Rehabs That Take Behavioral Health Systems

Behavioral Health Systems is a name used by treatment centers in California to describe a payer or benefits administrator for mental health and addiction care. Depending on the arrangement behind the name, coverage for drug and alcohol treatment may be available, and benefits generally vary by plan, by network and by the level of care, from outpatient counseling to residential stays. Each center here lists Behavioral Health Systems on its own website. Because more than a single organization uses this name, check your member card first. Then ask the facility and the administrator about network status, prior authorization, referral rules and any costs you may owe before admission.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

What is Behavioral Health Systems?

Behavioral Health Systems, Inc. is a Birmingham, Alabama company founded in 1989 that administers employee assistance programs and carved-out mental health and substance use benefits for employers. It is not an insurance carrier and sells no health plans; it manages the behavioral health part of an employer's plan through its own PPO network.

It serves employers across the United States, requires a minimum group size of 500 eligible employees, and reports about 750,000 lives serviced.

Is Behavioral Health Systems the same as TELUS Health?

Yes. Behavioral Health Systems has operated under the TELUS Health name since December 8, 2025, after TELUS Health acquired the company in December 2024. Only the branding changed: portals, websites, user accounts, logins, phone numbers and contacts all stayed the same, and the legal name Behavioral Health Systems, Inc. remains in use.

The old behavioralhealthsystems.com home page now redirects to the TELUS Health US site, while the MemberAccess portal and provider directory subdomains work as before.

Who owns Behavioral Health Systems?

TELUS Health owns Behavioral Health Systems, with the acquisition dated December 1, 2024 by PitchBook. TELUS Health is part of TELUS Corporation, headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. TELUS also bought LifeWorks in June 2022 for about C$2.9 billion including net debt and merged it into TELUS Health.

TELUS Health has more than 10,000 employees, and its products reach more than 50 million employees of client organizations across 160 countries.

Behavioral Health Systems, Inc. is not an insurance carrier and does not sell health plans. Founded in 1989 and based at 2 Metroplex Drive in Birmingham, Alabama, it administers the mental health and addiction side of an employer’s benefit plan through its own specialty PPO network, handling intake, eligibility, authorization and claims. The medical and pharmacy parts of the same plan stay with the employer’s carrier.

That carve-out structure decides what the card in your wallet actually buys. An employer that purchases the Integrated MHSA Program gives BHS the whole ladder of addiction treatment to review and pay, from inpatient detoxification through outpatient therapy. An employer that purchases only the BHS ASSIST EAP gives it three to six counseling visits, after which the cost of treatment returns to the medical plan. Same administrator, two very different benefits.

BHS was acquired by TELUS Health, with a PitchBook acquisition date of December 1, 2024, and has operated under the TELUS Health brand since December 8, 2025, with the same phone numbers, portals and logins. The guide below covers which levels of care are reviewed and paid, where precertification applies and how fast decisions come, what employer plan documents show for cost sharing, how medication fits in, and how to find a program inside the network.
