Pine Rest Christian Mental Hlth Servs – Traverse City Detox and Rehab Services
What Pine Rest Christian Mental Hlth Servs – Traverse City offers, on record, is intensive outpatient and outpatient care. The structured element runs during the day and people go home afterwards. Anyone unsure which level fits should ask for an assessment rather than choosing from a list, since placement criteria exist precisely to make that judgement.
The listing records a single focus rather than combined treatment, so anyone needing both should confirm what is available. The weekly time commitment varies considerably between providers, so establish it early rather than after admission.

I had a very distressing experience with Dr. Wilkinson that I feel others should be aware of. I would strongly caution others, especially those who are vulnerable or neurodivergent, to consider this before scheduling… with him. I asked for his clinical opinion about lamotrigine (Lamictal), which another physician had previously mentioned as a possible future option. I did not ask for the medication. After bringing this up, the interaction escalated significantly. Dr. Wilkinson became defensive and stated that I was “treating him like a vending machine” and said, “You think I’m not a nice doctor just because I’m not giving you the medication that you want,” even though I was not requesting a prescription. He also asked me, “Do you think Dr. Lin is a nice doctor?” which felt inappropriate and unrelated to my care. When I calmly stated that the “vending machine” comment was rude and unprofessional, he responded sarcastically, “Whoa, I’m rude and unprofessional?” and continued to argue with me while I was visibly upset and crying. When I expressed concern about increasing my Abilify dose due to the risk of weight gain, he dismissed this by saying, “If you haven’t gained weight on 5 mg, that’s a bad argument,” rather than discussing risks in a collaborative way. This interaction felt invalidating, emotionally unsafe, and inconsistent with the kind of supportive, patient-centered care I expect from a psychiatrist. There appears to be an ongoing pattern of defensiveness rather than collaboration.
This place and it's councilors are a joke. They will lie to you about what insurance they take if they want you transfered out of their system, they do not care about your mental health. They only care about your money.… They will lie about your treatments, they will lie about your diagnosis. I would highly recommend NOT trusting these people. Especially the therapist named Faith Houghton. She will deceive you into believing she cares, wants to help, she does not. She wants to get your services over as quickly as possible, and get you out of the way like a number not a person.
Go to anyone else besides Laurie Anger; Her last name fits her well. She should absolutely not be working with anyone with mental health issues.
I can't say enough good things about Kym Hansen-Duell. I have been seeing her on and off since my teenage years and can honestly say that she has helped me in so many ways I can't even begin to describe them all. She… has been so accommodating with scheduling, quick to reschedule when she takes (much deserved!) time off, and understanding when I need to reschedule. With DBT and Kym, I am no longer "just surviving," I am thriving. She helped me find the me I was always meant to be and for that, I am eternally greatful. I have always been impressed with Pine Rest TC but Kym is the crown jewel of the professionals they have.
Set up therapy for my daughter I believe back in May. We have had a couple planned trips this summer, but taking that into account, Kym, has cancelled 3 times. Once or twice it was because of a pre planned absence that… she knew about but never let office staff know until last minute. Plus on top of that, she requested paperwork from me that I don’t believe has any bearing on my daughter’s therapy. If clients cancel three times for CA any reason, they’re discharged, but therapists can continually cancel. My daughter needs consistency.
I've been going for a few years and both counselors I have seen are great. They really care and are willing to go above and beyond. Both have been available after hours if I needed it. Faith is very caring, knowlegable,… and prompt with refill requests. The front office staff is always friendly and helpful. Individual experiences will obviously vary, but I have not experienced anything that is remotely like what you see in the negative reviews.
Waited 3 months for an appointment, only to have then cancel it because one of the online forms wouldn't accept my signature, as the box you have to tap to fill it in wasnt working and was told I couldn't do my… appointment without the form.
