Tower Behavioral Health – Reading Detox and Rehab Services

Tower Behavioral Health – Reading carries a listing for residential treatment and partial hospitalization. Sessions follow a set timetable while people keep living at home. Which of these is appropriate depends on an assessment, not on what sounds manageable at the time.

My husband has serious delusions & mental health concerns. He was admitted on 302. He had dr.Chadry at first. I was so happy with this dr. He was tackling my gusbands issues head on, including me intreatment &… aftercare. I was so optimistic for a happy & healthy future. My husband didn't like dr.Chadry because he was holding him accountable & threw a fit until he got a different dr. He got "dr" chocker. She did a HORRIBLE job. She sent home a mentally unstable, angry, physically & mentally abusive man. She never contacted me or arranged a family session (like dr. Chadry wanted to do). She sent home a very unstable & scary man - so I wad right back in danger & torment. I also called & she hasn't returned my calls. This place can help IF you have a good dr!!!! She doesn't care & won't help you.

One of the worst mental health facilities. Do not let your loved ones be sent here.

This place is the absolute worse my son was sent here for treatment, instead all they do is chemically restrain him to the point he can barely speak, barely can eat, and is having medical complications due to amount of… medications. I have gone days without being able to reach anyone, despite leaving dozens of messages. The staff is extremely rude and uncaring, especially Dr. Kirsten he wouldn't even listen to my concerns. I have tried repeatedly to have my son moved, and they facility refuses, so I am currently seaking legal help. Please keep your loved ones away.

I just had an appointment and was very worried because I was getting a new doctor. I have been coming here for a year and the therapist Amy is wonderful. The receptionist are so kind and sweet and take their time to… work with you. Today I had my appointment with Dr Joshi and I think he is the most wonderful Doctor I have seen. He seems so genuine and let me ramble. Having more bad days than good is a challenge. When you have an amazing team of medical personnel that seem to be on your side and genuinely care makes such an impact on a person like me. I was told to go to a different facility but my family doctor is tower health so I came here because I thought she was great. I am so glad I did. It is 10 am and I have a new feeling of hopefulness. You are not dollar signs here, you are a person with a name who matters. You are given time to talk, time to vent, time to explain. You can ask questions and they are answered in a way I can understand. Don't get me wrong the past 2 interns I have had were amazing and I was so sad each time I had to say goodbye. This is a Doctor you want to move on with and not say goodbye to. (I don't know if you can do that) I feel accomplished this morning and like I have a plan. Thank you Tower Health for the people you hire. It matters. It makes a huge impact on people struggling in life. Thank you

Before anyone criticizes the staff any further here, please remember that this is now COMPLETELY separate from Tower Health, only connected by name. I wish I remembered most of the names in Unit 2 as 90% of them were… ROCKSTARS -- and some even had personal experience with mental health issues. Trust me, those folks are the best, because they'll relate to you in ways no general practitioner or therapist will. The staff here gets five stars, the facility does not. The building is NOT being maintained (it should not have the problems is has five years in), and the food is awful. Arcadia is not focused on patients and its obvious. To the Tower Health CEO who thought it smart to waste the systems money and buy hospitals it didn't need to do, thanks for leaving Berks County out to dry by pulling out of the Behavioral Health Hospital. This shouldn't still have the Tower Health name on it. These staff are working 12 hour shifts (technically common in healthcare), but often shorthanded. They aren't being given the tools they need. And for those saying they "talk negatively in the open about patients", the only time i saw that was when said patient was a PROBLEM for other patients, or just not cooperating with the plans that are developed. Sure, it moves way too slow and the fact there aren't 24/7 psychiatrists and therapists in the building is a problem for me. If Reading Hospital can have these available at 2am on a Sunday, a fricken mental health hospital should too!

