The hospital is doing a major restructuring and addition. Parking is absolutely horrendous - this review has nothing to do with care received. Please make sure to allow extra time to get to any appointments you have… (Cancer Care center, radiology, dental clinic, lab, etc.) They are offering free Valet parking but I am not sure that will do it justice! While waiting for 2 spots, I had 2 cars just take the spots as well. I know healthcare can be stressful but just wow. They need some more folks in the parking lot directly traffic during visiting hours, that may help. But again, please plan ahead for clinic and hospital appointments.

From start to finish, I was there 8.5 hours. I find it very unprofessional that after being given an IV, patients have to go back out in the waiting room. I was not checked on by a nurse/doctor once in the waiting room… during my 2 hour infusion. The lab levels that I knew were off were not checked with the first set of labwork like I asked, causing me to wait an additional 2 hours (30 min for lab results, an extra 1.5 hrs before a doctor reviewed it and ordered the infusion I came in wanting. Some of the kindest nurses though (Olivia M was amazing)! The front desk receptionist who came in after shift change last night was rude after asking for an update. The other front desk staff were kind.

I am not surprised to see all the negative feedbacks for this hospital. My aunt just got release from this hospital because they gave her wrong medication and they called her back to the hospital and made her stayed for… a few nights for them to flush out what the gave her that caused her blood pressure and other levels to keep going up. My aunt was in tears at the treatment of the nurses that was in place to help her and other patience. Tossing her foods that her daughter had brought for her without her consent and later making excuses one nurses after the other. The nursed stood around just talking and nobody helped her to the bathroom regardless of her call for help, a specific nurse that was assigned to her had yanked the IV cord ruthlessly that caused her to bleed and she just made an excuse and walked away not even cleaning up the droplets of blood just letting it dried up. The looks and and harness gave her and how they treated her with because she was an elderly woman who didn't speak English well but she does understand them. I am shocked that nobody is doing anything to this hospital with so much bad reviews as this one. I had read all of the reviews here saw that the treatment my aunt got is not something new. It's a shame without all these patients, there would be no income to pay for their wages and this is the treatments they got from hospital staffs. I don't understand why a hospital like this one is not doing anything about all these complaints. Doctors and nurses are put in place to help save lives. If you aren't a people person, honestly you shouldn't even be a doctor or nurse. When you treat your patient, think that this person is a human with a family too and they are loved by their children, brother and sister etc.. Put yourself in their shoe, what happened if someone treated your child this way or your elderly mother whom you love this way? How would you feel? Everything comes in circles, what you do to other it doesn't matter how high your job position is or who you are, what goes around does comes around but you just have to be smart enough to catch it that it was karma. I just had to leave this review for my elderly aunt.

St johns is the standard for hospital hospitality. The whole staff is soooooo great and kind and polite. The doctor that helped me really listened to my problems and I can see by his character why that hospital is so… great Because of his leadership. Just amazing place to get help go ST JOHNS MAPLEWOOD!

Open heart surgery went good. Then the care I was given afterwards I wouldn't have given a dog. I was told to shower daily with antibacterial soap. I scheduled a shower at 7 am. Nurses had every excuse to postpone my… shower until it became next shifts problem. Needless to say I never got my shower. Then for pain I was given every excuse why they refused to give me anything. I understand people have drug problems but I just had open heart surgery and sat in my chair the whole day in the worst pain I ve ever experience.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My sister went to this ER with severe stomach pain, but the doctor and nurse did not treat her concerns seriously. The doctor told her she was fine and even said she was… pregnant, which was not true. After waiting for about six hours, they discharged her.The very next day, she went to a different hospital, where doctors did a scan and told her they had found cancer. I’m extremely disappointed with the care she received at this ER. Based on our experience, I would recommend that people consider going somewhere else if they need emergency care.

