Ann Arbor DBT Center – Ann Arbor Reviews and Ratings
Reviews of Ann Arbor DBT Center in Ann Arbor from patients, loved ones and referring professionals are collected in this section, together with reviews gathered from around the web.
Great place, most of the time you get out what you put in. Can be very difficult, but I’ve found staff to be very supportive. I have left following some frustrations in the past with staff turnover/intense level of… commitment, but I’m really glad I came back and continue to try for myself with the center’s guidance. Thank you for the service you provide!
Do NOT recommend. They billed me as a patient despite being required to participate with my daughter.
The most useless place you can imagine. People are nice but the therapy is not efficient. The group session is a joke and some of the individual therapist is very forgettable and repeating the same thing over and over… again. The billing is a joke and don't leave your cc with them. They charge you a few months later after you officially dropped out of the program on the saved cc. Go elsewhere and don't waste your time and money here.
BPD was first pushed by a therapist that did more harm than good when I was 13 years old. At 17 I was sent to a long term treatment facility and recommended to Ann Arbor DBT straight after due to my misdiagnosis that… should not have been given. In the 8 months I was there, I cycled through 4 therapists because they kept leaving the program. I had turned 18 months prior and my therapist still thought it was appropriate to reach out to my mother and ask how I was doing. My mom was notorious for misleading my mental health care providers since I was 12 for her own personal gain. BPD diagnosis definitely aided in her frequent invalidation and discrediting towards me. In her true fashion, she mislead my therapist who I had not given permission to contact her after I turned 18. My therapist then brought in the director and sat me down and tried to convince me to admit myself to the hospital which I had just gotten out of. I explained the situation to two sets of skeptical ears and did not go to the hospital as mental hospitals have caused me severe trauma. Shortly after that session I was informed I would be switching therapists for a fourth time. I did not return to the program and haven’t tried to hurt myself since. I found myself a wonderful therapist and got my diagnosis fixed. CPTSD, not BPD…
Was able to enroll into treatment without a long waitlist and sessions are helpful. Highly recommend.
After an eight month waitlist that was only expedited due to the fact that I had very good insurance. BCBS. I could not be more disappointed in my experience with Carol and Cameron and other employees who ver the last 7… months. Carol at best it an absent leader. Cameron, well well intentioned is so far out of her league when it comes to providing care. The group sessions were probably the most frustrating part. There was little to no interaction with your peers. There was no relationship building. It was basically sitting through an hour and a half long lecture where unprepared counselors struggled to figure out what the homework was for the following week.
You would be batter off buying the book they use in sessions and self reflecting. Paperback on Amazon is 30 something. They charge 150 dollars a session. Therapy sessions are lacking in meaning and therapists don’t care… to be more assertive. If you’re having a bad day you can be kicked out of the program and shoved to the back of the waiting line… not so bad but they divide their dbt therapy around 2 separate segments over a handful of months. If you get kicked out you have to wait to redo that chapter then wait to get into the other. A “bad day” to…wanting to share in a because you don’t care to let the other people who dont know you… to then share your goals and ideations of the future. Depression is a huge part of bpd… having a devastating consequence like that PLUS an unrealistic price drives a lot of people away from here. Rightly so. Supervisor that runs groups is older and spacey in nature. Even going so far as to use a kids clock plugged in front of her for group because she losses track of time and gets carried away. Bills also get sent out after fees are usually applied. You have to be on them like stink just to make sure your bill isn’t suddenly $498 dollars. Dissapointing Dbt center. Search up: Marsha M Linehan it’s a book with a blue border and it is spiral bound.
This place is incredible. We have tried to help our older teen with emotion regulation difficulties as well as self harm for a long time, very unsuccessfully. Many providers simply couldn’t help due to lack of expertise… and skills. Then we found A2 DBT Center. Their team is highly skilled and taught all of us so much. We learned a great deal about ourselves, how our normal responding was getting in our way, and we learned emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness skills. Without exaggeration, this place changed our lives. We had to put some work in to learn and master these skills but it was well worth the results. We are able to communicate effectively, our son doesn’t self harm anymore and all of us just live life differently. Highly recommend.
Started therapy here last fall, started with a therapist and a group therapy group. Had about 3 or 4 sessions of both, and have to say it was the most useless therapy I have ever had. Not only that, but my therapist… actually quit? Then I get a bill, which like whatever nothing is free in this world, and I can’t afford the bill so I go on a payment plan. There have been two separate times now where they have charged my account my full amount due instead of charging what my payment plan agreement is. When I asked why this keeps happening, I got an “it was just a mistake”. As someone with anxiety, and as a business that is supposed to treat people for such issues, I’m honestly shocked and appalled at the carelessness displayed by this therapy center.
