Turning Point – Corbin Reviews
Reviews are where patients and families describe Turning Point in their own terms: the welcome at admission, the counseling, the planning for life after treatment.
Reading them is a sensible step before calling the Corbin facility. Writing one, if you have been treated there, helps the families who come next.
This is an awful place to send a child in distress. This place does in fact not help anyone you send there it makes there situation worse and makes there life a living hell. They take and take and bully people in to… submission or they was scared into being good and proper. Kids that are sent here are traumatized and are made scared of the world and bullied. They are made to say why they are there and some kids or teens might have tried to harm themselves in ways and they might not feel comfortable to say anything out loud. They asked kids or teens questions that they might not feel comfortable saying to them and most of them are lying and deceiving and not being truthful because they want to leave and they are mostly made to sit in a room and basically do nothing but color and play uno and watch tv and some kids might not want to do that so they become bored over time and become even more miserable. They don’t help kids at all with there problems because all they do is keep them away from a addiction and then they send them right back to it and that’s does not help at all with their situations and go right back to it. If you look at the other reviews of people , some kids are made scared of the world and can’t leave their parents side because they are afraid of people . And also frick Debbie
This place is wonderful very quiet setting clean calming area. The staff is very nice educated and goes by the book.
if ur kid comes out of here acting good it’s lowkey bc they traumatized and harassed them and they don’t wanna go back, i know from experience just send them to a normal mental hospital at that point
I was sent here for a week (I'm 12) and the director Debbie cussed in front of me and the other kids, she made us write papers if we got "disrespectful", she made us talk about why we were in there in front of everyone,… and even said something one of the girls said to her therapist at "group therapy" the staff was extremely awesome and caring people but it was hard to sleep, and they would wake us up extremely early which was hard on every kid. They make you shower EVERY SINGLE NIGHT which caused some kids to get burns, rashes, and some even scars. For me it damaged my hair and gave me a scar on the back of my leg.
I want to say that this place has amazing caring staff that had took time to explain things to me about my son that over ten years nobody had ever took the time to just talk and really care. The director is amazing… human with a heart filled with love and understanding. Her and the staffs goals was so clear. They want to be the place that any child no matter their issue just needs guidance that sometimes the school systems fail to do. So the first thing told to my autistic son was this is not a punishment. He had been having trouble making friends at school but he was comfortable he walked in and joined the other kids it was like in the first hour of being there he felt understood and I could see that his voice was going to be heard. Don't get me wrong my son has behavioral issues but I was told it wasn't is autism. The director helped me see what I had forgot bc of being told over and over my son was the problem. Please know that I read some reviews before getting there and was so nervous. But within the first twenty mins of being there I didn't feel so alone anymore. There is still ppl that cares and Turning Point is such a blessing. I thank you all for being such a help and helping me find my voice again so I can be my sons voice.
was sent here for a week and it did virtually nothing for me. my first night there a little girl i shared a room with crawled into my bed with me and cried and asked me what highschool was like, the staff panicked when… it was morning time cause she wasn’t in her bed and didn’t even bother checking the one right beside of it. a girl said the n-word at the dinner table and when we all got quiet the people watching us threatened us to tell. they let a girl with an obvious eating disorder work out after meals when she would cry over her plate. a woman came up to me and asked if i was the ‘cutter’- not to mention the way they dealt with my cuts was by taking a q-tip with neosporin and shoving it in the open ones and then covering my stomach with band-aids. days consisted of waking up at the crack of dawn, sitting down on the couch, playing uno and coloring. i was taken upstairs once for about 15 minutes my entire stay and then they brought me alone down into a room and told me that they were calling cps which did not help me and resulted in me moving out. meals were okay when certain people were working but certain girls would throw frozen food in the oven, overcook it, get mad when we didn’t finish. i’m substantially worse now than when i was before, and no, i don’t blame it on this place but it definitely didn’t help.
Awful treatment to children
Amazing place. Changed my sons life he is so well behaved now, we have no issues at all now. He doesn't even steal our money or punch holes in the wall anymore. I am so grateful for this place the staff was so caring… and informative. I'm so happy for my son his life is really turned around!!!!!!
My daughter who was 9 at the time was forced to go here. Supposedly they were going to help her. They bullied her, called her names, made her do push ups because she didn’t know the answer to a question, even while we… were there to pick her up they bragged about making kids cry. She told me during the day she did chores non stop. (They had movie night together, laughed, talked, except her.) At night when everyone slept she went to the bathroom & cried & said repeatedly “home home home.” She’s been home a while now. And now she’s 10. But since being there she’s terrified to be away from me & her father. She use to stay the night at friends & families houses. Now she can’t without feeling afraid. She refuses. She went from being a bubbly, funny, outgoing kid to quiet, depressed, won’t play with kids anymore. She asks permission for literally EVERYTHING. To eat, to go to the bathroom, to play with her dolls. She doesn’t sleep through the night anymore. She wakes up crying and scared. She stays in her room ALL the time and she use to LOVE going outside. They destroyed my daughter. She is NOT the same. 😔 I hate myself even though I was forced to send her. What they did has scarred her and traumatized her and it looks like it’s permanently. Please PLEASE don’t send anyone here. ESPECIALLY kids. They DONT help. They scar them. They belittle them. They make them feel worthless.
Terrible
My grandaughter was taken there by her mother for behavior problems I went with her today to pick her up,i was so mad by the time I left and6 hours later I am still mad the counselor there told my granddaughter in front… of me and her mom she was WEAK,i slapped that table n told her that her or nobody has the right to tell a 9 yr. Old she is WEAK, please don't take your child there tell them and show them how much you love them I told her my grandaugter was STRONG,this is the nice version this grandma lost all her religion and I am begging you not to take your child there,i don't think they deserve a star at all but in order to post this I had to give 1
