About New Directions Northwest – Baker City
New Directions Northwest is a private non-profit behavioral health agency in Baker City, eastern Oregon, covering addiction treatment, community mental health and crisis services from one organization. This record is its main address, 3425 13th Street. The agency is also certified at three addresses on Midway Drive in the same city, where its residential houses and withdrawal management beds are understood to sit, so check which site an appointment is at.
The range is unusually wide for a rural agency: outpatient and residential addiction treatment, separate men’s and women’s residential houses, social and medical withdrawal management, medication-assisted treatment, driving-under-the-influence services and community mental health care. Alcohol, opioid and stimulant use are treated, alongside depression and trauma, and co-occurring conditions are handled here rather than referred out. Both men and women are admitted, with care available by telehealth.
One point to be clear on before calling: New Directions Northwest states that it is not a methadone clinic. Medication-assisted treatment here means buprenorphine, oral naltrexone and Vivitrol, so anyone on or seeking methadone maintenance needs a different provider. Shari Selander is chief executive, Dr David Richards is medical director, Marji Lind is clinical director, and Anthony Washington, CADC III, MAC, directs the Baker House women’s program.

New Directions Northwest Detox and Rehab Services
The agency holds state certification for outpatient substance use treatment, co-occurring care, driving-under-the-influence services and residential substance use treatment. Withdrawal management runs at both social and medical levels in a sixteen-bed unit at the Recovery Village Center covering ASAM 3.2-WM and 3.7-WM, with five crisis respite beds alongside it, while residential care is split between separate houses for men and for women.
Medication is a real part of the offer: buprenorphine, oral naltrexone and the extended-release injection Vivitrol, prescribed inside a program that also provides family therapy and anger management and treats depression and trauma alongside substance use. Telehealth appointments extend all of that across a thinly populated part of Oregon where a round trip into Baker City can take most of a working day.
Court-mandated clients are catered for through the driving-under-the-influence services, and crisis services run through the agency as well. What the published material does not give is a length of stay for residential care, an intake procedure or a bed count for the two houses, so call (541) 523-7400 and ask how long a residential placement runs, where it is located, and how quickly a withdrawal management bed can be offered.

How Much Does Treatment at New Directions Northwest Cost?
Coverage here is broad by the standards of rural behavioral health. The Oregon Health Plan is accepted along with fifteen coordinated care organizations, among them Eastern Oregon Coordinated Care Organization, Health Share of Oregon, Trillium, Columbia Pacific and PacificSource, plus Moda Health, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna with GEHA. Medicare is accepted, but for outpatient mental health only, not for addiction treatment.
Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Kaiser, Anthem and TRICARE are not on the accepted list, so anyone holding those plans should ask about out-of-network terms before counting on a referral. For everybody else there is a discounted sliding fee schedule administered by the business office on 541-523-7400, and the agency states that nobody is turned away from outpatient mental health or addiction services for inability to pay.
No prices of its own are published. For context, statewide private-pay ranges in Oregon run $7,500 to $24,000 a month for medical detox, $7,000 to $30,000 for residential, $8,000 to $15,000 for a partial hospitalization program, $3,000 to $10,000 for intensive outpatient and $1,500 to $5,500 for outpatient. Those are Oregon-wide figures across providers, not this agency’s charges, and a sliding-scale or plan-covered place should cost far less.

New Directions Northwest Reviews
The Oregon Health Authority is the licensing body, and the state substance use provider directory records New Directions Northwest as certified for outpatient, co-occurring, driving-under-the-influence and residential substance use services. That directory lists no certificate numbers, so there is no license number to quote here. The agency’s national provider identifier is 1235124462, and it is a registered non-profit under employer identification number 93-0569254.
No CARF accreditation record was found for the agency, which is worth noting without over-reading: state certification, not accreditation, is what authorizes the services described on this page. Details here draw on state licensing records, federal provider records and the agency’s own published material. No reviews have been left for New Directions Northwest yet, so anyone who has been through its outpatient, residential or withdrawal management programs has the first word.