Visit: July 2026 Succinct review: Poor management is clear. This place is courting lawsuits. More detailed: The people on the face to face end were an uneven split between 'super caring and committed' and 'doing the… bare minimum'. The good ones were great. The bad...? I have multiple medical needs as well as psychiatric. They confiscated my medically necessary meds and gave them back once approved by pharmacy. Not ideal, but I needed the sleep the fatigue gave me anyway Night shift nurses being unable to find one of my inhalers for me to take for the entirity of their shift? Less okay. Magically was found by the Day nurse. (Poor management, strike one). ADA is a thing. My cpap is a necessity. But if I want to go to bed at 9pm, and there is a nurse telling me "we provide that at 10 pm, bedtime" two nights in a row? Thankfully one of the good people Happened at them and it was fixed. But I shouldn't have to have been sobbing for one of nights before they unlocked it when I asked twice. (Poor management and training, strike) The floors in the cafeteria were consistently dirty and sticky from the previous meal, even at breakfast. I had a mild ankle injury while there. The nurses worked to get someone in to x-ray it with a neat portable machine as it still hurt two days after. I asked when I'd get the results because I was scheduled to leave soon and a nurse bit her lip. "I'm not sure. We're having trouble getting the order in correctly. It's not talking to the x-ray system, and if we can't get it to talk to that system before the scans are deleted we won't even see them" Strike ... four? Five??? I'm not even counting the fragrances I have sensitivities to. The case manager I met with didn't treat me like a person, either, but a problem to get off her plate. Never did see the scans. Released me with my meds... and not the meds they prescribed, and with no transportation to my pharmacy until I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms. This is why I lead with the short version: they're courting lawsuits.

Our family placed our trust in this facility during one of the most terrifying times of our lives. Our daughter was admitted because she posed a serious danger to herself and others. During her hospitalization, she… continued to display violent behaviors, including assaults on staff. Despite these ongoing behaviors, she was discharged back into our home. We repeatedly expressed concerns about whether she was truly ready to leave inpatient care and whether our family would be safe. Within one month of her discharge, she was hospitalized again after making a false 911 call, assaulting police officers, and making written threats to kill me in a journal that included images of weapons. The rapid deterioration after discharge raises serious questions about whether she was clinically ready to leave the hospital. As her parent, I cannot help but feel that our concerns were not given the weight they deserved. The decision to discharge her has had devastating consequences for our family, both emotionally and in terms of our safety. I believe Dr. Shirk's decision to discharge her should be carefully reviewed. Based on everything that has happened since, I do not believe the discharge reflected the level of risk she continued to present. I am sharing our experience so other families know to advocate strongly if they have concerns about a loved one's readiness for discharge. I sincerely hope this facility examines its discharge process for patients with ongoing violent behavior so that other families do not have to endure what ours has.

This place is the worst I ever been and I went to Three mental hospitals and that was the first one I was at. Food disgusting beds uncomfortable, kids rude and I was 14 at the time. The staff were nice but barely checked… in with me. The person who was my case manager and psychologist put me on an anti depresent I kept telling them it was the meds but they put me on another anti depresent. They didn't even listen to my parents or me. I basically lied my way out of them. People were arguing and fighting staff barley did anything about it. I was there for 2 weeks worse place ever. Don't go to this place go to Phil haven. And they made me wake up at 6 am even on the weekends. The other two mental hospitals were good accept for this one. A nightmare and it still bothers me to this day and it's been since 2024 November. This was a complete torture. 😡

Half of the outpatient psychiatrists here are a joke. I’ve only had two good psychiatrists here whose residency was up. Jaswin Singh and Tyler Fransico was amazing and the only ones who actually knows how to prescribe… medication. Half of them don’t want to listen to you or they make you feel stupid. left my last appointment in tears.

If you are here on a 201 - file your 72hr claim to leave treatment as soon as possible - Feels like a prison - Horribly understaffed - overcrowded - frosted glass makes it impossible to even look outside - 30 minutes… fresh air in 96 hours due to “staffing issues” - unable to effectively manage patients with accompanying physical ailments - horrendous communication between staff members, providers and patients - lost 7lbs in 3 days due to overwhelming physical pain making it impossible to keep food down - only useful person I spoke to was the chaplain and a supervisor after several layers of miscommunication regarding dismissal times (being told 4pm and not having someone show up until 4:50am the following day) - if I had stayed any longer it would’ve done more harm than good - would only recommend for the most volatile patients as you are likely to get lost in the shuffle otherwise.

