John Brooks Recovery Center – Mays Landing Detox and Rehab Services

The register shows John Brooks Recovery Center – Mays Landing providing detox and residential treatment. Supervised withdrawal comes first, with the greatest danger in the opening seventy-two hours. A proper assessment sets the level rather than leaving it to guesswork, and it is worth asking for one explicitly.

Combined treatment is not recorded, which is worth checking before committing. Approved medication is paired with counseling and regular review. It is worth asking how many hours a week the program runs, because that decides whether it fits around everything else.

This place sucks. The communication is horrible, I called 15 times trying to get an update on my father and left 5 voicemails. I received 2 call backs, and neither person was able to provide me with any information… about how he was doing. The only kind person was Rob who tried his best to give the extension numbers he thought would help, but of course just got sent to voicemail. I was told that the only person who could provide me with any meaningful information was the counselor assigned to my father, that would be Nikki. I left Nikki 3 separate voicemails and never received a single call back. Zero communication, reassurance, or help. Actually horrible. My father did not get the help he needed. He stated it was nothing but arguments, fighting, terrible food and no help. Don’t recommend this place at all if you want your loved ones to succeed on sobriety and recovery.

My son was here in the recovery court program , John brooks violated him for refusing to go to a religious based meeting so he sat in county for a bit ..finally saw the judge and whoever was there representing John… brooks lied told the judge he was threatening and argumentative with staff ..are you people trying to help people or making their lives harder for trying to get help? Thankfully the judge saw thru it and released my son ..find it really hard to swallow that a program designed to help people would purposely try to sabotage them

Most of the staff are decent and kind people, but their are a few vindictive and cruel rotten apples that treat you as if you are an inmate and not a client who came to them seeking help, specifically a nasty women… named Diane who took joy in making patients lives harder, she is a sadistic women who you could quite literally see holding back a grin anytime she had a power trip. She is a dishonest and rude individual if you ever find yourself at this facility(i hope you don't) steer clear of her. Also a nurse named LaFatima tried to deny me my medication for absolutely no reason other than that she didn't like a comment i made to one of the techs that wasn't directed at her at all and she kept telling me to calm down when i was calm I have 4 witness signatures including 2 staff members, also the director Tracy also needs to get it together the schedule was changed literally 5 times while i was there and everything was so discombobulated the clients suffered as a result from missed smoke break to missed gym session and everything in between . Other than that Nikki was lovely, Khadija was very kind, Brandon, Queen Shanay and Sandy are great people and Dave, Meredith, Vince and Isaac as well as a few others whose names I cant remember right now were also very helpful.

John Brooks Recovery Center allows NA H & I to be a part of the community Recovery, I Love that because once you get Clean the Clients know to attend NA when they get out! They should go to a NA meeting the first day… out of treatment and get a NA Sponsor and a NA Home Group! They should work the 12 Steps with their Sponsor and Live this New Way of Life! You have the disease of addiction and you’re not getting rid of it! You might as well Surrender! We teach you in NA how to live with the Disease of Addiction!

I have helped many people get into treatment at many facilities, in many states. The feedback from a client that has been to numerous places tells me how unprofessional the staff are. They seem to be there for the… paycheck and to hang out with one another. The techs (BHT’s) seem lazy and like it’s a hassle to do simple things that are normal job requirements. Unfortunately the clinical staff doesn’t sound much more competent as the client has been there over 3 weeks without meeting with a counselor. It is sad when someone is desperate to get help and change their life for the better, but given terrible conditions, no real direction, no assistance with aftercare after being in treatment a full month. Long term recovery depends on continuing care, after care, suggestions to go to AA meetings a Recovery house find local support etc. But this place doesn’t seem to care to direct the client in this manner whatsoever. The groups led are not very informative and quite bland. I genuinely hope for the clients that new head clinicians step in and change this program for the better. They desperately need GOOD BHT’s!