We definitely had a wonderful experience! My father-in-law had an emergency and as an elderly patient, we prayed that he was trialed immediately. I wishes I had the first person that helped us, a kind black gentleman… that looked like he was either taking a break or switching shift, sir - bless you for urgently getting our father a wheelchair. Thank you for helping us when we were worried and panic-strickened with our father. Thank you, Kody, the security officer that escorted us personally to the front lobby and Kathleen, you were a delight in helping us with triage to having a positive attitude. Thank you, nurse Shannon for helping with explaining things and taking care of us immediately. Nurse Linh, thank you for taking care of our father and speaking his language which made him comfortable. Lastly, thank you, Dr. Swenson for your service in taking care of him without having an assistant, not only did you prioritize his care, but definitely connected with us to create a comfortable experience, while doing due diligence at 6 a.m. You all treated people like people and we appreciate that! Bless your hearts!

Don’t go here. There are enough hospitals in the Twin Cities that you should never have to go here. I took my mother here when she suddenly became violently ill out of the blue. She had thrown up all over herself and… needed to change her pants as well after having an accident from the violent vomiting. She was throwing up so hard and was so weak she couldn’t walk into the hospital. We went in to ask for help bringing her in and they reassured her that that’s help her get cleaned up and changed. However after getting her vitals, she was dumped back into the waiting room. In between every test, she was returned to the waiting room. No results on her tests, no discussion with any kind of provider, just removed from the waiting room numerous times for blood tests, EKG and a CT and returned right back to the waiting room terrified every time in a hard uncomfortable wheelchair with only a puke bag. She was returned there with every other person who was sick and injured to just sit there VERY CLOSE to each other in a tiny waiting room. Meanwhile while looking for a restroom I saw nearly every single room and bed in the ER was EMPTY. What is going on at this place??? What a horrible way to spread illnesses. You will come into close contact with SO many different illnesses because you will sit elbow to elbow with dozens of people for hours. My mother was only seen by a provider when they came to discharge her. We had no idea what was going on with her all day until the very end when they said “you have gallstones but they aren’t making you sick, we don’t know what’s wrong with you so you’re going home.” Waited all day in the waiting room with zero communication for this. This information was delivered to her in front of every other patient in the waiting room and they were all so intensely bored and distressed that every time someone got any tiny bit of information, everyone was listening. There was zero privacy. The other patients that she spent all day with expressed far more concern for my mom than anyone who worked there. Go to ANY other hospital. Please.

I had a C-section My baby was in a NICU and in the NICU they have a camera that you can access to watch your baby on your phone well around 4:00 a.m. one of the nurses was changing my baby and she was pretty rough with… my baby shoving pacifier in her mouth and frustration. My baby original nurse was not inside of the room with her she must have stepped out to use the restroom so that was a different nurse that was aggressively caring for my baby. I did not know which nurse it was to report her but I feel like this review will help another mother to stay alert if baby /babies away or in NICU ...the nurse very frustrated... Is now 2026 and I'm now having a reflection on this review... The NICU nurses a great percentage of them were careless... I heard a lot of babies crying for long periods of time sometimes you can hear nurses getting up frustrated that they actually had to tend to the babies. There was one nurse that stood out unfortunately like I said it's 2026 I do not remember her name So I hope she doesn't get any of this backlash but beware mommies and daddies of the NICU nurses.

I went to ED for a bowel obstruction, to be honest I wasn’t sure I made the right decision. The ED is a very busy place in the basement, small rooms no bathroom, I was claustrophobic and feeling miserable. I spent two… days in this room waiting for a bed. The staff were amazing, so kind and caring. I knew that it was no fault of the hospital for the huge influx of patients. But, the wonderful staff and my team were absolutely amazing. I was fortunate enough to get move to a room which felt like I was living at the Ritz. All I can say is they fixed me even though I’m not the easiest patient, they treated me with kindness, grace and medical brilliance.I wouldn’t want to be my nurse or doctor! Praises to St John’s and MNGI for basically saving my life.

A new father should not have to forgo the joy of welcoming their premature baby girl into the world due to the fear and disgust of how their wife is being treated while cut open, wide awake, and in pain on the operating… table. This has been escalated internally, and I hope no family has to experience what we did. Bedside inpatient nursing was wonderful.

