Rehabs That Take Behavioral Health Safety Net

Tennessee’s Behavioral Health Safety Net is a state-funded program that helps eligible uninsured adults get outpatient mental health services. People with a co-occurring drug or alcohol concern may find some related care available through participating providers, but services vary by provider, eligibility and level of care.Treatment centers in Tennessee listed on this page name the Behavioral Health Safety Net on their own websites. Before starting care, contact the provider to ask whether you qualify, which services the program pays for at that site, whether a referral or intake assessment is needed, and whether any fees or other costs would apply to you.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

What is the Behavioral Health Safety Net?

The Behavioral Health Safety Net is a Tennessee state program run by the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. It pays 15 community mental health providers to deliver outpatient mental health care to uninsured adults and to children aged 3 to 17 who cannot get TennCare.

Covered care includes assessment, individual, family and group therapy, psychiatric medication management, case management and peer support. Substance use disorder treatment is not part of the program.

State Funded Mental Health Treatmenthttps://rehabseekers.com/payment/state-funded/treatment/state-funded-mental-health-treatment/
Is the Behavioral Health Safety Net insurance?

No, the state describes it as not insurance and not part of TennCare. There is no premium, card or claim to file; Tennessee pays contracted community mental health centers directly for outpatient mental health visits given to eligible uninsured residents.

There is no out-of-network option, so care is funded only when a contracted provider such as Centerstone, Frontier Health or McNabb Center delivers it.

State Insurance Rehabhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/state-insurance/
Does the Behavioral Health Safety Net cover rehab?

No, the program does not pay for substance use disorder treatment. Its provider manual says so plainly: the Behavioral Health Safety Net funds outpatient mental health services only. Uninsured Tennesseans seeking addiction treatment are served by a separate state-funded program run by the same department.

Tennessee REDLINE, 800-889-9789, takes calls and texts 24/7 for addiction treatment referrals statewide.

The Behavioral Health Safety Net is a Tennessee state-funded program, run by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, that pays community mental health providers for outpatient mental health care given to uninsured Tennesseans. The state flyer is blunt about what it is not: not insurance, not part of TennCare, and no physical health treatment.

That wording matters for anyone searching for addiction treatment. The BHSN provider manual states that the program does not cover substance use disorder treatment services, so a detox bed, a residential stay or an opioid treatment program is paid for some other way. What BHSN can do is carry the mental health side of a co-occurring picture, which is often the part a household with no coverage cannot pay for.

This guide sets out what BHSN pays for and what it leaves out at each level of care, how enrollment works in place of prior authorization, what an adult or child pays, how medication is handled through CoverRx rather than a formulary, which Tennessee providers the state contracts with, and where to look for addiction treatment that BHSN will not fund.