I was discharged 3/31/2026 and I was told my black coach purse wasn’t on my property sheet. The nurse herself said she saw me walk in with it. Then a woman name Nidia (could be misspelling her name) said they DID see me… walk in with my bag and it must have been misplaced and they’re investigating it. I had to call the police and file a report for my own records. If you ask me my bag was stolen. I’ve never had this happen to me at any rehab before. Then a woman name Lauren a recovery coach gave me her number and told me to reach out to her or follow up with john brooks blah blah blah. I texted her and her response was that they’re still investigating. Then my last message never said delivered so I had to send as a text message so i’m assuming she blocked me. I had pink exfoliating gloves that I brought with me as well and those are missing. The nurses are downright rude and from the street (not all of them) One nurse pulled the blinds down as i’m sitting in front of her, and told me to get off “her” line and she with be giving me my meds ……the meds the doctor put in for me. She then proceeds to say “you won’t be getting your medication” I told her I bet I will and guess what? I did. I wrote a grievance on her. Vincent the bald head tech is very rude. They have no manners and don’t know how to deal with people suffering with not only addiction but mental health. He tossed my vape onto the counter, I kindly removed my vape out the box and tossed the box on the counter the same way he did. A patient came out and told me he said “and you not gonna tell her anything about it either. Tracy the “self proclaimed “supervisor is nasty so it makes sense why the rest of the workers are the way that they are. Be very careful of this place. I made a comment about sexual intercourse going on in the facility and counselor Nikki who is useless immediately got defensive because I interrupted her bs gossip with Vincent. This place needs to be investigated. I called the state while I was waiting for a response about my bag. It’s been a week and I still have yet to hear from anyone. Cops told me if they can’t find it they’ll send me a check, can’t believe a word they say!

Staff is decent. Food is decent. Besides the fact that I knew people in the detox unit were still using, they helped me a lot.

SO I was in detox here at john brooks & I loved it . You have tvs in your room & its 2 other rooms that also have tvs , the food was ok not to bad. Only thing I didn't like about this place was the staff & nurses. Some… were soo unprofessional. THE staff Cory i heard her talking about me to another staff about something that was none of her business , & the other staff she was a Muslim she talked about me to other patients & they told me just all around staff always got attitudes & them nurses omg I never seen so many ppl who come to work & always got a attitude. The nurse lafatimah was soo unprofessional , rude , bc of how they acted i wouldn't refer that place to my dog. Ppl come there to get better and shouldn't have to deal with the pettiness that goes on there.

John Book’s Recovery Center in Pleasantville is extremely unorganized. The staff never seems to know what’s going on, communication is terrible, and nothing runs on schedule. Every time I reached out for information, I… got different answers from different people. It feels like no one is properly trained or in charge. I expected professionalism and support, but ended up with frustration and confusion. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for reliable care.

I was here for over a month. Completed the program and when I left they couldn’t find my belongings I came in with. Someone clearly steals your stuff I’ve heard of this happening but it’s unreal to me how easily it’s… done and covered up also! They said they looked at the cameras and couldn’t see anything but I could put in a grievance lol we all know where that goes from there! Just insane to me that you go in to get help and they take advantage of people when they are going through a hard enough time as it is! Seriously ! Tighten up! Half of the staff were rude as hell and I wanted to literally snap on the kitchen workers everyday they should find a new job but maybe that’s the problem they can’t! Acting like they are chefs when all they do is heat up processed foods 🤦 lord help em! If you or your family members, friends go here be aware ! Honestly go somewhere else! I heard this place was good and it’s sad because there are a handful of good people who work there but it’s overlooked because of all the pettiness and nonsense that all the others do! I just hate that they literally take advantage of people at a low time of their lives. Heartbreaking really ! Shame on you JBRC!

I was recently at this facility to get off my prescription xannax and upon getting there all of my belongings were misplaced? Stolen or lost !!! Regardless I lost all of my belonging in the intake process the security… person me love looked at the cameras seen it takin in to a room and never come out … he said he would look in to it and promise me he would figure out where a huge thrash bag was missing some how he gave me his word he would find it after yelling st me and telling me I was lying. This was the only reason he even looked in to it . We seen on the camera thay I came in with all my stuff taking away from me and never got it back ??? The director Tracy spoke to me after a week almost I started to get very upset . She gave me her word they would find this thrash bag filled with my belonging including a whole barber bag with my clippers it’s been niw almost a whole month in the 17 th . I been calling daily or every other day since ! Tracy the director gave me her word rhis would be handled . It’s sad when other employees tell me this happens all the time and to call a lawyer because they won’t take responsibility for there unprofessional wrong doings . I guess I have to do what I have to to get my things back or compensated . This is why I made sure to cover my self by the steps I took. Little do they know they won’t be able to deny what they told me and they will see when they see . Don’t go here it’s a sad place niw it was beautiful few years ago but it got really really bad . Fights and stealing peookes stuff .

Awful . The “counselors” could care less about their clients, have zero interpersonal skills-and do not answer any inquiries from family members at all. This is more specifically directed at counselor Donna P. You… should seriously think about either entering a new career, or retirement. Absolutely AWFUL people skills and completely uncaring.

