My daughter was being seen by Berkeley Mental Health at her school. Her medicaid was canceled without any notice to us. Berkeley Mental Health was aware of this and continued to see her charging her over $200 a session.… I now owe them over $1000.00. They should of known to at least contact the parents when a child's medicaid is canceled. I don't know how this is legal.
If zero stars could be given! This is absolutely the worst place to ever have to deal with. The provider that did my 12 year old's intake was great. Was shown the therapist he would be seeing at that time. Was told that… we would receive a call within a week to schedule that appt. That never came and I take full responsibility of not following up myself until I received a letter stating that we would be discharged from the clinic if we didn't come to our scheduled appts...THAT NEVER EXISTED! Called the clinic and they said someone would call...they didn't until two weeks after that. Was told that the provider was on medical leave and an appt was finally scheduled...for June! And when we got to that appt I was not the provider we were shown at the initial visit! Wasn't able to see the actual doctor until two months later in April (process started in January). Prescribed new meds for him. When the time came for my sons first refill of medication, wasn't told that he would have to come in before they would send a refill so at that point he was already out. Provider didn't send in what was asked but I thought I would try, even though it was way out of my price range. Called this time a week before he ran out of meds, but couldn't get in for a week so he was out of meds at the time of his appt. Told the nurse that I did not want ER meds for him because A: They don't work and B: They are very expensive. Told her what I would like to try him on because he did well on it, and as a parent you know your child. His rx gets called in yesterday at 5:30 ...and was not what I asked for but no one is available to discuss because its after hours. How convenient. Left a message for the RN which should have been addressed first thing this morning and nothing. Here we are on a Friday almost afternoon going into the weekend without medication....These people don't listen to anything you have to say, they don't care that you are out of medication and make the process extremely inconvenient. Absolutely would not recommend!
So far I’ve been pleased with the services my family receives BUT sitting in the waiting area is a HIIPA hot mess!!! They have no cell phone policy so people are talking on speaker phones, face time and playing audio… for EVERYONE to hear.
This place is horrible. The staff is very disrespectful and does not care about the patients or their well-being. This place should be investigated.
Horrible, and issues usually start at the top. Today just minutes ago I was made to feel unimportant when contacting Berkeley County Mental Health, to inquire about my meds. When expressing my frustrations, and other… situations which I needed assistance with, I was abruptly interrupted and explained, you can come in and sign some papers, I have other calls to make. AND THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SUPERVISOR, WORKING IN THE MENTAL HEALTH FIELD! REALLY? This woman is clearly there for a check, as she lacks, emotional intelligence, especially as it relates to empathy and the mental health field. This is why I already possess a BS in Pychology, and will be soon returning to school for a MS in counseling. So I can do my part in supporting those, most in need..Names, you guys want names?
Boy oh boy been dealing with this place for 15 years. Only place son can go as insurance ran out at 26 . Had him in hospital when he turned 26 they let him out because no insurance. I've done what they said to do. When… you're dealing with the mentally ill, you have to be careful and not trample their rights. I'm told if they say no then they can't do anything. Where is that helping when you know they are ill. I shouldn't even give you 1 star as this has been a vicious cycle. I'm now at a cross road. Mental illness is serious and mentally ill people don't always make good judgment calls.
no complaints my daughter luvssssss Ms. Jenkins she’s the best
a dr took my mother off her bipolar meds. that was fun.they also put her on meds that that was counterproductive. so after the meltdowns, we switched her to private practice. do not get me wrong, this is an important… service , THE COUNSLERS ARE GREAT. HOWEVER, BEWARE THE DRS CHANGEING YOUR MEDS! ALWAYS LOOK IN TO THEM!
Everyone has been nice here! No complaints
I love this place Berkeley H, they have helped me with so much I have nothing negative to say about them.
This is a terrible place to go for mental health services. The nurse Elizabeth Smith is the rudest person I have ever spoken to and has been very unhelpful overall and made this an uncomfortable experience for my child.… The school based counseling has been a better experience which is the only reason I wouldn't give this place zero stars.
And one star is way to much for this place.
They moved me from a Dr to a social worker with out telling me and jacked my billing to self pay and I have insurance. The social worker was nice but not what I went to them for. I had my primary care write my… prescriptions. So they took it on themselves to change my status.
Berkeley Community Health Center This place is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. The environment is nature outside and caring and nurturing inside. Professionalism is shown the moment you enter with friendly,… welcoming smiles from the administrative team and by experts such as psychiatrists, nurses, and counselors, who provide clinical services including services in Spanish. The Berkeley Community Health Center provides Mental health crisis services, case management, outpatient counseling and psychiatric treatment for children, adolescents, adults, and families throughout Berkeley county. These services are much needed in the world we live in today impacting our children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance. Prior reviews are just a sign of so much negativity in the world we are living in these days and there are so many unseen conditions affecting cognitive behaviors. With a clear vision and mission to serve our community, Berkeley Community Health Center, practices their values of respect, professionalism and commitment to quality in a world full of diversity. And, they do not discriminate or refuse services to anyone based on age, sex, gender, race, religion, disability, national origin, health status, sexual orientation or economic status. From past traumas and all my personal issues post covid I had to deal with not limited to the arrival of my mother in law- marriage crisis- to depression-anxiety and unseen illness-fibromyalgia.I was overwhelmed but I now I am so grateful for Berkeley Community Health Center I appreciate them so much for making me stronger and giving me the tools to continue my day to day life’s journey. A friend approached my husband with some family issues and my husband recommended mental health and my elderly mother goes to therapy in Spanish. Her anxiety has lessened and she has a better quality of life. For example, “If you have a scratch- you place a bandaid but if you experience a broken arm you go to the doctor”. Same with unseen issues or that feeling of being overwhelmed, I highly recommend Berkeley Community Health Center.
