About Summit BHC Iowa LLC – Bayard
Summit BHC Iowa LLC operates from 601 2nd Street in Bayard. The site sits in Guthrie County, which shapes which public funding routes apply. Nearby communities include Adair, Guthrie Center and Jefferson. Iowa draws people across long distances for treatment, so travel time is worth weighing against waiting time.
Detox and residential treatment are delivered here, alongside medication-assisted treatment and telehealth appointments. Which level fits depends on the assessment rather than on what is available, so the useful first question is what that assessment involves. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.

Detox and Rehab Services at Summit BHC Iowa LLC
Withdrawal management covers alcohol, benzodiazepine, cocaine, methamphetamine and opioid dependence and is handled on site rather than referred elsewhere. Someone starting in detox can move into residential care without changing provider or repeating an intake. Ask what the assessment involves before you commit.
Residential runs both short and long term, so the question at intake is which length the assessment points toward. Buprenorphine and naltrexone are available and paired with counseling rather than prescribed alone. Assessment decides the level of care, so ask what that involves and how quickly it can happen.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’m incredibly grateful for my experience at St. Gregory Recovery Center. The staff, therapists, counselors, and admissions team were caring, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping me succeed. From the… moment I arrived, I felt heard, respected, and cared for. They helped me work through some difficult things and, most importantly, helped me rediscover joy, hope, and love in life. I’m thankful for the tools, encouragement, and compassion they gave me along the way. I would highly recommend St. Gregory to anyone looking for a supportive place to begin their recovery journey.
Loved it there loved the staff loved the counselors the food top tier 👌 gormey amazing experience I cried leaving 😢 wont ever forget the people
Highly recommend this recovery center. Kind staff, a positive environment and a well ran after-care program.
SGRC was very helpful in my recovery. The clients were great and the staff truly cares about your success in recovery!!!
I had been working closely with an admissions staff member on behave of my sister for several weeks. I called and called but kept being given the run around when I asked for this person. Eventually was told that this… person was let go by the company. I am disappointed. I don’t know all of the details or circumstances but I can’t imagine that the person I was working with was anything but the best. Absolutely changes the game plan for me and my loved one. I have since reached out to a different facility. So saddened by this.
My wife was accepted here I took her 2 hours from home and was hopefully going to get the help she needed they told us she was medically cleared and was good to go. 9 hours after dropping her off my wife calls me and… said I have to come back out there and pick her up, or they could send her to a hospital that she has tried many time and all they did was throw pills at her and send her out the door, because the head nurse said she had to many medical problems and they couldn't take her. This was after we had already discussed all her medical problems almost a week before they even accepted her to the program. In my opinion it is no wonder people can't get the help they need in a system that is so rigged and set up to make people fail. DO NOT GO HERE FOR HELP. We will find someplace else to help my wife that actually cares.
This place gave me hope when I thought all was lost. They touched me back into my faith and gave me hope that recovery is possible. I highly recommend it for anyone struggling with addiction and their faith. The staff… there is incredibly good at their jobs and supportive of anyone no matter the background and no matter the substance. The people there are fantastic aswell a great loving group of people that’ll be like family to you without judgement. I’d give 6 stars if it was possible
I chose to leave this facility after two weeks because I was dissatisfied with the quality of treatment I received. During my stay, I received very little individual therapy—approximately 15 minutes per week—which was… far less than I expected from an inpatient treatment program. The group sessions were disjointed and not well run. I ultimately felt I needed to seek better care elsewhere. The billing experience after discharge was equally frustrating. I paid $6,500 out of pocket and was later billed an additional $4,000. When I requested more information from the billing company, I did not receive anything. I also contacted the business office seeking clarification and did not receive a return call until I submitted a negative review on Google. That is how they regard their clients. Seeking treatment for substance abuse is a difficult and vulnerable process. Patients deserve quality care, transparency, and timely communication. Unfortunately, based on my experience with both treatment and billing, this facility did not meet those expectations.
