Common questions about DUI and DWI Programs, Phoenix

Answered from what is listed here.

Where are DUI programs in Phoenix?

Glendale, Encanto and Alhambra are where DUI and DWI program listings in Phoenix cluster, in that order. Anyone completing a court requirement can compare providers across these areas, checking before enrolling whether a program records the screening, education or treatment hours the court has ordered.

Does AHCCCS cover DUI treatment in Phoenix?

AHCCCS is accepted by most of the DUI and DWI programs in Phoenix. Coverage runs through the Maricopa County Complete Care plan a member is enrolled in, such as Mercy Care, Molina Healthcare or UnitedHealthcare Community Plan. Asking whether court-required education is billed differently from treatment can clarify out-of-pocket costs.

Are there DUI programs near the mountains in Phoenix?

The most-named mountain feature near DUI and DWI programs in Phoenix is the Union Hills, followed by the Guadalupe Range and the Ma Ha Tuak Range. Nearly all of the DUI and DWI programs in Phoenix sit within 25 miles of a mountain feature.

Measured from each listed program's address, the median distance to the nearest mountain feature is about 10.8 miles. Someone fitting court-required classes around work may find session times matter more.

What DUI program does an Arizona court require in Phoenix?

Arizona has no single named DUI program, so courts in Phoenix do not send everyone to one set class. A judge can order screening, education or treatment as a sentencing condition, and traffic survival school is also required. The specific requirements sit in each person’s court order.

Under A.R.S. 28-1381, a judge may suspend all but one day of a first DUI jail sentence if the person completes a court-ordered alcohol or other drug screening, education, psychotherapy or treatment program. For a second DUI within 84 months, the judge may suspend all but 30 days.

Arizona’s Motor Vehicle Division says some drivers need screening, treatment or education from a state-authorized facility before their driving privileges are restored. The division’s page does not say which agency authorizes those facilities, so ask the court or the Motor Vehicle Division before you enroll. The court and the division also decide whether an online or virtual class counts.

When a screening points to treatment rather than a class, listings in Phoenix include outpatient and intensive outpatient care, residential stays and medication for alcohol or opioid use disorder. Having the court order, screening results and completion deadline ready before calling helps, along with asking how a program sends proof of completion.

Maricopa County DUI Court

Maricopa County Adult Probation runs a DUI Court for people assessed as medium-high or high risk of reoffending. A judicial officer leads the team, along with probation officers, Public Defender’s Office staff and contracted clinicians. Arizona’s general rules are set out on the DUI and DWI programs page for Arizona.

How does a DUI screening decide which treatment you need in Phoenix?

A DUI screening reviews your alcohol and other drug use, and the result tells the court whether an education class is enough or treatment is needed. When treatment is recommended, Phoenix listings report outpatient care, intensive outpatient programs, residential treatment and medication for alcohol or opioid use disorder. A judge can order treatment directly, and court-ordered rehab in Phoenix covers that path.

Every Phoenix DUI listing with a mapped address is in an urban area. All of them are within 25 miles of the New River, at a median of 10.5 miles. Phoenix Sky Harbor International is the nearest major airport for each one, a median of 7.9 miles away, and listings show up in Glendale, Encanto and Alhambra. Valley Metro Rail’s A Line and B Line serve the Central Avenue corridor, so a program located away from the rail line will likely mean a bus connection.

What to bring when you call

Have your court order, any screening results and your completion deadline ready before you call. Ask the admissions team how they report proof of completion to the court and to the MVD.

How do you pay for DUI treatment in Phoenix, and where can you get help now?

Education class fees vary from provider to provider, so ask for the price up front. Treatment can be paid through private insurance, AHCCCS (Arizona’s Medicaid program), sliding fees or public funding. Mercy Care is the Regional Behavioral Health Agreement plan for Maricopa County. Mercy Care’s separate substance use disorder services fund ended on April 1, 2024, and that help now comes through the substance use block grant. Court-ordered treatment through Maricopa County Adult Probation uses a minimum co-pay based on your finances. Phoenix providers that charge on a sliding scale are listed separately, as are Spanish-speaking programs.