I am taken aback by the mass amount of very negative reviews. I went here for 2 years or so and I graduated therapy and their DBT program and I'm on medication management right now so I don't have to go into the center… anymore as all my followups are online. Every single one of my experiences here was phenomenal. I might not have felt like that in the very very early days of starting therapy, but they have helped me so so much everyone is very very friendly and helpful and polite and cares about you so I don't know what's going on with all these other reviews. The only downside I could say is with medication management that I'm on, I have had a new doctor a lot. So I think there must be a high turnover rate with their doctors otherwise that must mean I just scare every single one of them off and they push me onto somebody else but I've been assured that's not the case. The DBT program I cannot say enough good things about seriously everybody should get into that. I did 2 cycles and it has changed my life. Upon my very first phone call to make an appt, the earliest I could get was 3 months out so of course that sucked but I kept that appt. It was 2 hrs long and felt like a therapy session of its own. They really try to match you up with the best therapist for you based on that seriously in depth evaluation. I will forever appreciate my experiences here.
I love when someone is having an emergency that they don't send actual help, just a pre-evaluation person. Then if that person will say "oh not a danger to themselves or others at this moment" so they do nothing and… leave... All while the person is having a full mental breakdown
A absolute nightmare of an experience for our family. We were hoping and praying for our teen daughter to receive the help she needed. After the expensive intake/evaluation, our requests were ignored and follow-through… for homebound paperwork required for school was never completed. At that time we moved to find therapy elsewhere. Even after this, they took money from our state tax refund even though we have insurance! When I called to inquire, they only said my insurance was not on file with them and that there was nothing I could do because insurance doesn’t back pay for 2 years ago. I’d give this place less than a 1 if it was possible. Please seek assistance elsewhere!
The absolute worse place I've ever been to for therapy. I DO NOT AND WILL NOT RECOMMEND.
The negative reviews are not lying. Avoid this place if you are able to. The psychiatrist doesn’t listen or read charts. They will try and prescribe medications that your child has had adverse reactions to in the past,… They refuse to check medication levels that need blood draws which can be lethal if dosages are not right, and when you ask for a second opinion they will go so far as to make false DSS reports even when you have evidence showing they are lying. They will then tell you that you are lying about diagnosis and accuse you of wanting a sick child with 12 years of records and psychiatric reports. As I said protect your children by not utilizing this facility.
This place is amazing! Christine is awsome! she is amazing she will make sure you have a clear head when you walk out her office!
Absolute worst place to get therapy the lady at the front counter absolutely rude I went up to check my appointment. I got here at 9:00 its 11:00 and I still haven't been seen I'm just going to cancel my appointment… honestly this is ridiculous god forbid I was in a crisis and left to do something to myself these people wouldn't help it's sad, if you have the option go somewhere that'll actually help you
Every employee was incredibly rude. Not only was the environment behind the counter hostile, but I would even call it toxic. This is supposed to be a place for mental wellness? I left with my niece and immediately made… her an appt at my psychiatrist. I don't recommend this business, and actually think it should be investigated seriously.
Completely awful place to deal with. They do not care if your child is out of medicine that they have been taking for over 2 years! We were handwritten 3 months prescriptions because their system was down and when it… was time for the 3rd paper prescription to be filled the pharmacy said it was expired and now this office refuses to do anything until her appointment that is 10 days away! If I could give zero stars I would!
I’ve had good experiences with Berkeley Mental Health. The staff and counselors have been kind and genuinely try to help you. The only reason this isn’t a five-star review is because like most state funded programs,… they are understaffed and it can take weeks, sometimes months to get an appointment. Especially if you are a horrible time manager like myself and miss an appointment.
Went to 4 sessions before they gave me any indication on what I'd be paying, then refused to sit down with me for the next 9 months to set up a payment plan. They scheduled me for appointments on everything but the days… i had set as available, had to "reschedule" for 3 months with never any notification except the day before, and kicked me out of the program because they wouldnt talk to me.
you know 600$ out of pocket self pay for a psycatrist 1 hour appoint(literally 30 minutes) TAKE YOUR HEALTH SOMEHWERE ELSE THEY WILL WAIT ALMOST 4 YEARS AND CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT PURPOSELY BEFORE 3 YEARS AFTER NOT SENDING… A BILL IN THE MAIL TO BYPASS THE SOUTH CAROLINA CREDIT COLLECTIONS ACT OF THREE YEARS! BE CAREFUL AND LAWYER UP!
I was once a patient there and they closed my case after I rescheduled my appointment for March 8, 2022 then comes that day I called and was told my case had been closed; it left me in wonder and I was furious.
