I was a patient here, do NOT send ur kid here for help, technicians tend to talk shit about your kid depending on how much they can’t tolerate them, during my episode they turned a blind eye and enabled me then claimed… to have acknowledged me during my episode but if so, why didn’t they think to help me and get me my medication and remove me from a situation that was triggering that episode from me? They also turn a blind eye to situations and let them escalate to a point where patients fight or start hurting themselves, only a few minutes after do they intervene. These people have failed me over and over and they know that, I hope this place gets shut down.
I was apprehensive about this facility initially. However, the doctors and nurses literally saved my son’s life due to a medical condition called PANS/PANDAS/encephalitis that went undiagnosed due to discrimination at… other hospitals. The staff at Thrive listened to me, got his bloodwork done, and transferred him to a children’s hospital to get treatment immediately when the tests showed positive. He’s still not quite the same, we are forever traumatized and changed, but he is making huge progress and I owe his life and our family’s happiness to them. Medical professionals ignored my child, but Thrive took his blatant medical problems seriously and they treated us all with tremendous kindness. I honestly cannot recommend them enough. Communicate with the staff as much as possible, visit every day, and your children will have a wonderful experience here.
Good hospital
My loved one was very well taken care of! I’m so grateful for the staff and everyone involved in her care!
This hospital was previously named Desert Winds Hospital. My adopted daughter was sent here two years ago (prior to her moving in with me). She's 5'1 and 90 Ibs. She's told me stories about how multiple large male MHT's… would aggressively restrain the kids causing the kids to panic, making it hard for the kids to breathe, leaving bruises on them and then they drug the kids anytime the kids are even semi difficult. They use haldol which knocks the kids out for 12-16 straight hours. During that time sexual assaults and other inappropriate behavior would happen during the kids unconsciousness. I am horrified and heartbroken that she experienced this. I'm only writing this to warn anyone who may be considering this place for their child, please think twice and do your own research.
I was a patient here in the child ward, this place is genuinely unhealthy. Gained so much weight i went in 200 and came out 375.
They take your children's jewelry and other belongings, and misplace it, then call the parent combative when they ask for it to be sought after or legal matters would pursue. This institute is stuck "in their own… feelings". My son was not felt welcomed by others. It is a sad epidemic when Las Vegas has a crisis of mental instability and institutions like this one is unhelpful. Try other means for your own safety and sanity of your loved one
This hospital is very clean and modern with beautiful court yards. I highly recommend this place.
The building is clean and the nurses here are caring. I recommend for a loved one
Great staff very understanding
”horrible place, starting with front desk Mabel and ending with director and cece. dont bring ur kids here, they discharge my sister because they couldn’t handle my mom LOL”
Please do not bring your loved ones to this hospital! If they happen to get admitted there, try to have them transfer if possible. I had a family member go through a life-threatening mental health crisis, and these… nurses and doctors were extremely unhelpful with very poor communication skills. Not only that, but the nurses would give so much attitude over the phone and wouldn’t answer any questions, despite me confirming the patient code and DOB several times, and my family member had given me permission for release of information. When the RN answered, I confirmed the info and asked her a question, and she rudely replied, “Uhm do you wanna talk to him?” When I spoke to my family member, he sounded upset and wanted to be picked up. As an RN myself, I have never spoken to patients or patients’ family members as rude as these ones. It is extremely important to show empathy towards patients and their family during this emotional and difficult time. It is an unbearable, heartbreaking feeling to know your loved one is receiving poor care. My loved one was here once before, and it was the worst experience we have ever had as a family, out of his 5 hospitalizations within the past 2 months; we are still traumatized and seeing therapy for what we went through here. While signing discharge paperwork, my loved one was still not in the right mind and hadn’t adhered to his medications due to his mental health condition, so we told the RN, and they didn’t care or do a thing. They just turned the other cheek, and immediately following his discharge, he was taken on an involuntary hold. As an RN, you are to advocate for your patients, NOT cause more harm. I will definitely report this to the Nevada State Board of Nursing. This hospital needs to be shut down immediately.
