Veterans Rehab Centers in Virginia

Veterans in Virginia looking for help with alcohol or drug use have several routes into care: the VA health care systems based in Hampton, Richmond and Salem, community providers the VA pays through community care, and programs that bill TRICARE, Medicare, Virginia Medicaid or private insurance. These listings cover substance use and co-occurring mental health care, not vocational rehabilitation or long-term care homes.

Listings draw on government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and details the providers send in themselves. Most veterans programs mapped in Virginia, 60 percent, sit in towns rather than large cities.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Common questions about Veterans Rehab

Answered from what is listed here.

Where are veterans rehabs in Virginia?

Veterans rehab listings in Virginia cluster in Norfolk, Dover, Williamsburg, Riverside and Arlington, in that order. Washington, Norfolk and Richmond are the larger cities nearby, so a family can often pair a program search with travel to a city they already know well.

Norfolk heads the list, so a search there is a natural starting point for comparing veterans programs, admissions steps, waiting times and the payment routes each clinic records on its listing.

Rehab Centers in Norfolkhttps://rehabseekers.com/locations/us/virginia/norfolk/
Is veterans rehab covered by Virginia Medicaid?

Cardinal Care managed care plans, among them Aetna Better Health of Virginia, Anthem HealthKeepers Plus and Sentara Health Plans, carry Virginia Medicaid coverage for veterans rehab, including behavioral health and addiction treatment. Most of the rehabs for veterans in Virginia record accepting Virginia Medicaid as a payment route.

Are there veterans rehabs near a river in Virginia?

The Anacostia River, Little River and Pedlar River are the most-named waterways near veterans rehabs in Virginia. Nearly all of the rehabs for veterans in Virginia are within 25 miles of a river, at a median of about 9.8 miles from listed facilities. A river setting describes location, not care.

How can veterans in Virginia get addiction treatment through the VA?

Veterans enrolled in VA health care can get addiction treatment by asking their VA primary care team or a VA mental health clinic in Virginia for a referral. Some VA addiction programs also take a request directly from the veteran. Virginia is covered by VA health care systems based in Hampton, Richmond and Salem.

Each of those systems runs a main medical center plus outpatient clinics across its region. Veterans not yet enrolled can apply online, by phone or at any VA facility. Eligibility turns on service history, discharge status and, for some veterans, income. A county or regional veterans service officer can help with the application at no charge.

If timely or nearby VA care is not available, the VA may refer an enrolled veteran to an outside provider through community care. Outside of emergencies, that referral has to be arranged before treatment begins. Veterans who choose a private program without a referral generally pay through TRICARE, Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance or their own funds.
