative use, with their levels of care, payment options and locations. The questions below cover withdrawal safety, coverage under Cardinal Care and how to look up a provider’s state license.

Common questions about Benzo Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Virginia cities have benzo rehabs?

Chesapeake, Salem, Norfolk, Short Pump and Arlington are where benzodiazepine rehab listings in Virginia cluster, in that order. Larger cities within reach include Washington, Norfolk and Roanoke, which widens the choice for people able to travel a short distance beyond their home town before intake begins.

Rehab Centers in Chesapeakehttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/virginia/chesapeake/
Is benzo rehab covered by Virginia Medicaid?

Sentara Health Plans, Aetna Better Health of Virginia, Anthem HealthKeepers Plus, Humana Healthy Horizons of Virginia and UnitedHealthcare of the Mid-Atlantic carry Virginia Medicaid managed care under Cardinal Care, with behavioral health and addiction treatment covered by the plans. Most of the benzo rehabs in Virginia record accepting Virginia Medicaid.

Rehab Centers in Virginia That Accept Virginia Medicaid (Cardinal Care)https://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/virginia/cardinal-care/
Are there benzo rehabs near a river in Virginia?

Nearly all of the benzo rehabs in Virginia sit within 25 miles of a river, with a median of about 9.1 miles from listed facilities. The most-named rivers are the South Fork Roanoke River, the Anacostia River and the Little River.

River access is a matter of location rather than treatment, so families weighing distance from home can ask an admissions team how far a particular program sits from the water.

Is it safe to stop taking benzodiazepines on my own?

No, stopping benzodiazepines on your own is not safe, because withdrawal after regular use can include seizures as well as severe anxiety, sleeplessness and confusion. In Virginia, as elsewhere, any reduction should be a gradual taper planned with the prescriber or a medical team.

Federal labeling for the drug class has carried a boxed warning on dependence and withdrawal since 2020, and clinical tapering guidance published in 2025 also describes slow, individualized reductions. A clinical assessment decides whether a taper can happen at home or calls for medically monitored withdrawal management in Virginia.

Physical dependence is not the same as addiction. Anyone who takes a benzodiazepine regularly as prescribed can become dependent, and for dependence alone, the usual route is a planned taper set up with the prescriber. A sedative use disorder involves a pattern such as cravings or loss of control, and may call for counseling and a structured program as well.