If you value your loved ones, do not send them here. This place is underfunded, understaffed, undertrained, and unsanitary. When I arrived, the toilet wasn't clean, the room was full of dust bunnies, and the air quality… was so poor that every time I blew my nose I saw red. No enrichment, no exercise, no information or workbooks on mental health, no art therapy. Just a bunch of disgruntled, underpaid staff and patients wearing paper scrubs and grip socks. Spending 23 hours and 20 minutes a day shuffling around in a building no windows and no clocks. If you wanted to go outside, you got 4 chances a day for ten minutes each, if you were willing to go out with the smokers for their breaks. The visiting doctor saw me for maybe 3 minutes and barely answered any of questions. They didn't have food to accommodate my dietary restrictions, which I had to have sorted out later at an ER after discharging from this place. I believe I was also unnecessarily sedated and seriously question the de-escalation training the staff underwent. And I have a lot more to say, but I'm getting tired. I didn't thrive here, I survived. Came out worse than I went in. I sincerely hope I'll never need to go to another facility, but if I do, I've heard good things about Pavilion. Also, food for thought. I believe this place used to be called Desert Winds. It seems like they may have rebranded after some teenagers escaped from this place back in 2023.
Wish I could give a Zero or half star review. This place has no communications and they all seem lost and confused. My daughter was there for 5 days on a legal hold. At intake on Thursday night i was told that she had… no answers for me and that they would call me tomorrow morning after 9 am. Next day came and went I called at noon to see what was going on to be sent to the wrong nurse and then to a voice mail to a name of someone i was not looking for. Multiple times I left a voice mail on this person voicemail when trying to reach Gaddy. I got it was the holiday weekend so i figured i wouldn't get answers until he following Monday if even then. My daughter was released on the Tuesday after I explained the previous night her 72hour hold was up and that they need to reach to me to let me know what is going on. all reports from nurses were she was happy laughing with peers and adjusting well to the routine. Seems to me an out patient route would be better then her being there. Like I said they released her the following day with a script for anxiety and referral to out patient counseling. I do not live in Las Vegas and takes me a little over an hour and half to get there. Mind you I was told to wait for a call that didn't come until she was being released after a very brief talk with a doctor and case manger. Now for the best part. I asked for them to email me an accuse for school no problem. well day 4 and the accuse i was sent was for another person so HIPPA law not being watched. now I have name and dates of some other person child? And been calling multiple times a day to get her script filled needs provider pre auth and again 4 days multiple calls and still have nothing i asked for but my child home. This is not okay this is poor costumer service and why they kept my daughter so long was to " Gat to know her." why you will not see her again and if she ever is in another position like this i will request her not be sent to this facility.
never want to come back ever again.
Amazing staff. 🩷
I was okay there was a lot of noise and fighting but it made me think that I don’t want to go back to a mental hospital ever again. Some staff were nice and some people weren’t . The only things that piss me off that… they fired my therapist and a bunch of good people too. So we were stuck with a bunch of people we absolutely hated. Other than that their food was nasty.
My experience with this establishment truly helped me regain some of my fight to live back. They had just opened the adult unit and it is very comfortable. The rooms only have two beds each and that’s really nice. For… the most part, my stay really was peaceful, aside from one girl who kept slamming doors and beating on walls. Once she was discharged I felt a lot safer. The staff are kind and caring. They interact with you and genuinely care about how you’re feeling. They are definitely over-worked and short staffed, but their empathy and commitment to help the patients shines through. Nursing was amazing and always made sure my blood pressure was taken and my medications were given to me on time. My psychiatrist was also amazing and very insightful. It took me a minute to get used to my therapist there, but I think it’s just because she intimidated me. But she is really nice, patient and smart. There are multiple groups throughout the week and they are very interactive and insightful. Very focused on self growth. They also serve great food…. And LOTS of it. Always fresh pitchers of juice and water, snacks throughout the day, beds are wiped down daily even if not in use, they even do your laundry for you if you have personal clothes you wear and set it outside your door at night. This place, these people… they’re ALL about making sure you have the proper care, support and help to get back to being able to take care of yourself again and help you find yourself again. Also, they have art class and gym time throughout the week. Plus a place for everyone to watch tv together. They want to help you get back to living a normal life, and don’t try to overmedicate you or abuse you in any way. Five stars. If I could, I’d give them ten. I’m so very thankful for my experience with them. I am afraid to ever go anywhere else if I am in need of these services, because most places scare me with patients who are out of control and staff that doesn’t protect the clients the way they do here. Thank you so much for all you do…. To every one of you. Again, this was for the adult intensive care unit I was in.
