Gateway Foundation – West Taylor Street, Chicago Reviews and Ratings
Reviews of Gateway Foundation bring together what patients, families and referring professionals have said about the facility, on RehabSeekers and around the web. Individual experiences differ, so read more than one.
It's been so long since I've been here. I can't even remember the names however I do remember one name and that was John in intake. I am tremendously grateful for John. He was so sweet, caring and hospitable! There were… a few others in the nurse department as well that were just so sweet. Grateful to be able to leave a review. I got 4 years sober!
Overall, my experience at Gateway Chicago was exceptional and overwhelmingly positive. From the moment I arrived, I was treated with dignity, respect, and genuine compassion. The food was good, the staff was… outstanding, and my counselor, Nate, was incredibly helpful throughout my stay. Supervisor Herb is highly professional and, as he often says, he "gets things done" for the clients—a statement I personally witnessed time and time again. His leadership has had a tremendous impact on the men's unit, and he deserves recognition for creating an environment where clients feel supported, respected, and encouraged to succeed. I would also like to recognize Mike, Muhammad, Kenny, Kevin, Richard, Eva, Prentice, Katelyn, China, Mr. B, and Dale. Dale's classes are engaging, informative, and inspiring, and his passion for recovery is evident in every interaction he has with clients. Every one of these staff members demonstrated professionalism, compassion, patience, and dedication. They treated not only me but every client with kindness and respect, making recovery feel possible and giving people hope during one of the most difficult times in their lives. Gateway Chicago, located at 3828 West Taylor Street, Chicago, Illinois 60624, did far more than provide substance abuse treatment—it helped bring sanity, clarity, and serenity back into my life. The staff consistently went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and the needs of others. I witnessed countless acts of generosity and compassion. For example, today the facility distributed an abundance of quality clothing to clients. Priority was given to those who arrived with nothing, and after everyone in need was taken care of, there were still enough clothes for others. It was just one of many examples of how Gateway genuinely cares about the people they serve. The facility itself is clean and well maintained. The beds are comfortable, clients receive three meals a day along with a snack, and the overall atmosphere promotes healing and recovery. While anyone can find something to criticize about any organization, I found very few, if any, faults with Gateway Chicago. My overall experience exceeded my expectations. I am sincerely grateful to the ownership, the corporate leadership, and every member of the staff for the hard work, compassion, passion, and dedication they show every day to individuals seeking recovery. Most importantly, I am grateful that Gateway helped me regain peace of mind, hope for the future, and the serenity I had been missing for so long. I wholeheartedly recommend Gateway Chicago to anyone seeking treatment. Their commitment to helping people rebuild their lives is evident in everything they do, and I will always be thankful for the care and support I received there.
Great place to go and have some good staff members. So thankful for the experience and gateway fot saving my life. Highly recommended. Some people come just to get a certificate. I came and earned mine with all the… knowledge they had. So thankful to this program. I was hesitant at first but glad I came into the program.
If you don't like gateway you really just don't like yourself and that just shows you're in the right place to get the right start it's all love
Absolutely horrible. I was in an abusive relationship at the time and he was placed here for addiction. During this time I had expressed multiple times I did not want to come in to see him for family meetings as I was… actively trying to leave. They reached out to me to pleading to come as they felt it would be healing for him and helpful to his recovery for him to express his concerns with me with his counselor present. Being young and in a vulnerable position I agreed just to show up. Only to have the therapist at the time tell me basically that I was the problem and that’s why he was struggling with addiction and then allowed him to tell me that he had been actively cheating on me and seeing someone else while in this facility. I decided to officially break up with him after this exchange in the meeting and afterward he went on a mental rampage and they allowed him to check himself out and showed up to my house and assaulted me. I eventually won a restraining order against this man and have made a great life for myself while he is still a menace to society. I hope that woman has discontinued being a counselor. Shame on her for letting an active addict manipulate her into thinking he wasn’t the problem and it was everyone else around him. I hope you have better staff and regulations in place.
I just finished 21 day program. It worked for me . Place is dirty, stuff very unprofessional.