I've never been here but the site does not say whether or not they accept insurance and what forms of insurance. Pricing for services is so vague just by looking at the services they offer
Wow I wish I would have looked at the reviews before becoming a patient here! I won't be returning. My first therapist treated me like a number, he didn't even try to get to know me. I showed up for an appointment,… waited 25 minutes and then asked the receptionist where my therapist was, he called him and he lied and said he was waiting on a zoom call for me. I didn't schedule a video call I scheduled in person. He finally came out and got me for a 30 minute visit! What a waste of my time and money from my insurance! total hot mess nobody knows what organization is. And just by the looks of the other people's experience, Pinerest you guys really need to step up and give better care to the people who need it most! Shame on you guys for giving poor care to all of Traverse City! Sad they just get away with it. Like the others said, don't waste your time or mental health.
My husband has been a patient of pine rest for over ten years. His first doctor was doctor Wilconson(not sure on the spelling) who was an amazing help to him for years. Then as an adult he had seen Laurie Angler.… Absolutely the worst person to be “treating” anyone with mental health problems. Thank God my husband was on the right medications and dosages before he set up appointments with her and that he never had an episode in her care because I honestly don’t think she knows how to do anything for her patients. She had messed up his med refills several times and during visits only asked, “How are you? Still at the same job? Anything new? Are you taking your meds? Okay I need to see you in 2 months, I Just don’t see you enough.” When she first answered the video call she asked “why did you stand me up at our last appointment?” In the rudest tone and maintained that though the whole call. He didn’t stand her up, he tried to get though on the call and it didn’t work, so he called the office and didn’t get through to anyone, then left and message to reschedule. Then no one called back and he called again to make a new appointment the following week. How is that standing anyone up? She said “well I never got any messages” and was snarky the whole call. It just sounds like she reads a script for the questions during the visits and doesn’t really care, not even making eye contact during the conversation. His previous doctor he saw every 6 months and knew everything going on in his life, met me and asked me questions about how I thought my husband was doing. Dr. Wilconson really got to know him and his problems. Laurie wanted to see him every 2 months for 5 minute appointments where she learned nothing about him and even had said he was non compliant about taking his meds which has no grounds because I see him take them every night. She asks him to have blood work done at every visit and claimed she doesn’t have any records of him getting it done. I went with him for the blood work so there must be some record keeping issues with their office as well. Do not see Laurie! She has no business treating anyone with mental illness!!
If this is your only option proceed with caution knowing you will have to stand up for yourself at some point. If you have other options I would highly recommend exploring other practices. Communicating should be easy… through the portal but getting a timely response is a constant issue, especially when it comes to my medications. I have went days without medications due to a lack of response from providers and/or my medications being sent to the wrong pharmacy. Psych meds have a major impact on my daily functions and I will experience withdrawal symptoms, the providers at Pine Rest should know this.
Think twice about going.
I came to this clinic twice back in 2019 to talk out some issues. Well I called today to schedule a appointment to start the counseling back up now that the Covid has died down. Well I learned I had a balance of $50.00.… Did not know this! So the girl would not schedule me to see someone until this $50 was paid and I had to call a collection agency to pay this money due. So I called, paid the bill, plus a charge of $5.99 to pay with my debit card! My debit! So I got the confirmation code then I called Pinterest again gave the code that I paid it and still the girl left me on hold for 5 minutes and 33 seconds only to go over the bill I just paid and gave them my code. STOP- I’m worth less than $55.99 to these people. I have lost my father, my mother, and now a daughter. I’m so heart broken and I just needed to talk this out. Now I feel I’m worth less than $55.99 to these people. Sincerely, Heart Broken
I have started seeing Teresa Cieslinski. She seems very kind, has asked good questions and given me helpful advise. Their patient portal is excellent!
My family has benefited so much from our sessions at Pinerest. We have seen many of the therapists, and are handling our challenges so much better. We've experienced help with anxiety, PTSD, ADHD and more. My and my… children's therapists have been so kind and helpful. I truly feel that their hearts are in it. I can't thank them enough. I am watching my family thrive, and think of how Greatful I am for our therapists daily. Thank you all so very much 🥰
I would give 0 if I could. They don't tend to their patients, when people are too depressed to show up they say they won't take them as patients when they owe less than $50. If you actually care about people and are… real therapists, you'll care about suicidal patients more. Do better!!!
