I was denied to have my bloodwork done by Zeb the night I was admitted 09-04-2026 and then was also denied my seizure medication by the medication window nurse the same night due to not having my bloodwork done. Which… is not the medication window nurses fault as he can't give medication without approval from the doctor, who needed the bloodwork. Then the next day I ended up having a 5 minute long seizure and could've died and had to be taken to the emergency room. No one has reached out about this very dangeous issue or even tried to call or email me about something being done. The charge nurse who denied to do my bloodwork shouldn't be allowed to work there because he could kill someone because he didn't want to bother taking my blood that night and instead wanted to wait for the phelbotomist to do it the next morning at 8am. I also heard him say to another nurse that night that he was late getting off shift that night he denied my bloodwork. So he just didn't want to bother and I paid the price for his negligence. Due to this I felt unsafe until I was moved off the unit he was on. I have never had a bad experience at Austin Oaks over the last 8 years so I was very disappointed this happened and I hope something gets done. All the other staff are incredible and very kind and were very supportive. I did let the patient advocate as well as other nurses, and techs know about this and handed the patient advocate a note directly describing the incident the day I left on 09-11-2026.
Dirty. Infested with pests. Cold food served - even dinner and lunch, it arrives cold. Bedrooms are stuck to 60* but you're only allowed 2 tiny blankets. No soap in the bathrooms allowed so no properly washing your… hands even if you have diarrhea. Restraints done improperly (I am trained to teach and implement CPI and SAMA restraint protocol thru my work). Have to hold bladder to find a staff member to unlock a door. Sometimes the wait is 15 minutes. Snacks are all carbs. No real movement time.
The worst, and most abusive place I’ve ever been in, and I was only an involuntary patient on Women’s Unit A. The girls themselves there share a sisterhood but the staff and absence of our rights is appalling. You’ll be… given a paper of your rights and watch each one be violated every day. The average length of stay, whether voluntary or not, is over a week. The only reason I was released within 4 days, was due to causing a ruckus. We took it upon ourselves to contact the news.
I was experiencing a crisis when Dell medical dropped me off here. I was scared and alone. My experience with hospitals was poor. The only time I was in one previously was shoal creek. IYKYK. - here was the opposite.… The entire staff cared with their whole being. I felt like they genuinely wanted to help me. They were careful with their words, took their time and never rushed me when I was uncomfortable. They never negatively challenged the things I said, instead helped me work through things. I never felt like I did something wrong or that I was in trouble. - The food was good. Actually edible. It wasn’t a home cooked meal but it wasn’t flavorless slop or moldy produce. If I was hungry still, they always let me have extra snacks. Never told me no. Even if it was late. I was allowed extra pillows and blankets. The showers were hot. Actual real hot water that didn’t run out after 2 minutes. I look back at my stay fondly and appreciate the help the doctors and nurses provided me. It was nice to be treated like a real human being. Thank you.
Rae, Ami, roshad, abbigail. Those are the techs and they were amazing. Eden, kate, Julie and I want to say Sarah were great therapists and group leaders. Mandie the nurse and so many more. Just wonderful.
Hung up in people's faces, disrespectful staff, bad conditions for guests, keeps guests from accessing family and medical care
Nice place....nice ppl especially Rae she goes extra hard for her patience...one bad thing they still act like grown ppl are kids
Great staff, very helpful and delicious food. They really care!
My partner is currently being held here against her will. her dietary needs have been ignored, so she has been underfed. She was provided no toiletries, and only received them after contacting me for the first time… almost 22 hours after being admitted. She is miserable, not receiving the help she expected, and is also sleep deprived from being forced to share a room with a stranger. Never ever come here for help.