Gateway saves my life! The staff is the best of the best! The nurses especially Gwen couldn’t be better 🫶🏽
I really like the staff here. They're genuinely trying to help you. They have great programs to cope, manage and recognize what you need. I got really lucky because I had a group of strong, collective, beautiful women.… The only thing that sucked was it was winter and someone came in with the flu. It was the worse 10 days of my life and my medicine never came... Other than that I'm still sober and working hard at sober living and it's all thanks to this place helping me network out.
Best rehab there by far gateway offers all kinds of medical mental health stability to switch your classes up it's a very good program good food the counselors there go out either way Keith Reep was my counselor he did… everything he could to help somebody and went beyond this means everybody there you can relate and feels more like a family than anything with wreck you have weights pool basketball softball medical staff is great
In 1996 Gateway saved me , the 90 day structural in patient program was a real eye opener. Just want to thank all of you i pray for you y
This place turned my life around although some people were there using it as a shelter what they were doing was none of my business at that time because the focus was on me. Everything from the food, meetings, nurses,… and even social activities were nice they really helped me stay clean for over 10 years now ❤️❤️❤️
My wife Kelly Smith is coming to Gateway, the Taylor Street location, within a week or so I hope this is a good place for her. Some questions I have if anyone is kind enough to please answer them for me: 1. Can she… bring in a vape pen? (Tobacco) 2. How do phone calls go? 3. How does visiting go? If I don’t have an ID, can I be denied entry? 4. Any helpful advice you have for me to help her adjust when she gets back home? 5. Any tips/ insider info you could give me to tell her to help her stay be more comfortable?! 6. What’s one thing you wish you brought to treatment but forgot? Anything you suggest to bring?? 7. In terms of female counselors, is there one who stands out as the best? Thanks you guys!!! Appreciate all the help and advice and if you see my lil girl Kelly in there be nice! LMAO😅😅😅👍
The zoom group i was placed in requires the simplest mind. Vent and get better. I cannot recover while listening to other people's problems, let alone glorifying my own. There is no structure and no facilitator lead… activities besides reading a copy pasted article about recognizing negative mental health attributes. Nothing is about recovery, just focusing on the bad.
I went to gateway rehabilitation and the food was good. But the best part of my experience was my counselor. Virginia Garcia was absolutely fabulous. She went above and beyond her duty for me. She made me feel at ease… and answered all my questions. She is lovely and kind. Ty Virginia.
I don’t like the fact that you can only send messages to certain people that option should be open to everyone
Awesome app
Gateway has helped me in so many ways
Great app
This is a great way to express myself using brief explanations with regards to Recovery
Food is good, staff professional, plenty of smoke breaks, clean and positive environment. Actually enjoyed my stay for the most part
The supervisor at the Chicago location on West Taylor named Kim needs to be fired. Talk about unprofessional, lack of empathy, and hostility. I called due to a family member, that was seeking help in their Chicago… facility on West Taylor, having some major condition and safety concerns and was trying to get transferred to another facility. When I spoke with Kim to help with the transfer information that I was given from another Gateway supervisor and brought up the reasons for the transfer request which was due to the sanitation concerns (boogers and feces smeared on the walls), resource concerns (the non-existent programs to teach people how to cope), and the fact that they have people getting high in the bathrooms (creating an unsafe environment), Kim decided to become very irate and stated "I'm not listening to someone from the outside regarding my facility" and hung the phone up without a resolution. In fact, she allowed him to contact another facility, but then hung the phone up once he started explaining the situation to the care representative that he was connected with. She then kicked him out of the program for going over her head to be heard and not just brushed off. Previous experiences with the gateway foundation at the Aurora location were amazingly excellent, however, this interaction with Kim and her unprofessionalism was tremendously unacceptable. As a supervisor of such facility, she is supposed to be there to help people, not dismiss people whom have been trying to gain help with the situation the entire day. I hope the foundation will look into this Chicago facility and make major changes within those walls so people can actually get the proper help in a respectable, proper, sanitary manner that any human being should receive.
