Rehabs That Take Gateway Health Alliance

Gateway Health Alliance is a plan or network name given by treatment centers in Virginia. Coverage for drug and alcohol treatment through any such arrangement depends on the plan behind it, the provider network and the level of care, so readers should check the details on their own insurance card.

Virginia rehab centers listed here name Gateway Health Alliance on their own websites. Call the number on your card to ask whether the arrangement covers detox, residential or outpatient care, and whether prior authorization is needed. Before admission, ask the facility whether it is currently in network and what costs may apply.

Gateway Health Alliance is not a plan name any insurer publishes. In the research behind this page the word Gateway attaches to Gateway Health Plan, Inc., the Pennsylvania insurer that now does business as Highmark Wholecare, while the words Health Alliance attach to Health Alliance Medical Plans, Inc. of Champaign, Illinois, an insurer the Carle Health hospital system owned. Two separate companies, two separate states, and only one of them still sells coverage.

That split is the thing this page turns on. A card reading Gateway or Highmark Wholecare means Pennsylvania Medicaid or a dual-eligible Medicare plan, and there is a live benefit to ask about. A card reading Health Alliance means coverage that stopped on December 31, 2025, with the company closing every line of business the following day. Nothing in the record links the Pennsylvania plan to the Illinois one.

This guide covers what each half of the name points to, who owns the Pennsylvania plan and since when, which counties and programs it runs, who is eligible, what addiction treatment costs when no plan is paying for it, what Illinois members paid while their plans existed, and how to work out which payer to call first.