--- **Review of Desert Winds Academy, Sun Arch Academy I am posting this review to share our experience with Desert Winds Academy, Sun Arch Side, where my daughter stayed for 120 days, exceeding their standard 90-day… program with a 30-day extension. **Background:** My daughter has faced severe mental health challenges due to trauma she experienced before we adopted her. Unfortunately, this program only exacerbated her trauma. **Initial Impressions:** Initially, the program seemed promising. However, as we approached the end date, it became clear that they were no longer committed to her care. **Concerns:** 1. **Quality of Therapy:** - The therapy provided was inadequate. My daughter, who requires specialized training and understanding, did not receive the necessary support. - Family therapy sessions were ineffective, often focusing on mindfulness rather than addressing core issues. 2. **Unprofessional Conduct:** - During one session, my daughter punched her therapist in the stomach after the therapist spoke negatively about me. This incident highlighted the lack of professionalism and appropriate handling of sensitive topics. 3. **Minimization of Behaviors:** - The staff minimized her suicidal behaviors, labeling her as "baseline" without considering her actual mental state. A review of the nurses' notes revealed a stark contrast to what we were being told. **Final Thoughts:** Be cautious with this facility. While it may seem like a viable option initially, our experience shows that the care can deteriorate significantly. Our journey began with hope but ended in disappointment and additional trauma for my daughter. It is crucial to carefully consider all options and be vigilant about the quality of care your loved one is receiving.
this is literally the most disgusting hospital i’ve ever been to. They’re so dirty and gross. When i told the nurses that the water dispenser had an awful smell and the water tasted gross they did not care at all. It… was so dusty in the room they had me in. I felt more suicidal having to stay in this disgusting place.
Patient care is not a priority here. Nurses give medications at times they want, even missing dosages. Not to mention patients being left alone or with one staff, which leads to them eloping. When it comes to insurance,… they lie to insurance companies on why the patient needs more treatment or why they were admitted to get the stay covered. Owners are more worried about making money than hiring competent staff. Would not recommend this hospital to anyone nor would I recommend anyone working for them.
11-11-23 If I could give 1/2 a star I would. I spoke to Nick at the facility- told him my son is suicidal and wants to kill himself. He said bring him in for an assessment, what type of insurance does he have? Told him… no insurance it’s self pay until we get his Medicare rolling in - Nick said that’s fine he can go on self pay THEY CANNOT TURN ANYONE AWAY- We brought him in, and They turned him away. Said he didn’t meet the criteria then handed him a list of lower level state run facilities that take no insurance. So it’s all about money They don’t care They will turn you away even though legally they can’t turn you away. My son went in for help and they refused to help him. So if my kid kills himself I hope they’re ready for the lawsuit of a lifetime.
This is the worst Hostpial that my daughter has ever went to it made Her worse!!! Those pills just made her worse the people there are crazy and disgusting and the staff are rude!. Dont bring your child here ever.
This place is terrible. I had a client who was taken here. First, it's nearly impossible to get someone to answer the phone. Then, visiting hours are insane (1 hour which also crosses through their dinner time - and… only Mon through Fri - and you can't bring outside food to feed them since they miss dinner). Phone calls can only be made during a 1 hour period of the day (which crosses through the visiting hours and dinner) and can only last 5 minutes. On top of that, when the hospital schedules a group treatment team meeting with the client's team, they schedule it at the same time for everyone in the hospital, and in no particular order, so everyone has to just wait around with no idea when the meeting is supposed to start. I don't know what this place is like on the inside, but for anyone trying to help someone on the inside, this place is a train wreck in terms of organization. If you can send someone to a better place, please do, because this place is a mess.
do not send your kid here. i was a patient here and theirs these shots they give you if your acting bad it makes you very suicidal and make you feel like your seeing things. i was jumped by 3 people and the staffs… allowed it to happen after me telling them i was about to get jumped i ended up winning but still makes me upset that they did absolute jack nothing. if your afraid of your kid getting hurt DO NOT send them here.
On Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 8:43 a.m. my daughter called me at work crying. She told me that 2 nurses that work at Drsert Winds Hospital, dragged her and threatened to cut her hair off. The nurse told me that my… daughter was not evaluated yet. I told her I will be up there to get my daughter out. I also told them that I will be reached out to Fox 5 News and I called the police as well as made a complaint. The doctor was not in so another employee took it upon herself to evaulate my daughter. She called and claim that my daughter told her that she wanted to commit suicide and kill other people which is not true at all. They know I am going to reach out to Fox 5 News. So they would rather tell a lie than tell the truth. When I got to the hospital around 3:45 pm, my son and my children grandmother was there. My daughter bust out in tears and I ask her what was wrong, she said two black women came into her room, dragged her and one of the women pulled her hair to the point that the thread came apart because she have a sew in wave in her head. The woman who pulled her hair said to my daughter that she is going to make her lose her job. Which they need to lose their job. Kids are there to get help not get physcial abuse by staff that works there. I requested an AMA Discharge/AD- 24 hour discharge due to the physical abuse my daughter encountered by the staff working at Dersert Winds Hotel. I'm waiting to hear back from Adina Archibold-Bugett ( Director of Clinical Srvices) I wrote an email requesting her to discharge my daughter.