I just completed treatment at SGRC and the staff, the friends I gained, the preparation for the world outside of the bubble of a safe space is all top notch. I am absolutely grateful to be a newly minted alumn of St.… Gregory. If you are searching for help, no matter WHERE you are in the country, they work with your insurance, help with travel, and make you feel that you belong there. I found myself at St. Gregory and I look forward to hopefully work with SGRC as an alumni speaker in the future for many clients. Love you guys! Thank you for having my back in my darkest hours. ~Angel~
St. Gregory's changed my life! I am so grateful for the staff and the program. I graduated about 1 1/2 months ago and already my life has improved drastically. I highly recommend calling them and giving it a try if you… are ready to get help.
Making the call to St. Greg’s was one of the hardest things I have ever done. But I spoke to an intake woman there that made me feel so comfortable and supported that right there on the phone with her, I made the choice… to see it through and get home. St. Gregory’s is a fantastic place. The intake process can seem overwhelming but if you’re lucky enough to get Kassidy, she’s amazing. She is the reason I finally made the decision to help myself. The entire staff there are so amazing and caring. Thank you to all of you for all that you do. God bless you
Attending st Gregory’s was the best decision I’ve ever made, it’s giving me a new lease at life. I will forever be thankful for the staff, my peers, and the curriculum I learned while attending Saint Gregory‘s.… everything was a 10 out of 10 down to the food, the amenities, the activities, and the cleanliness.
I benefited in many ways from my 28-day in-patient time at St. Gregory Recovery Center to guide me in early sobriety. (Read below for what it can do better. My actual review is 4.5, no fault of the on-site staff for the… ding.) The program provided me with a variety of Cognitive Based Therapy (reframing thoughts), meditative-based tools to cope with urges and challenges, counseling, therapy, and nursing and medical provider time, as well as a faith-based approach for those who seek it. Staff is caring, professional, and experienced. The alumni program and app are also very helpful to me. St. Greg's also introduced me to the SMART Recovery program and supports those who prefer AA and NA programs. St. Greg's has in mind those who want smoke breaks, and twice weekly tech time for phone usage. The salad bar is well stocked, but if it's a full house, get to the salad bar early, and as is often said, "It is what you make of it!" The gym at St. Greg's is a very nice facility. It's in the old Bayard, Highschool, which St. Greg's owns and holds alumni functions in. There is plenty of work out equipment, weights, basket and pickle ball, and a sauna. Clients can go there twice a day. St. Greg's also provides transport to church, bowling, a convenience store for smokes and vapes, and to local hiking. A reverend from a local church comes in each week. The class on Virtues is spirited and helped me to take an open view to the power of spirituality in my recovery. The nursing staff was particularly helpful by keeping track of my complicated medication regimen that I came in with. My counselor was an effective listener and provided direct yet caring feedback. The sessions with art therapy were enlightening for me personally. Another favorite I found was the time with horses at a nearby stable, equine therapy. Clients can bring a comfort or service dog, or a cat. What St. Gregory Recover Center can do better: inform newcomers not to arrive during family and friends visitation time. It's too busy for staff to do intake and handle the visitation process. On the business side, it seems to me that the operation is currently disorganized. St. Gregory is owned by a company called Summit. I found the admissions staff either calling me a bit too often about entering as soon as possible, and unresponsive to later enquiries or requests. Those people appear to be off-site. However, the on-site insurance coordinator was very helpful with handling the insurance filings and keeping me informed, and the business manager helped me sort out two identical estimates of my financial responsibility documentation provided by the admissions staff. After I completed St. Gregory Recovery Center, I got an email stating my estimate of financial responsibility document had been voided in Docusign. I contacted the original sender at "St. Gregory" about what that meant (someone in admissions). I didn't get a response. I assumed that it was the duplicate that had been voided, and it was an estimate. However, a kind response is in order. My query was direct and polite. Email communications with admissions indicate a branding issue. Few came from a person identified as affiliated with St. Gregory Recovery Center. The physical facility is an aging nursing home. The windows, HVAC system, the common area, and room case goods welcome updates. The heating and cooling were erratic and overly warm. Clients opened the window in their rooms. The building is "very well used." There are trip hazards in the form of broken concrete outside (rear) by the drain. The program would benefit by having more small group sessions where quieter people feel more comfortable talking and sharing. In all, onsite staff and the program positively made the difference for me, and for that I am very grateful.
