Genesis Counseling Center – Collingswood

I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially if you have a full-time job or work in a management position where your schedule isn’t flexible. The scheduling process is unrealistic. Instead of working with… clients’ availability, you’re expected to attend every appointment only when the counselor has openings. If you can’t make those times because of work, or just life in general, you’re threatened with discharge or simply just discharged from the program. Life happens. Cars break down, caring for your children, and unexpected emergencies come up. Rather than working with you through those situations, they make it feel like any disruption is your fault. There is very little flexibility or understanding when real-life circumstances affect your ability to attend an appointment. However, if they need to cancel or reschedule one of your appointments because of staffing or scheduling issues on their end, that is treated as perfectly acceptable. Unfortunately, that same understanding is not extended to their clients. Another major issue is the extremely high turnover rate among counselors. It feels like you’re assigned a new counselor every other month, making it difficult to build trust or receive consistent care. On top of that, there is only one substance abuse counselor, so his schedule is completely packed. Rather than providing reasonable accommodations, clients are expected to rearrange their lives around the program’s limited availability. Treatment should support people who are trying to maintain employment, care for their families, and improve their lives—not put their jobs or recovery at risk. If you work, especially with a fixed schedule, or have responsibilities that require flexibility, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for treatment.

They require too many days per week, than functionally possible if you have a job and are a single parent....I don't know if I'll even return...just seems like they want to get $$$$ Also I want to mention that the… parking lot is very small and awkward, talk about panic attack. And the office is not handicap friendly (lots of stairs). When you enter the office, there is a flickering light that made me extremely uncomfortable. The whole place is just it's own realm of anxiety in my opinion anyways.

I was xferred here bc my counselor in Marlton was leaving. They put me w/ Zandra. After 2 sessions she said the Princeton House was better suited bc I'm suicidal. Zandra discharged me without checking if Princeton could… take me. They could not and since I was already discharged l, Zandra said I couldn't stay w Genesis. So now I have no therapist at all and I could use one right about now.

Worst program I ever went to ,they don’t care for clients at all wouldn’t dare to recommend this to anyone!!

I don't really know how much is true or not but I do know that I don't need to be seen by 2 substance abuse counselors. I go to my counselor than they want me to see theirs 2 I just don't get why???? like wats the… point???

They will keep you in their substance abuse joke of a program way past an acceptable amount of time. Was there over 4 months, never once a positive drug screen and still they couldn't give me any idea of when I'd be… able to be finished. Place is dirty. Unprofessional. Trying to grab all the insurance money they can. I highly recommend finding another treatment program than this joke.

My son entered the EIP program through Genesis in Collingwood. Mrs.Latonya is BEST COUNSELOR WITH THE KIDS. MY SON LOVED IT. In the beginning it's was crowded and my son was nervous, but she made him feel comfortable… and he started opening up. He interacted with other children in the group. Mrs. Nadiya was also very involved with the kids and did A WONDERFUL JOB with there session groups. Mrs Latonya Hopkins assignments for the children made them excited to come back week after week She A HUGE ASSET TO THE COMPANY AND TO THE CHILDREN. I WOULD RECOMMEND ANY PARENT OR SCHOOL Refer their children to Genesis in Collingwood Mrs.Latanya Hopkins and Mrs Nadiya are what families like mine needed.

I am attending the Genesis Counseling center program with a family member and the truth is that they have treated us very well, we have felt very welcome.

Every week, my daughter has been attending the group where she is learning about life decisions and their effects. She has also learned that there will always be repercussions if she picks the wrong road.

The counseling session with Latonya was really helpful. Since we’ve been going to these counseling sessions my son’s confidence is up & he's been doing a lot better in school.

I'm attending Genesis' Early Intervention Program for substance abuse with a student from the school where I work. I am thoroughly impressed by Ms. Latanya who runs each week's sessions. She has a true gift for really… helping parents and their children to speak honestly and hear one another, paving the path toward better communication and decision making in their lives. I love that Genesis offers this program as a wake up call to students who need it.

Mothers matter and genesis counseling teamed up to adopt my family and make my kids Christmas great. The staff was amazing the experience was unforgettable

I meet with Latonya Hopkins a few times and she is very opening and is willing to do anything to help young adolescents struggling with addiction, they also provide any resources

i love Ms..hopkins shes really good at her job without her i don’t know how i would be at the place i am in life !

