Sober Living Homes in Delaware

Sober living homes in Delaware are shared, alcohol- and drug-free houses where people in recovery pay rent, follow house rules and support one another while they work, study or attend outpatient care. Delaware runs a voluntary certification program for recovery houses, and that status decides which homes courts and state agencies can refer people to.

The listings on this page cover homes across the state, with filters for gender, medication policy, populations served, location and languages. Details come from government treatment registers, state licensing records, accreditor listings and information the providers themselves supply. Ask each home directly about rules, costs and openings.

Common questions about Sober Living

Answered from what is listed here.

Which Delaware cities have sober living homes?

Sober living homes in Delaware cluster first in Dover, followed by Wilmington Manor, Wilmington and Georgetown, in that order. The spread covers Kent, New Castle and Sussex counties. People looking around Milford can also consider homes in nearby communities, since recovery housing is not concentrated in a single part of the state.

Is sober living covered by Delaware Medicaid?

Some of the sober living homes in Delaware record accepting Delaware Medicaid, so payment is worth asking about first. Recovery housing rent is often paid privately, while treatment services connected to a stay may be billed separately to a person's health plan.

AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware, Delaware First Health and Highmark Health Options all serve Delaware Medicaid members. Each plan sets its own coverage rules, which a member can confirm by calling the plan.

Which sober living homes in Delaware are close to a river?

The Smyrna River, the Christina River and the Broadkill River lead the rivers named near sober living homes in Delaware, and nearly all of the sober living homes in Delaware sit within 25 miles of one. The median distance from listed homes to the nearest river is about 13.8 miles.

What is a sober living home and how is it different from rehab?

A sober living home, also called a recovery residence, is shared housing where residents agree to stay alcohol- and drug-free; in Delaware, as elsewhere, it is not a treatment program. Residential rehab provides licensed clinical care with counseling and medical staff, which a recovery house does not.

In Delaware, the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health licenses that clinical care, including Clinically Managed Residential and Withdrawal Management programs. A recovery house offers structure, peer support and a stable address. Many residents attend outpatient or intensive outpatient treatment during the day.

Correctional halfway houses are different again: they serve people completing part of a sentence under corrections supervision. Most sober homes, by contrast, are chosen voluntarily. Delaware certifies recovery houses on a voluntary basis, renewed every two years, and placements by state agencies and courts are limited to certified homes, Oxford Houses or homes awaiting a decision.
