Rehabs That Take Three Rivers Provider Network (TRPN)

Three Rivers Provider Network (TRPN) is a preferred provider network that health plans, employers and administrators can use to reach providers. Plans that use it can include drug and alcohol treatment, with benefits that depend on the plan, network access and the level of care needed. Networks like this are common in employer plans and workers’ compensation.

Utah centers listed here name TRPN on their own websites. Your insurer or employer plan decides coverage, so call it and the facility before admission to check participation, authorization and cost. Ask as well whether a referral is needed before residential or detox care.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

What is Three Rivers Provider Network (TRPN)?

Three Rivers Provider Network is a national preferred provider network established in 1996 and owned by TRPN DirectPay, Inc. Insurance carriers, health plans, third-party administrators and claims payers use it to reach contracted providers at discounted rates. It is not an insurance carrier and not a health plan.

The same company also operates DirectPay, a claims payment process launched in 2018. Together they report more than 4.3 million participating provider locations nationwide.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Is TRPN health insurance?

No, TRPN is a provider network, not insurance. The company's own FAQ states it is not an insurance carrier and not a health plan. It sells no HMO, PPO, marketplace, Medicare or Medicaid products; carriers and plans rent the network to price claims.

Access to participating providers requires healthcare coverage through a carrier or plan that uses the network, so the benefit always comes from that plan.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does TRPN cover rehab?

No, TRPN does not cover treatment itself, because it is a network rather than a plan. Whether drug and alcohol rehab is covered is decided by the carrier, employer plan or administrator behind your ID card; TRPN only supplies the contracted provider rate.

Call the member number on your ID card to ask about eligibility, benefits and any authorization before admission, then ask the center whether it participates.

Three Rivers Provider Network (TRPN) is a national provider network that insurance companies, employer plans, third-party administrators and claims payers use to reach contracted providers at agreed rates. It is not an insurance carrier and not a health plan. For anyone arranging addiction treatment, that single distinction decides where the real answers about coverage come from.

The company behind the name is TRPN DirectPay, Inc., which owns both the TRPN network, established in 1996, and DirectPay, the claims payment process launched in 2018. The company’s own FAQ states that DirectPay is not an insurance carrier and not a health plan, and that access to participating providers requires coverage through a carrier or plan that uses the network. Eligibility and benefits are settled with that plan, through the phone number printed on the member ID card.

So a rehab that lists TRPN among the payers it accepts is describing a pricing contract, not a benefit that pays for treatment. This guide covers what the network does and does not decide, how each level of care is handled, who issues authorization, how cost is worked out, what happens with addiction medication, and how to find a program that participates.

Does TRPN Cover Drug and Alcohol Rehab?

TRPN does not cover rehab, because it does not issue coverage at all. Whether detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient care, outpatient counseling or medication is paid for is decided by the carrier, employer plan or claims administrator that uses the TRPN network. The benefit is read off that plan, never off the network.

What TRPN supplies is the contracted rate. Its 2010 provider agreement describes the arrangement plainly: the network contracts with insurance companies, third-party administrators, health plans and other payors so they can reach contracted providers at a percentage discount off usual charges, the payor pays the contracted rate, and the provider may not balance bill the patient. A billing-software publisher that reviewed the current TRPN DirectPay contract reports that the discount applies to workers’ compensation, auto and group health bills, which is why the same network name can turn up on an employer card and on an injury claim. Treatment paid through an employer plan follows the rules on the private insurance accepted route rather than anything TRPN publishes.

Two different questions. “Is this program in the TRPN network?” is answered by TRPN. “Will my plan pay for 30 days of residential treatment, and what is my share?” is answered only by the carrier, plan or administrator named on the ID card. Asking the first question of the second party, or the other way round, is where admissions stall.

What Does a TRPN-Priced Plan Pay for at Each Level of Care?

No TRPN statement on substance use levels of care was found, and none would be expected from a network that is not a plan. The ladder below is the one an admissions team will quote; what each rung costs is a question for the plan, asked level by level rather than as a single yes or no.

Medical Detox

Ask the plan whether medical detox is a covered benefit, whether it has to happen in a hospital or can take place in a freestanding unit, and whether an emergency admission is treated differently from a planned one. Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal can produce seizures, and acute withdrawal is an emergency department matter regardless of which network priced the last claim.

Residential and Inpatient

For residential rehab, the questions are the length of stay the plan will authorize at the outset, how continued stay is reviewed, and whether a non-participating program is paid at all. TRPN pricing reduces the billed amount a payor settles; it does not add days or remove a review.

PHP, IOP and Outpatient

TRPN lists mental health among the kinds of participating locations it holds, alongside hospitals, urgent care, physical therapy and laboratories, and a 2018 release described the network as including mental health facilities. That tells you the category exists in the network. Session limits, step-down rules and telehealth terms for a partial hospitalization program or an intensive outpatient program come from the plan, which publishes them and TRPN does not.

Does TRPN Need Prior Authorization for Rehab?

No. TRPN publishes no prior authorization rules and no medical necessity criteria for substance use treatment, and it does not review admissions. Any authorization requirement sits with the carrier, employer plan or third-party administrator behind the ID card, which also runs concurrent review, denials and appeals.

The practical route is the one TRPN itself describes for providers: eligibility and benefits are established with the member’s plan using the phone number on the card, and claims follow the instructions printed there. An admissions team that says it has “authorization from TRPN” has misread the arrangement, and that is worth correcting before a bed is held.

How Do I Know Which Plan Is Behind TRPN?

Read the ID card. TRPN publishes no list of the carriers, employer plans or administrators that use the network, so the card and the benefit booklet are the only reliable guide. The company’s own figures claim more than 4,300,000 participating provider locations and more than 1,900 payers and plans, with no names attached.

<div style="background: #fff3ec; border-left: 4px solid #fe632d; border-radius: 0 8px 8px 0; padding: 16px; margin: 12px 0;“>

If the claim is a workers’ compensation or auto injury claim. A billing-software publisher lists workers’ compensation insurers and claims administrators that have applied TRPN discounts since 2017, among them Zurich Insurance North America, Sedgwick, Gallagher Bassett, CorVel, Liberty Mutual, The Hartford, Broadspire, ESIS, Chubb, Farmers, Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies and Tristar. TRPN also partnered with Mitchell International in 2010 to put the network inside medical bill review software for first-party auto claims. In those cases the adjuster, not a health plan, authorizes treatment.

How Much Does Rehab Cost With TRPN?

There is no TRPN copay, coinsurance or deductible, because member cost sharing belongs entirely to the plan that uses the network. What TRPN changes is the amount the program is paid. A third-party review of the TRPN DirectPay contract reports reimbursement at the lesser of 35 percent off billed charges, 10 percent off the maximum allowable, or 150 percent of Medicare, which is the provider’s payment rate rather than a member cost.

One term does reach the member directly. The 2010 TRPN provider agreement states that once the payor pays the contracted rate, the provider cannot balance bill the patient, and the current site lists elimination of balance billing as a DirectPay feature. Where a plan pays nothing at all, the discussion moves to self pay rehab or sliding scale rehab, and the figures below are the starting point.

Medical detox (7–14 days)$1,500 – $5,200 per week$215 – $745
Residential inpatient$6,200 – $26,000$205 – $865
PHP$7,200 – $14,000$240 – $465
IOP$2,700 – $9,200$90 – $305
Outpatient$1,300 – $5,200$45 – $175

Those are the sums a program would bill without coverage. A TRPN contract shrinks the billed figure to the contracted rate; the deductible, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximum applied on top of it are the plan’s, and they are the numbers that decide what a family actually pays.
