About Behavior Management Systems – Rapid City (350 Elk Street)

Behavior Management Systems operates from 350 Elk Street in Rapid City. The site sits in Pennington County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Ashland Heights, Box Elder and Colonial Pine Hills. Distance matters here, and the nearest option is not always the one that fits.

Residential treatment, intensive outpatient and outpatient care are delivered here. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves. Care offered spans more than one level, which means someone can move between them without changing provider.

Treatment Services at Behavior Management Systems

Residential treatment, intensive outpatient and outpatient care run to a set weekly schedule, with evenings and weekends spent at home. That suits people holding down work or caring responsibilities, though it asks more of someone managing early recovery alone. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Residential runs both short and long term, so the question at intake is which length the assessment points toward. Ask what happens at the end of the program as well as the beginning, since that is where plans usually thin out.

How Much Does Treatment at Behavior Management Systems Cost?

Self-pay rehab in South Dakota typically works out at $200 to $830 a day for residential treatment, $80 to $280 a day for an intensive outpatient program and $40 to $150 a day for standard outpatient care. No prices were found for Behavior Management Systems at the time of writing, so the daily figures are typical state costs.

In most programs the fee includes accommodation, meals, the intake assessment, group therapy and individual counseling. Nothing from Behavior Management Systems itself was found on this, so that is an assumption. Ask for a tailored price and what it includes.

Today I took my children to West River Mental Health seeking support for issues they’ve been struggling with for quite some time. Instead of feeling heard and understood, I left feeling dismissed and discouraged. I… explained that both of my children struggle with ADHD, self-esteem issues, emotional regulation, and difficulties in school. My son internalizes his emotions and has been affected by teasing, the absence of his father, and instability related to addiction issues within our family history. My daughter struggles with anger, anxiety, ADHD, and learning difficulties that impact her education and daily life. Both of my children are behind academically and clearly struggling emotionally. During the appointment, I felt like these concerns were minimized and brushed off as “typical kid stuff” or simply needing more attention. The counselor also mentioned she could give them “at least 30 days,” which made me feel like a decision had already been made that their care would be short-term before truly understanding their needs. As a parent, it is difficult to ask for help, especially when your children are hurting emotionally and academically. I came looking for support and guidance and instead felt unheard and dismissed. I understand mental health professionals see many situations, but I believe families deserve compassion, validation, and to feel like their concerns are being genuinely considered.

Unhelpful, unkind, and honestly I am shocked this is a mental health facility with how they treat patients. I was a patient there for 5-6 YEARS. In that time I mistakenly no called no showed ONCE and they closed my… account and will not see me again. Meanwhile, I am completely out of meds as of last night and need at minimum my bipolar meds. I asked the nurse what I could do for suggestions or help and was told I don’t know, call back to get the front desk and they’ll see if we’ll take you back. Can’t even transfer me?! Goodness. I wish I hadn’t given such an uncaring facility my business for years.

It's very strict there. Limited access to counselors. Foods limited and fridges are locked 24/7. The BR's (behavioral reflections) are given daily for every little thing such as having a deodorant in your room or not… keeping your children contained in one spot.

Waited over a month for an appointment, was NEVER told to be 30 minutes early for appointment, never received online paperwork. Took a day off of work, had to find a ride, and still they wouldn’t see me even though I… was technically 15 minutes early for my “appointment time”. For a mental health facility this place is a joke. Do NOT go here. Better off seeing your PCP and getting a referral for ANYWHERE ELSE. They do NOT care about their patients. I wish I could leave zero stars. Front desk lady with short hair/septum piercing was extremely rude, wasn’t even giving me the next available appointment date. Which I can’t afford to take more time off of work. Heartless person.

I've been waiting 5 months for my med appointment, they have rescheduled it twice, moving it out a month both times, it will be 6 months by the time i see the doctor, for people struggling with mental health and trying… to actually get help, it is extremely discouraging, and really makes you want to give up.

My therapist is 10/10 and is helping me reconnect with myself and family. She is by far the best therapist I've had in my years with different therapists.

I got a baby sitter drove an hour to come to this appointment I walked into the door at 11:44 my appointment was at 11:40 the receptionist told me they have a 5 minute rule and if I’m 5 minutes late I have to… reschedule. For an establishment that deals with people who have mental health problems this is disgusting to me. As s single mom I am doing everything I can to help myself and I’m 5 minutes late so I was not able to get my prescription refilled. This place is a joke. If you need help you are way better off going to a real doctors office with staff that will respect you & your needs.

I see Rebekah Kindall here and highly recommend her. She is very caring and compassionate, a great listener and provides great insights. If you are looking for a kind and gentle therapist, she is a great option.

The two times I have went here in the last year and a few months. The therapist I talked with never let me tell her about how I was feeling and never addressed any of my concerns. Never even asked me if I thought my… medications were helping or not. She just blankly stared at the monitor of her computer and had to have me repeat answers to the same questions for the full session. NOT HAPPY WITH THE SERVICES.

So many great resources here. My sons and I all see therapists at BMS and it is phenomenal. I recently changed my sons' therapists and they both started improving immediately. You can also get many other services from… medication management to case management. Reach out, there are people here to help you. You don't have to do it alone. ❤

For being Community Health, they referred me out because my insurance was going to change in a few months. I feel that was unethical.

BMS is great at getting appointments but don't ask them to write any letter or get a call back when your family really needs help. They are too busy with other patients to help in a timely manner. Also very… disrespectful over the phone. If I could report these incompetent people somewhere I would.

The therapist gave my day bipolar meds even though my daughter has no signs of bipolar disorder. Now my 14 year old is convinced she needs them when it’s just depression. She’s tried a few meds and because they didn’t… work well the dr thinks she’s bipolar after talking to her for 45 minutes. She’s never had a manic episode or anything of the sort. No wonder the dr is resigning soon.

The only reason i gave one star is necause it wont allow you to post unless you give at least 1 Britiny the anxiety med doctor seemed to be judging me from the second i came in. She didnt give me time to answer… questions she talked over me. She made sudgestions of my answer befor i could answer. she made it obviouse that she doesnt actually have compassion or empathy for her patients. Its just her job. said she could not perscribe a certain fast acting anxiety medication for panic attacks while i waited for the others to take affect because if i ended up it court she didnt want to be held liable. When i told her i wanted to make a complaint about her she said of course you do. I already saw this. Coming and i wont be backed into a corner by you. How did she see it coming unless she had pre concieved notions and jumped to an assumtion of me based on my family and personal information. It was the first time ever meeting me. Patients need to trust their doctor has their best interest in mind and actually listen to what they say. Not be concerned with getting in trouble just in case she ends up in court. They are supposed to care about the well being of the patient first. I do not recomend her if you want sombody who hears you or even has your best interest at heart. Especially if you are a parent looking for help for your child. This woman doesnt care about the patient. It is nothing but a job.
