Kern Medical – Bakersfield Reviews
Reviews of Kern Medical in Bakersfield from patients, loved ones and referring professionals are collected in this section, together with reviews gathered from around the web.
Parents of children with disabilities, please be careful with this hospital, especially if you are a minority or Latino. The care you receive can depend heavily on the nursing staff. I felt discriminated against and… threatened, and I did not feel that the well-being of my child was their priority. I initially had a very positive experience, but toward the end of the shift, a nurse who was unwilling to help came in and threatened me, telling me not to bother her because she was busy. I filed a complaint with the Department of Public Health. Unfortunately, I felt that the hospital defended its staff by providing misleading information and placing the blame on the parents instead of addressing the concerns about the care we received. If you live in Kern County and this is the only hospital available to you, please consider seeking care in Los Angeles if possible, especially when your child has a disability. No parent should have to experience discrimination, intimidation, or feel that their child's well-being is not being taken seriously. I am sharing my experience so other parents can be informed and advocate for their children.
Hello! My name is Ashleyanna, and let me tell you something about KMC, they are not a hospital that’s all about being helpful or caring for people. Invfact all they truly care about is how much money can they get out of… helping a patient? And that’s what truly is disgraceful to me and that’s what truly tells me what KMC is about, their management for pain is worse than I can imagine, their staff is rude and they really need to manage their attitude towards patients, that went through a lot within this hospital. But I wasn’t going to come on here and backlash on their hospital no I’m wanting to get justice for those that went through hell within this you so call “hospital” and as of for the delivery and labor section, you guys really need to find yourself a new reputation because if you truly hate your job why not go work at Micky D’s instead, If you hate it that much, I’m just saying. And another thing for those that really do have heart for your patients I’m truly grateful and applauding you. Keep up the amazing work that you do for this community but as of for those that really don’t, shame on you. I’ll be praying for you🙏🏼
It's the worst hospital, honestly, a very bad experience
I was scheduled for a C-section and I've been here since 12:32 pm and it's 5:38 pm because I'm considered a high-risk pregnancy and they're seeing other women who are perfectly fine. I understand the reason some women… come in with contractions, but the others are perfectly fine eating sandwiches the hospital provides. They need to do something about this; it's absolutely ridiculous!
I had my doubts about this hospital because of its very low rating, but I had my surgery here, and the staff were very kind and attentive.🤗
The absolutely worst ER service EVER. Our nurse is beyond rude. Don’t know her name cause she never introduced herself. For three hours, I have asked about seeing the doctor. I am told when the doctor has time. My… husband was airlifted here because his condition was that serious and they don’t have time. Thinking of leaving and going to a hospital that actually cares about people.
Some of the most unprofessional nursing staff I have ever encountered. Came in for a labor induction and asked clarifying questions about the safety of the baby/mother to understand why they were not inducing. Turns out… they were willing to be be unsafe with the baby and mother by sending them home when babys weight is in the 6th percentile and mother has a high blood pressure. Risk of seizure is extremely high and not to mention the mother lost her husband less than 4 days prior to induction date. 1) I was told to go to the medical records to get answers to the following questions simply because she felt uncomfortable i was writing down her responses: What is the abdominal circumference percentile? What is the estimated fetal weight percentile? Has the baby continued growing on serial ultrasounds? What are the umbilical artery Doppler results? Is amniotic fluid normal? Was the NST reactive? Was a biophysical profile performed? Is fetal movement normal? If your hospital has no bed, which hospital are you recommending we go to?