The best place to start your recovery journey. It is well structured, and they genuinely care about anyone who walks through their doors. The facility is clean, the food is great, and the staff are very welcoming. It… you are struggling like I was, choose St. Gregory's.
The staff and counselors at the facility were amazing. It was a great environment to reset in. The food was great and any issues that came up were dealt with appropriately. I really feel like I came out stronger and… more resilient. We had classes on virtues, one of which being integrity and we also talked some about greed. This is why I was taken aback by the business side of this facility when I erred in making a $500 payment and was told I would have it refunded to my bank account the very next day. I then discharged a month later and saw that it had never been refunded. When I called to enquire, the woman I spoke with stated that she wasn’t the one who said she’d refund it, nor would she give me the contact information of the person who initially said it would be refunded. Then she told me to go after my employer to collect their debt on St Gregory’s behalf. I was disrespected and treated like a lowlife when it was their mistake with my money. I can’t imagine a wealthy person with no history of addiction being treated this way. I’m feeling let down and disillusioned which has really taken some of the wind out of my sails. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly so I can make ends meet while waiting for my first pay check after returning to work. By the way, their estimated annual revenue is $19.5 million. This $500 makes no difference to them but for me it’s a matter of being able to make rent or not. Very disappointing.
My road to sobriety and happiness began here at St Gregory’s. Wilma, Jack and nurse Robyn, all so caring, genuine, and full of insight and inspiration. Like anything else difficult in life you’ll get out of it, What you… put into it. Go there with an open mind and be willing to work hard and you too can be successful and live a life free of substances. Hallelujah! thank you Saint Gregory’s You saved my life.🙏🏼 sober since 7/11/25.
I am a recent graduate of St. Gregory. I was at a low point after a relapse. I had 1 year of sobriety, and fell off. I tried different places to try to get the help I was so desperately seeking. I knew STGRC was for me… because they accepted me right away. The process of getting me in was very quick. The program in itself helped with structure, coping skills, therapy, and much more. Some of the staff were the greatest people I’ve crossed paths with. Sharing their personal stories and struggles giving me hope that I will be okay. The food was great, there are opportunities to do community service, exercise, art therapy, yoga, and some of the leaders for group did wonderful on keeping me locked in and listening. The transition out was also very helpful. Allowing me to not be set up to fail. I could say so much more! Thank you for this opportunity. You get out of it what you put in! God is amazing!
I want to thank everyone at St. Gregory Recovery Center for saving my LIFE! For the last 12 years, I was a slave to my addiction. I was "living" a very isolated life, doing EVERYTHING in my power to keep my drug use a… secret, spending my days stressing about when I would be able to take that next hit. About a year ago, I told my wife and family I had a problem, and I had planned on trying to kick the habit myself. I tried and tried and tried, but when reality became too unbearable, there was only one thing I knew how to do. Rather than facing, or trying to solve my problems, I used meth to escape. That all changed the moment I arrived at St Greg's in Bayard, Iowa. The staff are simply amazing. The counselors, techs, therapists, and nursing staff, maintenance crew, cooks, administration, housekeeping--EVERYONE is amazing. They make you feel right at home the moment you walk through those doors. The days go by quick, but they are FULL of meaningful one on one conversations, great group sessions, time to exercise, delicious food, time to reflect, laughs, and much, much more. The best part about the whole experience is the bond you make with your peers. It's tough to find the right words to describe this, but you will be amazed at how fast friendships grow at St. Greg's. Whether you're chatting before class in the seminar room, having deep conversations with your roommate, or have the whole group laughing around the dinner tables.....these are ALL moments that you will cherish forever. If you, or someone you know needs help....give these guys a call as soon as possible. Recovery is a life long process, but it starts at St. Greg's.
I went to st.gregs in 2022 after a relapse on blow. When I walked back in I had an open mind, the counselors are prior addicts a can relate to everything. Wilma’s program a checking in when you graduate shows how much… they really care and want you to succeed. I’m thankful for the opportunity for us alumni’s to go back and speak to the clients. Great place great staff
St Gregory Recovery Center completely changed my mindset and my life. I’ve been to treatment before, but at St. Greg’s the focus is on learning tools and creating a plan for life *after* treatment - and that made all… the difference! With the help of everyone on staff (and I do mean *everyone*) my time at St. Greg’s was a positive one where I felt safe, seen and heard, understood and encouraged every day. If you are looking for a treatment center where you can really tackle your addiction, reach out to St. Greg’s. It’s the first brave step you will need to really have a chance at recovery and long-term sobriety.