I got out about a month ago and I just want to say for it being my first time admitted into a hospital I have to say I really felt seen and heard at tower . The staff was amazing especially Kiki, Mrs Elle, Andrew ,… mufasa, Mrs.V, and mr. Zabby . I honestly was really struggling around the time I was admitted but with all the support I was provided by the staff I got through one of the toughest times of my life and I will forever be grateful for everything the staff has done for me during my stay . I also just want to say if your struggling don’t be scared to reach out for help because I regret allowing myself to get as bad as I did and sometimes you honestly just need someone to talk to because it is very hard to go through tough times alone .

When the child tells the staff and caseworker that its her father that is the problem and they ignore her and refuse to involve CYS they are completely failing the patient. But that's exactly what they are doing. They… still want to send the child to her abusive narcissistic fathers house. These places are completely worthless and fail to fix any problems whatsoever.

one of the most decent hospitals in pennsylvania i don’t care what anyone says yes some staff are strict. the beds are uncomfortable but it’s not your home. if ur a 201 you’ll stay typically between 3-7 days sometimes… up to 14 if u a 302 its usually 14-28 days up to several months. i know someone who was there my fiance 5S. the staff are always nice and polite on the phone when i call they see how supportive i am the doctor is wonderful. yes some staff may say no to phone calls and that’s because they are in meals, group, sleep etc. or whoever was there didn’t sign a ROI to you. meaning u can’t talk to them or they can’t give u updates. by far this is one of the good hospitals in berks county and pennsylvania its self so many hospitals are abusive and cruel but in here you’ll actually get the help you need if u do good and mind your own business and be respectful and eat do daily activities and group and take meds if needed and makes end meet. Thank you Tower Behavioral Health for all the help you gave to my fiance. you guys need more appreciation than disrespect and untrue criticism and comments.

tower and health transportation has awful drivers. one cut me off. I almost crashed into the driver as I swerved into the other lane to stop me from crashing, into the other car they also swerved and was going very slow… then all of the sudden did the speed limit. i think they were trying to mess with me. You guys don't even deserve a one star I had to. Just to write this comment please if you're allowing driver to drive your equipment around make sure they know how to drive.

Horrible experience. I was here 3 years ago. Staff wasn't trained. They hired 18 year olds with no experience or education about working with individuals that have mental illnesses etc. Youth was heavily favored here… too by staff. If you were a older adult 45 yo or older you weren't treated very well.

Do not even bother - they are completely unwilling to help (and very unkind about it). I called because my daughter was in crisis. I was in DESPERATE need of help. Unfortunately, she currently has a broken leg and is on… crutches. Because she is in a brace and on crutches, they would not allow her there - they apparently can be used as a weapon. No offer for a wheelchair or any other option, just a flat out no - go to the emergency room. Seriously no wonder so many people have given this a 1 star review. Isn't this the type of place that should be especially kind and helpful - people are in full crisis mode. All I got was a very unkind receptionist who was not willing to help us at all.

APRIL 2026 UPDATE: I won’t go into detail however I was informed the state investigated this horrible place and found repeated violations occurring here! The state is now taking steps to correct all the wrong doing. I… truly hope they get an entire new staff that truly honestly and genuinely care for future patients. If I can give this place 0 stars that’s what I would choose. My son was just discharged today and had an AWFUL AND DISGUSTING experience. Please believe the negative reviews. They fake that it’s a good place due to the clean nice lobby however, when I went to visit my son the entire walkway was so gross and felt as if they were in jail. That probation bracelet look alike that the kids had to wear. They didn’t give my son his clothing to change into until the day he was discharged. On top of that they apparently “didn’t have the clothing”. I had a bag for him filled with appropriate amount of clothing and he only walked out with his the clothes he was wearing the day he got there. The staff didn’t care and were rude to the patients to the point that they themselves have nurses and staff quitting every week. BEWARE OF THE SO CALLED PSYCHIATRIST . Dr. Shirk. She never answered my questions and consistently told me to talk to the case manager. They only want to drug up the patients and made it seem like they wanted the patients to go crazy so they can keep them there. Every time I called, they would claim they would call me back and never did. When I picked him up, a young lady heard my complaints and said they did the same to her partner. On top of that, her partners discharge was at 10, yet she waited over an hour for her partner to come out. This is a warning for your loved one. I hope this helps future patients.