If I had given this review a few years ago I would have given it one star after sitting in the ER for 24 hours waiting for a referral that I didn't actually need. Cut to 4 years later I showed up at the ER in septic… shock. the admitting nurse was at first very rude because my son-in-law had asked her for a wheelchair because I could no longer walk. She followed him out looks at me and says " you really can't walk"?! I said no and basically slid into the chair. After taking my blood pressure and O2 sat. she got moving. I was rushed into a trauma bay and then asked a bunch of questions, blood draws, etc. The diagnosis? Septic shock caused by a kidney infection that was caused by a kidney stone that had blocked my right ureter. Then? It seemed as if everyone disappeared, with one or two staff coming by every once in awhile to look at a machine readout or to ask me something innocuous. It felt like I laid there for hours, counting my breaths because I could only get a good one every three breaths. Eventually I was admitted to the ICU. And I made a full recovery. What i realized later was that what was going on was that this was a part of a highly coordinated, time-sensitive protocol for critical patients. They SAVED MY LIFE. I was told, after I mentioned that if my grandson hadn't had a Dr's appt that day at kmc I would have been at my daughter's having a nap, that I probably wouldn't have woken up from that nap. When i first moved here, I was told that if I ever needed an ER not to go to kmc...UNLESS it was life threatening. I must say, they were right. Thank you to all who quietly allowed me to be here 5 yrs later writing this.
Do not come to this hospital. The staff here, especially the nursing staff, are very unprofessional, rude, talk down to patients, and liars. They act like they're too good to help patients and you're bothering them. You… will wait many hours for care while the nurses just laugh and hang out chatting with other staff. You will wait all day for help, and the help you finally get will make you feel worse. Do not come to this hospital.
Just had a blood draw and the girls were so gentle with me and sweet!
Worst hospital ever. Don't take anyone you love there. They do not care about your pain, and they take 4-hrs to do a 1-hr job.
This has been the most miserable experience I’ve ever had! My dr has been needing me to be induced due to my baby being big already n me being past my due date and the hospital never has any beds available! They have… you call all day basically begging for a bed to be induced and turn you away over and over again saying there is nothing they can do. Pregnancy is already stressful as it is and women should not have to deal with this !
Been here since 10pm it’s about to be 3 am and my sick 6 week old bby has not been seen but they have checked Vital 3 times because apparently that’s going to do anything please do better this is unacceptable especially… for a child who needs medical attention
Yeah probably one of the worst hospital stays ever. I understand this is a teaching hospital but the medical teams give mislead information the internal medicine team will tell you one thing while your urology team… tells you something different. Also 3 patients to a room is a potential health risk, not to mention the fact there is no patient confidentiality in those rooms as everybody hears everybody's business as there is only a curtain in between each patient. One TV for each side is crazy too because both remotes control one TV which can also cause issues between patients over who's watching what. Some of the staff especially the night staff were rude and acted like they didn't even want to help or do their jobs. Also don't agree with their 8pm no visitor's policy when other hospitals will allow family members to stay over night.
Our journey began with a surrogacy pregnancy, and due to high-risk factors, our insurance required our surrogate to deliver at Kern Medical. I’ll admit that we initially had some concerns based on what we had heard and… read beforehand. However, our experience ultimately exceeded every expectation. The labor and delivery turned into a very intense and emotional situation. Our baby had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and went into distress, requiring an emergency C-section. It was a frightening moment, but the medical team acted quickly, decisively, and with incredible skill. Looking back, we truly believe their actions made all the difference and may have saved our baby’s life. After delivery, our baby spent three weeks in the NICU recovering from respiratory issues, a staph infection, and learning how to feed. During that time, the NICU doctors and nurses were nothing short of extraordinary. They were compassionate, attentive, and endlessly patient—not only caring for our baby but also guiding us as new parents. They took the time to teach us techniques and build our confidence, which made the transition home so much smoother. What stood out most was how genuinely supported we felt. The team treated us with kindness and respect, and by the end of our stay, we truly felt like we had formed meaningful connections with them. We always felt that our baby was in capable, caring hands. Today, our baby is thriving, and we are deeply grateful. We have complete confidence in the care we received at Kern Medical’s Labor & Delivery and NICU, and we will always appreciate the role they played in giving our child such a strong start.
