Health Alliance Plan (HAP)

Rehabs That Take Health Alliance Plan (HAP)

Health Alliance Plan (HAP) is a Michigan health plan based in Detroit and affiliated with Henry Ford Health, offering employer, individual, Medicare Advantage and other coverage. HAP plans can include drug and alcohol treatment such as detox, residential care, intensive outpatient programs and counseling, with benefits that vary by plan, network and level of care.Listed centers in Michigan and several other states name HAP on their own websites. An Illinois listing may mean Health Alliance, a separate plan, so check the name on your card. Ask the facility and the plan about network status, authorization and costs before admission.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does HAP cover rehab?

Yes, Health Alliance Plan covers addiction treatment as part of its behavioral health benefit, which spans mental health and chemical dependence care from early help through complex treatment. What is covered and at what cost share depends on the plan, so read your Summary of Benefits and Coverage or call (800) 444-5755.

Behavioral health is run in-house by HAP's Coordinated Behavioral Health Management team, which matches members to services and follows the course of treatment.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does HAP cover detox?

Yes, detoxification is listed as a covered behavioral health service on HAP CareSource Marketplace plans, alongside residential treatment, inpatient hospitalization, PHP, IOP, outpatient counseling and medication-assisted treatment. Employer HMO summaries list substance use disorder services as covered both inpatient and outpatient, with cost sharing set by each plan.

Inpatient admissions need prior authorization, obtained by the physician, while emergency room care does not. Michigan Medicaid members reach detox through the local Community Mental Health Services Program.

Detox Centershttps://rehabseekers.com/programs/detox-centers/
Does HAP cover inpatient rehab?

Yes, inpatient substance use treatment is a covered benefit. Example employer HMO benefit summaries list substance use disorder services as covered inpatient and outpatient, with the inpatient stay paid under the hospital benefit. Hospital stays require prior authorization, which the treating physician requests before admission.

On HAP HMO Plan 1000P&AA, HAP must be notified within 48 hours of an admission, and failing to notify can reduce or deny benefits.

Health Alliance Plan, rebranded on May 19, 2026 as Health Alliance Plan by Henry Ford Health, is a nonprofit Michigan health plan owned by the Henry Ford Health system and founded in Detroit in 1960. For anyone looking at treatment, the part that matters is HAP’s behavioral health benefit, which the plan says covers mental health and chemical dependence care from preventive services through to complex addiction treatment.

HAP is not one set of rules. Health Alliance Plan of Michigan issues the HMO and Medicare Advantage products; Alliance Health and Life Insurance Company issues the PPO, EPO, self-funded and Medicare Supplement products; Health Alliance TPA by Henry Ford Health, formerly ASR Health Benefits, administers self-funded employer plans in Grand Rapids; and HAP CareSource, the joint venture with Ohio nonprofit CareSource, runs the Medicaid and marketplace plans. The rebrand changed no coverage, benefits or networks, and new ID cards roll out on the normal schedule.

This guide covers what HAP pays for at each level of care, where prior authorization and admission notification apply, what a stay costs under published plan documents, how addiction medication is handled, and how to find a program in Michigan that works with the plan on the card.