My son was sent to Genesis collingswood via his school to attend ten week early intervention program. Without counselor Latonya I would not be where I am today with my teen son. Latonya is real, caring, transparent,… educated, and has that genuine touch that opened up my son. Latonya truly is a gem & I would highly recommend Tuesday evening group program with her if you struggling with your teen. Latonya has truly helped with understanding vaping & substance with my teen. Also, Latonya is very relatable & truly cares about teens learning now as a teen. She is truly a gem & if I could give her ten stars I would she truly is an amazing counselor. Ms.Thomas

This place will leave you worse off than you even thought you could be. I used to go here pre-covid and it was pretty good. Went weekly for 2 years. I don't know what happened when they re-opened. It's like no one was… left and the people who are there couldn't care one iota about anyone or their issues. Did an intake and just asked if they had group therapy in case I chose to go that route. Come to find out they sign me up for anger management and group support. I didn't know. I missed the first regular group meeting and the intake guy called me to ask me why I missed and then scolded me as if I were a child! I ended up going to the 2nd one because I was told if I didn't, I wouldn't be matched to a therapist for individual therapy. Guess what? I WAS THE ONLY ONE THERE!!! I couldn't even leave. They put me in a room with an intern who very clearly had no idea what she was doing. I told them I am a single mom who just got out of a domestic violence situation and they told me that if I didn't go to their anger management program, that I would be discharged! It was in Mt. Laurel and I had no child care. They didn't care. They discharged me. It was hard enough to reach out for help and then I get to deal with this. Don't even use this place as your last resort. I guarantee you'll end up worse off than when you started.

I wouldn't recommend anyone here who needs help. This place has their own agenda, doesn't feel helpful or productive. I am diagnosed bipolar with PTSD. Have been treated for it for over 20 years with medical proof. They… DID NOT want to acknowledge it, discuss it, or admit I had it. They wanted to claim my treatment was for anxiety and depression only. Therapist was 30 minutes late for our appointment. She tried to play it off as if we made to appointment for the time she arrived.... She didn't seem to understand or care about what I was talking to her about. Her plan to help me with the issues I mentioned was something that would not at all help with the current issues I spoke with her about. It didn't even make sense that she would recommend what she recommended. The person did not feel qualified or knowledgeable. Too inexperienced maybe? The place is very discriminating towards the disabled as well. Stairs at every entrance and office. No ramps. Their handicap spaces are hand painted and not big enough to fit vehicles. The entire ordeal was Very insulting. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

My son and I have been going to this counseling program for 6 weeks now, and when I tell you that I am so proud of my son for opening up with his communication skills with others, my son was not one to participate in… anything group wise but by the 3rd week in, he started to participate with the group, and I owe that all to Ms. LaTonya and Ms. G. I like the fact that they tell it like it is, they don't sugarcoat anything, because this is how the real world is and these teens need to be ready and know that there are consequences for any bad decisions that you make. I even learned a thing or two, good and bad, going to counseling. I do look forward to the next few weeks to come. This program is a good start. Thank you

This place excepts you to jump for them any time they call and if you have to cancel due to a family emergency they discharge you. Very unprofessional and so called policies need to be relooked at. Stay away at all cost… they are a waste of time. They have no respect for those who work fall time and have a family.

Terrible place. They refused to give me the help I needed. I asked for individual counseling and they said I had to do group therapy. They made me do an intake for nothing. And told me from the first call that… individual counseling I can do. Then after the intake the supervisor calls me and tries forcing me to do group therapy. And she was extremely rude. If i could give a zero i would!

Do you have issues in your life and didn't think they could get worse? Well, Genesis will surprise you. They'll make you feel even worse than you did before - so at least you'll feel better once they dismiss you from… their practice (for not answering their calls immediately, but never ever getting your multiple voicemails). The psychiatrist spews incorrect information, is demeaning, and very rude. Constantly cut me off as I try to explain, then yells that I should have said so a sentence later. Prescribes serious medications willy nilly, with FDA BLACK BOX WARNINGS, but lectures on her unwillingness to continue to prescribe Adderall, a medication I have taken for years. Serious issues with the medication she prescribed? Worry not! She'll double the dosage. Had suicidal thoughts, and a litany of other issues, due to this medication whereas I had none of those before. Stopped taking that medication and feel loads better. No one answers calls. If you show up on time? Good luck. They'll wait a few minutes to answer the door, sign you in, and have you wait in a dirty waiting room. There isn't a TV, but usually a woman leaves her door open where she loudly gossips with a coworker about their patients. No, they're not reviewing issues and getting professional feedback - they speak like mean teenagers about patients who are going through legitimate crises. Oh, now you're getting called back. First order of business? Getting scolded for being late. (Though, I wasn't always on time and had been 10 minutes late a few times // yes, a large part due to the aforementioned medication). On to the therapy! Oh? You're just talking to yourself with zero constructive feedback?? You realize the therapist zones out after asking each question. What in the musty, immature, and rude world is happening here? Save your time. Save your money. Save what little sanity you have remaining. Adopt a dog. The dog will be kinder and more likely to offer some kind of feedback.

Never been to a counseling center like this. The dr is VERY disrespectful and had disregarded and argued my concerns regarding my health. So disappointed.

So far so good. Some things aren't as great as they could be, decor and reception, but the therapy is quite good.

Dropped me from their program after spending 5 months making headway and good progress. They are very peculiar about what clients they take on and simply defer you to other clinics if you don’t suit their criteria. I’m… very disappointed how they treated me here.