This place is all around rough for someone in recovery from alcohol. Drugs do get smuggled into detox and I had to witness someone I care about almost OD. In detox others I witnessed were either on drugs or clearly… overmedicated as I repeatedly had to help a girl from falling flat on her face. Otherwise detox was good but it was because of the person I was with as well as some of the staff such as Casey, she was awesome and I give her so much props for her care and hard work. Unfortunately between detox and transferring to short term I had a lot of my things go missing due to staff error or there isn’t an implemented procedure that everyone follows. 2 packs of my cigarettes went missing, cloths went missing, as well as a lot of my make up was gone. My suggestion if you choose this rehab for your recovery only take the bare minimum and things you don’t care about. Farah was a great counselor to me my only complaint is she seems mentally checked out of her job, she was really great at times for me but I wish she made more time with her for me to speak with her about my recovery. I also wish in group she didn’t follow the “lead” on throwing clients concerns back on the clients and would attempt to fix the clear disconnect of trust from clients in the institution itself. She would be one of the best counselors I’ve had if she worked on that. She has such a great personality in making recovery possible if she utilized her talent in how she stands for her opinions. Erica was good too I just could tell she was young and getting a grip on things but she was the most actively involved counselor. Donna is another counselor that I believe could be phenomenal if she didn’t allow arguments with clients to interfere with her beliefs. Her meetings were a learning experience which you don’t find in counselors ever. She focused and taught about options in recovery. I hope she knows how meaningful that is for when times get tough with clients as a lot of us were never given “a” opportunity and she gave “opportunities.” I really liked Donna out of all the counselors honestly. She was the most relatable. If Donna does read this I want to just ask that she tries to fix the distrust in between clients and institution. I could see passed the anger it’s just a lot of patients are unwilling to do so or they simply don’t see that. You would be so great at making that link between the disconnection between client and institution. I want to also give a shout out to the African American lady with the cute bob haircut and Jess the girl with different colored dreads; I thoroughly appreciate you guys. Jess I appreciated the hugs especially when I was hurting. It got me through honestly. You really are a very good person so is the lady with the bob I’m sorry I don’t remember your name. You were tiny; shorter than me but thank you for caring. Also I appreciated Sherwood asking me how I was doing everyday; making sure I was ok. Sorry dude but I still love Randy lol and with all the other counselors and staff that love wasn’t going to be stopped. Look for the green stone in the courtyard if it exists cause I want it back. Also maybe put a “mailbox” for connecting with clients cause that is more comforting honestly to not feel so alone in that place. I get it’s against “recovery” but you’d be adjusting clients to the real world because women are going to talk to men. Might as well teach women how to be treated well cause I’ve noticed a lot of women in recovery don’t get treated too good. Otherwise this place I felt like I had to survive more than focus on recovery. I did not want to get involved with problems yet that was inevitable I just constantly felt like I needed to choose a “side” to be on. It’s toxic.

Do not go here , they steal from you not only did I have my air pods stolen when I had my belongings dropped off but happened to other people as well, they keep you inside besides 4 smoke breaks , the place is filthy… and mismanaged, kitchen staff is so rude as well. The “counseling “ is a joke, you either watch a movie for an hour or spend most of the time on a handout that the counselor gives you, only three meetings a day plus a AA meeting and they rarely have a speaker so we are left unattended in a room to do our own meeting where people just sleep and everyone there is either there for a court case or homeless and just want a meal and a room no one wants to get actually get sober , after your “meetings your locked in a unit where everyone just watches tv. It’s a joke. THEY STEAL YOUR STUFF!

I was there for about seven weeks. The staff was amazing. The food was good and the place was clean.

Do not go here as a female. I showed up on a Thursday & there was 1 group that was run by 2 of the females in the program not H & I or a clinical staff member. Then we sat around all night & watched tv. Then the next… morning they woke us up at 6:30am to eat to which the woman fishing out the food botched the whole time we ate about giving food containers to the girls cause she never got the “word” from her superiors that this was allowed so we had to hear about it. Super unprofessional. Then we sat around & would watch tv for another 2 hours before we had 1 group then would sit around all the way till Monday with no groups at all till then. We watched drug movies the whole time & let’s not forget the tv show that was entirely about prostituting. I literally sat on the couch & watched more tv then I did recovery based things to once again be informed that Saturday & Sunday was even worse then this. I did more recovery based things in the detox I had just come from. It was such an awful experience & to hear nothing but complaints from the other girls about how this would get worse as the days went on had me in such a panic & gave me such anxiety. Then there wasn’t anyone to even talk to about this & how I was feeling for hours. I literally couldn’t believe how much sitting around was done at a program.

I was there as a Speaker for Recovery and the clients all have HOPE in their eyes. So this surely reflects this company.
