John L Norris ATC IP – Rochester Reviews and Ratings
Questions worth keeping in mind while reading John L Norris ATC IP reviews: Was the assessment explained clearly? Were costs set out early? Was there a plan for after treatment?
Accounts that address points like these are usually the most informative.
Checked myself in voluntarily and legally that means I can check myself out. This place feels like a jail, they do not try to help you in any way. I never saw a counselor. They don't tell you that you have to pay for… calls so i was unprepared and had to beg to call my kids. After violence and harassment from the other girls fighting with eachother and then an employee harassing me and not letting me leave I had to call the police to get them to let me out. They are lucky I don't sue. Trying to hold me involuntarily is illegal.
If I could leave zero starts I would have. Completely unprofessional. The doctor lied and replaced my meds with his own. The segregation of male and females is something out of the 1950's as is their "book" work. Their… "books" are a few floppy stale given work books that can be finished in a week. they have no kitchen so the food is literally mental hospital food. This place is atrocious.
The staff was extremely helpful and professional. I stayed for 28days. The food wasn’t the greatest but it was alright. There were classes offered that helped combat the depression and boredom. The rooms and Bathrooms… were clean. Anything that was needed the staff was sure to accommodate. I was able to connect with my counselor, whenever I need to. The only thing I would say was an issue was the separation between men and women. You are allowed to speak to the opposite sex at all not even a friendly hello. The women are escorted everywhere and housed in a separate area meanwhile the men could walk all over all day. One day I started doing my own calisthenics trying to exercise when I was told I had to stop because it was against rules for safety reasons. There was a schedule listed Every Morning with the going- ons of the day. Over all it was an enjoyable stay once I got past the initial Rude meeting of the director.
D B. Lied to me. She replaced my real Drs meds with her own with the promise that when I left id get mine back. A lie.
Only stayed for 5 days before leaving. Phone calls were only allowed to be made with permission from a counselor who was never available. Only met individually once in the 5 days there. Men and women were separated, but… it made things more uncomfortable than anything. Women are forced to be escorted everywhere in the facility while men are allowed to walk freely from room to room. Keeping women in smaller areas than the men and restricting mobility made the whole experience feel like a prison and was not therapeutic. Was told art classes were available, but upon arrival was told otherwise. Ceramics classes were canceled, despite have the materials available. Men were also receiving more opportunities for activities compared to the women. Some staff were rude and condescending. Especially considering the circumstances to wind up here you would expect to be met with more empathy rather than patronization. Hopefully they can fix these issues and offer a better program in the future. Some of the staff were friendly. The therapy dogs were awesome.
Building is cold in winter and hot in summer. Hospital grade food, not bad though. Bored me to tears
Rehab. Volunteered for an evening.
I sent my mother here for help, she checked herself out after 4 days. People screaming, no groups, no structure. This is not a therapeutic environment and would not recommend sending your loved ones here.
This place save my life and I will forever be grateful for the staff thier thank you
My son came back a changed person I give 5 stars!
This place was very unprofessional
This rehabilitation center took me in and completely overlooked many factors. I wasn't searched, I wasn't urine tested. I wasn't shown around nor given any daily living essentials such as toothpaste, deodorant or… anything for body care, not to mention shower shoes. I was shown my room by a client and I was then given food and my suboxone. Within the first week I had to find my counselor, and learn the schedule by asking clients. I wasn't given any phone calls or the opportunity to speak with my legal affiliation. I began doing my own workbooks to learn and work my program. AA provided me with reading material and a text book. NA did the same. The 'program' offered at Norris consisted of a lecture in the morning and a women's group following. Fellowships visited at night, in the meantime the clients.were left to a dining area and a bathroom with a small living area. The rooms were locked during the day and we were fed 3 times daily with a snack in between. There wasn't much direction or consistent counseling. I wasn't provided a treatment plan until 20 days in. My family didn't receive mail correspondence nor I them. The communication process with the public was nil to say the least. I also have discovered that my follow up care was compromised with communication after I was discharged. I'm extremely affected negatively by these actions. This place isn't for anyone in need of sincere help.