Extremely expensive and a staff said to me everything's expensive in life I would never ever go to this hospital again
Baby and birth delivery. I had always said Adventist health For everything and to deliver. However I was unable to go there this time but instead to kern medical. I have heard lots of concerning comments this place,… However REGARDING the BIRTH and DELIVERY I’m very grateful for. I had prayed the entire time but I know God did his will. Yes I did have to keep calling to see if a room was available for me to go in and induced.the staff specifically in that dept are the sweetest most wholesome people. I am forever grateful to every women that saw me they may not remember me because they see so many people but the impact and support even the emotional support and physical support I received while getting my epidural was wow. I truly have to say these are the most wonderful women the ones who help the patients and show much love and kindness to them goes so far 🙏🏻 thank you all God bless 🙏🏻 I write this to encourage every women to pray, giving birth its always scary but find some comfort in Jesus. Thank you kmc you have wonderful staff, I would definitely recommend this place
My wife gave birth here. All of the staff was great snd cared for us while we were there. Thank you so much to all of the nurses, doctors, receptionist, and cleaning staff. I appreciate all of you for looking after my… wife and newborn.
I was denied care at Adventist Health hospital the morning I went into labor unless I agreed to a repeat c section simply because I had a c section 20 months prior. They refused to admit me I was told I’d have to go… somewhere else if I wanted a VBAC. So I transferred to KMC by car while having contractions every 2 minutes and water already broken. I arrived at KMC around 11:30 AM and was met with nothing but excellent care. Every single person that helped me during my labor was extremely amazing and supportive and on board with what I wanted. Even the doctor at KMC stated nothing but facts and informed me that ACOG recommends 18 months between births for a VBAC and since I was 20 months out, I was more than eligible to achieve my VBAC. My baby was a successful VBAC and was born at 2:11pm that day. I cannot be more satisfied and grateful for the care I received. I would have been forced into an unnecessary surgical birth if I didn’t show up at KMC when I did. The care I received postpartum was also outstanding. Yes, this hospital is old and may not be as beautiful as the other hospitals in town, but please don’t count that against this place. The care is absolutely excellent.
Thank you ❤️
The staff were all beyond amazing and helpfu
The staff in the ER were very helpful and acknowledged every patient including a few homeless people who came in.
I had a very horrible experience here, will never ever again go here and I don't encourage anyone else going here for help. First when I arrived I laid in emergency room for hours, very sick, they came to me said I was… being admitted. The staff in ER are so rude, and lazy, don't care about patients, all they care about is themselves talking to one another, laughing, and ask a question they are rude and act as if ,"Why" I got admitted horrible, when I first got in to room I was ok walking and able to get up on my own. They came in gave me come kind of pill saying it was hydroxyzine, 4 hours later I get up to go to bathroom and I had to use a walker because having trouble walking, got close to bed and I fell and hit my head on a big thing and a nurse asked my caregiver one who was standing by mecehen I was walking why did she fall and what happn ed she said I tripped on chair that's a lie, she wasn't near me making sure if I start to fall to help me and I'm not sure why it so happened that later that night I couldn't walk but when I got there I was able to wonder what pill they gave me. So the hole time I'm here for they have a camera watching me. I as well couldn't get comfortable because they wouldn't give me my sleeping meds I was supposed to have so I tried to lay down at othercend or figure out how to get comfortable and a siren went off and a bunch of security guards came and held me down and they tied my hands and feet down I was like that for hours. As if I was doing something horri my wrong very unacceptable and can't believe they even do that at a hospital to anyone. It happened 3 times having to be tied down. They also gave me some medicine and mixed it with something else that wasn't supposed to be mixed with and it caused me to get very dizzy for 6 days. The nurses and doctors were rude, laughing amongst one another, if I needed help going to bathroom they took so long to come and help me. They wouldn't give me my meds when they was supposed to, took hours for them to bring them to me. This place is just horrible I don't recommend this place to anyone if I could give no stars I would...
I had the worst experience in this ER ever my son came in with severe stomach pain and the doctor call him but instead of check him out she told us give me a minute and start talking to a discharged patient for like… fifteen minutes , I had my son crying in pain in lobby... so unprofessional