My daughter has been to this facility several times and is following with a Psychiatrist from Tower Behavioral health for her issue and has been put on several medications that have not helped her in any way. She was… fired from her job due to her last Physicalists that was my daughter is having a hard time with having an issue and not being able to get any resolutions has not helped. I have requested Genetic testing so we can find out what medications may be more suited to her genetic Makeup. Most the doctors act like you don't know what you are talking about when it comes to mental health issues. They seem to forget family are the ones who have live day and day and see the patient continue on a path that they constantly spiraling, I have serious doubts about this Faculty and will be looking into private sector for a better physiatrist

My daughter arrived there last Friday 1/16/26( 5 days ago) I have called numerous times daily , left messages on voicemails each time no return calls ! The only human I’ve been able to reach is the pleasant young ladies… answering my calls at admissions. My daughter keeps calling me asking if I’ve talked to anyone , tells me she hasn’t seen a doctor or case manager ( not sure if that’s true because she’s delusional) but I haven’t been able to get a return call either . I’ve dealt with a lot of facilities due to my daughter’s severe mental health issues. Normally I’m called within 24 hrs and asked about prior history , what have we been dealing with ! Without a release signed they can’t give me any updates, but I can give them back history! I would think they would want to obtain as much back history as possible to try & treat her in the most effective manner . I’m very disappointed, I expected better from Tower Health . Today I’ll be emailing the CEO ! Update : so after her being there for 33 days not once talked to a case manager. On 2/11/26 she was updated to a 304c, 2/14/26 taken to ER for wondering in & out of other patients rooms & being aggressive towards staff , I was on her release form from 2/10-2/17 never had a return call from case manager Claudia . 2/19/26 my daughter calls to tell me she’s out no place to stay , homeless….. she lied & gave them a friends address ! 2/21/26 I get a call she’s arrested …… but I guess Tower behavioral Health thought she was ok to leave 🤔🤔🤔🙈 Her 4th time in facility in 9 months, 12th time in 5 years ….. I’ve left messages after she was arrested & emailed !!!! Shameful how those with severe mental health issues fall through the cracks !

This is regards to the EDU (eating disorder unit). Don’t go. You’ll be worse for it. Unless this place is your only option, please don’t. The rules and mindset around eating disorders are more punitive, there is less… therapy than told, every staff member is too busy to support a crying patient, and other problems too numerous to list. Please, hiring more staff so that the program can be as advertised! You’re some peoples’ only option.

I absolutely hated this place. It was no help at all. The doctors were horrible I felt like they were just Guessing and couldn’t even explain what they were putting me on and why. Most of them, I couldn’t even… understand because their English was so broken. The classes sucked. They didn’t teach me anything that I didn’t already know. most of The staff Made me feel so embarrassed and uncomfortable! The first three days I was there they were giving me medication that I had no idea what it was. and it made me so tired. I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I felt drunk. I didn’t even see a doctor untill the 4th day! Then was told I was put in the wrong wing and transferred to a different wing. I signed myself in for a 72 hour, but was lied to and told that I will not be able to leave within 72 hours that the doctor will determine when I could leave And that if I did not participate in the classes that they would make me stay longer. Because of this place, I am now so fearful to ask for help from a facility! The food there was God awful prison Food is better than what they serve. I was held there for a little over two weeks in hell! If you have a choice, please do not choose this place

I encountered a little bit of difficulty for my admission, but that's the only complaint I have of the partial program. I had a very good experience here helping to work through my emotions and had a great experience… with my group. The therapists all have great character, and Milly, Leola, Esther, and Gabby all ran great sessions for our groups.