Useless, should be ashamed of themselves the awful service they give. Waiting half a year for an appointment and I fully expect it to be canceled the day before.
I am getting the help I need here, and I am very greatful
In 2017 my 27 year old son died tragically. A month later I felt like I should talk with someone professional about it. I don't drive and was late twice and they kicked me to the curb. I couldn't believe she was so rude… about it. I depend on cabs and other people to drive me around. It's not like they don't charge my insurance for it. What's a few minutes to save someone's life that was suicidal as it was? Still alive though. Shame on Pine Rest.
I've been receiving mental heath help from pine rest for close to a year. I was anxious at first to get help in the first place because of anixety and panic disorder.. My family doctor suggested I give them a try so I… decided I would . I have more of an understanding and more support about my issues that I never thought I would get. I didn't feel any better at first but as the time went by I became more aware more myself. Susan Kurt understood me when I fumbled over words and tears. I pray for anyone who needs help to get thelp they need . Pine rest truly has helped me. So Thank you for being there and helping me become me again.
I’ve received great services from Pinerest TC office.
Talk about unprofessionalism. Staff is completely unorganized and clearly do not communicate with one another. I had been waiting for my appointment for 5 months and it got canceled twice, the second time 10 minutes… before my appointment was scheduled. This time around, staff proceeded to schedule my intake appointment for 20 minutes when it needs to be an hour long in order to get the medication I need. Again, couldn't get me in for ANOTHER MONTH. They claim they will call you back and absolutely will not. Waited DAYS for a call back after being told I would be contacted ASAP and I was “top priority”. Finally had to be the one to initiate contact. Do not come here. If you’re looking for help with depression, I can promise they will send you into a downward spiral on more than one occasion. Don’t waste your time.
Do you like your words twisted and manipulated? Do you like being bullied into a treatment plan you dont agree with? Or feeling belittled and talked down to? This is the place for you!
I had video visits with Laurie Anger for about 6 months. I’ve been seeing psychiatrists for about 30+ years. She is by far the worst provider I’ve EVER had the misfortune to choose. I’m lucky to be alive - and I’m NOT… exaggerating! I was near-suicidal and telling her so in messages, calling the office too until I was told to “stop bothering” them with so many messages! She had put me on the ONE medication that I should NEVER have been put on because I had been on it before and had the worst adverse reaction of my life 5 years ago. Unfortunately, I couldn’t remember the name of the medication, but I offered to get my medical records from my psychiatrist at the time. Laurie Anger said, “No.” It wasn’t necessary. Two weeks later, I asked her again, “Are you SURE you don’t want me to get my records from my psychiatrist when I had that bad reaction?” Laurie Anger repeated, “No. Not needed.” So, she changed my meds and put me on — this very medication that caused me the WORST adverse reaction I’ve ever had in my LIFE! I had suicidal thoughts and intentions and told her repeatedly that I was doing terribly and getting worse! Laurie INCREASED my dose! I myself finally figured out that it was the WRONG MEDICATION she had me on! She had me on the ONE with the severe adverse reaction 5 years ago! But she didn’t “NEED” the records from my prior psychiatrist!! I’m lucky to be alive to even TELL you to RUN FROM PINE REST TRAVERSE CITY! I don’t know if the other offices are as poorly run, but when you question them, then they FIRE YOU from their practice and they TRY to tell you that you can’t even see ANY OTHER Pine Rest provider at ANY other Pine Rest Clinic! All of these messages were done without following the standard practice of Pine Rest, I’ve been told.
Dr Probst was my PhD for quite a few years. He is the best!
My counselor is great. However, getting a prescription refilled is a nightmare. I requested a refill last Wednesday, It is now Monday. I ran out this morning, but still have no refill.
I’ve been going here for nearly 4 years. The therapist I had was great and helped me a lot but the customer service is terrible. Sometimes they are very unorganized and important information gets lost. Also teletherapy… doesn’t work for everyone and they won’t open back up so I am forced to find a new therapist that can help me. I wish they’d put more thought into the actual care and health of their patients.