Never go there for help!!!! Nurse's out right rude told repeatedly that i did not know what meds that i was taking, did not know what complex carbs where. When seen by the PA she had told me that my blood sugar levels… where all over the board from to many complex carb in take and would need more blood work. Nurse gave me a covid test for my diabetes, put a risk fall band on my wrist then proceeded to tell me here pee in this cup and go down this long hallway alone!!! When i was finished and gave the nurse the cup back she proceeded again to sternly tell me that i had better look up what complex carbs are and then placed me on bed in the hallway for hours. NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO THERE FOR HELP

The hospital felt dated and not well maintained, and the emergency department was chaotic. While we were waiting, several nurses were openly complaining about their jobs and the patients, which set a really… unprofessional tone. I was there with a friend who was having a severe panic attack, and the ER doctor’s bedside manner made everything worse. He came in confrontational, dismissed my friend’s pronouns, and escalated an already fragile situation instead of helping. The only person who showed any real care was the security guard, who took the situation seriously and tried to support us. Even with his help, we ended up leaving and going to another ER.

If you are sick, the ER at St. John's will make you feel 10x worse. Seriously go someplace else if you can. - Long waits in dirty, overcrowded lobby. - While waiting patients forced to sit in a chair or really hard,… uncomfortable wheelchair...for hours. No pillow. No blanket. No sip of water. No comfort of any kind offered. - No place for patient to lie down. You can't even lay on the floor because it is so crowded. - While waiting staff does not check on the patient. No assistance offered. No help for those who need assistance walking. No one to answer questions. - It was common to see patient in lobby given a plastic vomit bag then left to fend for themselves...for hours. Absolutely no assistance offered. - Patients who are waiting have no way to contact nurse if they need help. There is no call button. - There was a patient in obvious pain dropped off in the lobby by a nurse. She was promised medicine but it never arrived. Sat there for hours in a hard, plastic wheelchair, suffering. A nurse finally appeared and said she would "send a note to the doctor". The poor lady was not even offered a pillow or a blanket. - There is absolutely no patient privacy. All patients crowded in a room together, sitting side by side. This can be really embarrassing for patients dealing with sensitive issues/symptoms. - There is a bin in the main hallway to collect urine cups. A patient has to walk across the lobby, in front of everyone, holding the urine sample. Then all the cups are dumped in one bin for collection. It's just nasty. - No concern for patient safety. People who are not fully conscious, struggling with severe pain or not alert should not be left alone, unattended. - There is also no place to secure belongings. Security does not walk around the lobby. - At discharge nurse stapled a patient form to my orders that included identifying information about another patient - name, age, address, race, emergency contact. - Emergency room lobby crowded 50+ patients with only 1 bathroom for men and 1 for women. This bathroom is not regularly cleaned. - The ER is chaotic, loud, crowded, lots of people talking, bright lights ... The environment itself is not conducive to healing. It's very stressful. - I saw a patient put on a gurney who was left unattended in the emergency room lobby for over 5 hours. The patient was not even conscious. His skin was pale white and he looked in terrible shape. Sad to see...dumped in the main hallway like a discarded tissue. - St Johns used to be a beautiful, well run hospital with excellent patient care. It has really gone downhill since it became part of Fairview. How St Johns ER Works: 1) Patient checks in. Escorted to one side of the lobby. Lobby is crowded with patients and there is very little room to move. 2) Triaged by a nurse in a side room. Taken back to lobby. 3) Registration staff comes to you because St Johns wants their money so this person will always be available. 4) If lucky 2-3 hour wait. Taken to a Janitor's closet to see a doctor. The nurse does everything possible to keep you in the hard uncomfortable wheelchair so they don't have to take the time to clean the soft lounging chair in the room. Doctor does not really listen. Nothing is explained. Medicine put in IV and you are not told what it is. 5) Shuttled back to another part of the lobby to wait another 3+ hours. 6) At some point, staff or doctor appears, takes you to a disorganized, cluttered and messy room to quickly explain test results and their opinion then discharge you. Told to come back if symptoms continue...going back to ER is much worse than suffering at home.