I went to St. Gregory’s beginning of July and graduated after 28 days. Unfortunately I did not follow through on what I knew I needed to do in order to stay sober (AA, SMART Recovery, Wilma’s after care program,… Intensive Out Patient) and ended up relapsing. I went back a month later and was welcomed with open arms, no judgement, nobody asking “what happened.” They have amazing staff that want nothing more than to see their clients succeed and the information I’ve received there is invaluable as long as I follow through on what I need to do.
This place saved my life. All of the staff members genuinely care about their clients. The structure of their program really hit home with me. They were very caring and educated on the subject matter of addiction. They… provide individual counseling and therapy as well as group sessions throughout the day. They have their own personal gym with treadmills, ellipticals, weights, basketball, volleyball, pickle ball and more. You are allowed smoke breaks as well. They have a 24 hour salad bar along with three meals per day which I really enjoyed. The residents I witnessed all did a complete 180 from the time they checked in as time went along. I give all staff and the facility an A. I Definitely recommend this place to anyone suffering from alcohol or drug addiction. I met many amazing people through this place that I now get to call my friends. Special shout out to Wilma for all that she does for Saint Gregories.😊
I loved the program so much!!! I’m definitely going to miss the daily jack attacks and all the st Greg’s staff!!! Everyone there is very very welcoming!!! I highly recommend this place for recovery!!!!
St Gregory Recover Center offers a lifechanging experience. The level of care and support for those in need of help is unparalleled. If you find yourself struggling in an endless cycle of addiction – make the commitment… and find the help you need. It’s worth it.
Incredible place especially if you like frisbee golf and goats. Changed my life for the better.
I went to St. Greg's when I was at my lowest. I was dealing with legal issues and needed to get sober for good. I went to St. Greg's voluntarily and it was the BEST choice I have ever made. I met so may good people… there. They helped me through the darkest time in my life. They made me feel at home and worthy to keep going through life. I was to the point where I did not care what happened to me. St. Greg's was the first stop in my recovery journey and I couldn't be happier. They were there for me before I got there, when I got there, and even to this day they are still there for me. I was in St. Greg's in the fall of 2023. They are still working with me to this day, making sure I am ok and that I have support. I still talk to some of the people I met while in treatment to this day and St. Greg's has made it easy to keep a support circle. We are all here for each other. It's family. And it is the best choice I ever made to go there. I hope you see this as a sign that if you are looking for somewhere to turn, somewhere to go to get support, this is the place.
St gregorys saved my life. This facility and the staff are all amazing. I found out alot about myself while i was there.I made the decision to go on my own but i know god had a hand in it. I accepted god when i was… there. Jack Dewitt is an amazing councilor if your truly ready to kick you addiction this is the place to do it. I was there for 35 days the whole month of December plus a few days. I hit i milestone this past week of 4 months completely sober. This facility works if you work the program and YOU WANT IT. I gave my testimony of my story at our church last Sunday and i had several people come up to me and ask me to help them and told me how strong i was to do that. I owe my life to St Gregory. Thank you all so much!!
St Greg’s saved my life. I went there on the verge of suicide from depression and anxiety treated with alcohol. I am an alcoholic. The comprehensive program offered there helped me to heal my mind, body and spirit… focusing on my spirituality, exercise, diet, meditation and CBT. I encourage you to really dive into each of these areas while there. I am 156 days sober today. I have been using a combination of therapy, sober apps, online and in-person AA. I’ve been working out 5 days a week- outside if possible, eating better, staying hydrated, getting enough rest and relying on my Higher Power to lead me, and I haven’t had a single true craving for alcohol since I left treatment. It has truly been a miracle. ❤️🙏🏻
This is a place full of love. All the staff was just incredible. I am very blessed to have St. Gregory recovery center to be a part of my journey.
