Enriching Lives Organization – Indianapolis

My experience with Dr. Janet Grinstead through Enriching Lives Mental Health and Addictions Center was harmful and unsafe. I met her while incarcerated in Marion County Jail where she was acting as a therapist. That is… how the therapeutic relationship began. Dr. Grinstead paid for an Airbnb for me and then used that financial support to exert control over me. I was expected to answer her phone calls daily and comply with her questions and demands. When I did not respond consistently, the support was threatened and eventually withdrawn. During therapy, she dismissed my documented abuse and made statements that caused me to question my reality. She told me I do not have BPD and instead blamed my behavior on my mother, despite knowing I was raised by my father and that she has known him personally for years. This reflected bias that was never disclosed or addressed. She was aware of my history of human trafficking yet pushed me to work in conditions that were not humane, knowing I would accept any income due to my vulnerability. Before the agreed thirty days of housing ended, she removed me from the Airbnb and forced me back into contact with my trafficker, despite stating she was helping me escape that situation. Her behavior was controlling, dismissive, and verbally rude. I also witnessed her publicly contradict her husband while he was preaching, which mirrored the same hostile demeanor she displayed privately. The most concerning part is that she had access to me as a therapist while I was incarcerated and later continued to involve herself in my personal life in ways that crossed ethical boundaries. Based on my experience, I believe vulnerable individuals are at risk in situations where there is an imbalance of power and dependency. This was not unbiased or trauma informed therapy and it caused significant harm.