My sister goes to therapy here and I feel like shes made more progress here than anywhere else. I hope she keeps getting better. If you need help this seems like a solid place to start working on getting better. I… recommend this therapy center to many patients I see in my ER.
This saved my sons life. It’s a year long program with group and one on one sessions. It teaches you how to deal with situations with you have no hope left
I do not recommend. One of the one on one therapists are extremely forgetful, would have to tell them things multiple times, over and over and over. Was also called out for picking at my nails, a thing I do when I get… anxious, and proceeded to accuse me of being on my phone and told me to not pick at my nails again. Is an EXTREME medication pusher, wouldn’t take no for an answer. I told them i didn’t want to go on more meds but kept pushing them. Group was extremely awkward, no one spoke until called on.
I’ve been seeing a therapist for almost 7 months now. C.L. has been great, phone coaching has really helped me especially with targeting behaviors. Overall care is really good. You can tell Carol and her team are… dedicated to helping their clients and my individual therapist for sure has gone above and beyond to give me the best care possible. Super caring individual and really gentle which has been super helpful. Group therapy is helpful especially when figuring out what works and what doesn’t. This is an exceptional DBT clinic.
The individual therapist, one of the newer ones on their staff, was completely unable to connect with my teen in a meaningful way and did not seem to have an understanding of even the fundamental symptoms of anxiety.… EDITED TO ADD: After finally speaking with the head clinician to share my frustration, I'd change this rating to zero stars if I could. I guess I expected an apology for our awful experience or at the very least an expression of empathy - or even an offer of the opportunity to meet with a (more qualified) therapist or try one of their groups. Nothing of the sort was offered, just a curt and dismissive response. I'll be sharing this experience with the health care facility that recommended the DBT Center, and would caution anyone who's in limbo on the DBT Center's (surprisingly long) waitlist for an individual appointment to give the therapist a thorough vetting over the phone before taking the time (and money) to meet in person. I was so happy to get off the waitlist that I failed to do so. Luckily we found a great therapist elsewhere (and what a contrast to this experience!!) There are plenty in this town - it's worth asking around to find them.
My wife and a number of my friends have been patients here and all of them have grown tremendously from their work with the Center! This is a great place to work on retraining yourself to be your best self, or working… through negative and harmful behavioral patterns and traumas.
This program is fantastic! Once you allow yourself to give into change it helps with all kinds of emotional and behavioral problems. It works if you work it, and you need to want to be better. It changed my life, I'm so… happy and have learned to love myself again!
Totall scam, litterally stole money out of my coat while I went to the bathroom
Dropped us from care in the middle of an intense crisis, literally canceling sessions we had scheduled, leaving me with a mentally ill teenager and ZERO care. They then had the gall to call back two months later asking… "if they could help with any transition in care for my child". To add insult to injury, we were on a waiting list for months to get seen by these garbage therapists. They failed us spectacularly and it was horrible. I beg you to look elsewhere. Edit 2/12/19: my review has not been followed up on. I'm not surprised.
Can not get a call back after a referral from UM. Ive left 3 voicemails. If you're full...communicate that to people who are trying to get help so they can look for alternatives in the interim.
I found them to be very helpful and caring.
This program is outstanding for teenagers who have black & white thinking and suffer from self harm. After 2 years of struggling, I feel we are finally making progress. The content is putstanding and Rachel & Mackenzie… do a great job of leading group. It’s not just about “fixing the teen”, but working with the family to function better together.
The Ann Arbor DBT Center both saved and changed my life. My therapist was fantastic. I graduated the program and left with countless coping skills. Thank you to everyone there!!
Six months into the program my individual therapist quits, then my therapist for my group quits. The replacement quits too. So now I have a temporary therapist for one month who I can’t reach because she never gave me… her phone number, and then I have to switch to another therapist. Then I’m supposed to switch to a fourth therapist. NOPE This is disrupting my care. Do not go here. You are better off getting DBT from an individual therapist than in a group setting where one person can derail the whole class and no one stops them. They also don’t have an ability to swipe cards or process payment by cards and take too long to cash checks. I’m sorry, taking a month and a half to cash my check is unacceptable. Good luck reaching their billing department, it’s some random third party biller. I’m so glad that I’ll be done with this place in less than a month, I wish I just stuck with my regular therapist and did DBT with her because this was a waste of time.
The style of therapy wasn't one that worked for our family. We had lack of communication from our individual therapist overall. It was also difficult to receive a call back from our individual or one of our group… leaders. Not only did we pay our co-pay for individual therapy, but we paid 2 co-pays for our group therapy since the center wouldn't bill group sessions as family sessions. Very disappointed since UofM recommended this center so high, but I would not recommend it to anyone.