I genuinely have never left a review but Ive been wanting to warn others. This place is “nicely designed” compared to many facilities but I want to bring light to some things. The food is really good here and there was… one or two techs that were kind. I was having a psychotic break and voluntarily went in. I was made fun of for my clothing by a tech and yelled at for making a remark back. Of course the typical crazy shit happened people trying to pick a fight or sexual harassment which is bound to happen. Things were covered in sticky blood and the wall had a smiley face of blood that had clearly been “cleaned” It was still there, That kind of made me more mentally unstable. I watched some crazy shit go down here and the technicians handle things extremely poorly :(. They put you on random medication that is either to strong its sedating and will take you off your needed ones and let you withdrawal in pain.Years later I am doing much better and I worked with a man who told me about working there and how he enjoyed sedating patients… Ive heard plenty of horror stories of mistreatment from here such as a kid getting his head smashed by a tech etc. If you aren’t caring for people with mental health conditions why are you even doing the job? I hate to overshare all this and its hard to but I really want to look out for other people and their loved ones. Hopefully this place has improved since 2022 because I left there much much worse when they finally let me leave.
Brought my spouse there for mental confusion. Things went down hill from there. My spouse was there for 2 weeks and came out worse than she went in. Now she is paranoid, and delusional from her experience. A day or 2… after being admitted she was moved to a different unit with no explanation. Eventually she refused to take medications or eat or drink. She wouldn't leave her room. Communication with this place is extremely poor. They never call you or return your left messages unless you escalate to upper management. The email address they provide is useless. My numerous sent messages were never replied to. I asked my spouse why she wasn't taking her medication and she said from a doctor I never saw? She never saw a doctor the whole time she was there! I had asked to speak with the doctor numerous times and I was assured by the staff on more than one occasion that he would call me. He never did! I later found out that her assigned doctor was a telehealth doctor and she never saw a doctor in person the whole time she was there!!! So a mentally confused patient is supposed to take medication from someone she has never talked to or seen? This is nuts! Psychology 101 is about establishing trust with a patient. Trust cannot be established with a virtual person. The therapists are social workers. So not a lot of help there. My wife is traumatized by her stay there and won't speak to me now because I brought her to that place. I thought I was doing the right thing. I this case it was the wrong thing.
I loved the place. I'm not someone who follows rules; it's very difficult for me, but the staff were very patient with me. It's a great place, and the medicine they gave me was 10/10; they always changed it for me.
Best mental health facility I’ve ever experienced. Staff are very helpful!! Clean environment. Nice, friendly people. Be patient with staff, they work their butts off. Mixxi, Sandra, June, Timi, Rae, Leah and Ami were… my most favorites!!! It takes a lot to work there and I respect everything they helped me with, while being there. Thank you Austin Oaks!!!
5 stars! Would check back in😉
Earned my grippies. Quality staff that were knowledgeable in their areas. Could use some kind of tumbler mixing station or other stirring option for coffee. There was also concerning water damage to the frame of the… room bathroom. It also seemed like some manner of colored wrist band for patients under 21 would be prudent so more vulnerable patients are not mobbed for cigarettes in the yard. I would consider it a preferred choice over all if I needed to return to a clinic. The staff really dod make it an easily digestible source for education on topics.
My overall experience was nice, the staff was very nice to me and so were the doctors. I felt safe the entire stay, my only complaint was how boring it was, I wish there was more to do other than watch TV and sleep, but… I completely understand it was for safety purposes. Overall I do recommend going there if it means getting help and learning something new. Thank you Austin oaks for your help!
I would not recommend sending a teenager, family member, or loved one here.
I have never felt more deceived, powerless, or traumatized by a facility in my life. My son was reportedly removed from this facility over what was described as him flirting with a girl around his own age. Whether… someone agrees with that decision or not, what happened afterward is what truly shocked me. I was told I was there for a voluntary assessment. Instead, I found myself effectively detained and prevented from leaving in a way that felt completely inconsistent with what had been explained to me. The experience was terrifying and humiliating. What makes this even worse is that I specifically informed staff about severe past trauma involving being restrained and tied down in another healthcare setting. I explained how deeply those experiences affected me and how important it was that my concerns be taken seriously. Rather than feeling heard, respected, or reassured, I felt ignored and stripped of my dignity. Facilities like this often talk about compassion, patient-centered care, and trauma-informed treatment. My experience was the exact opposite. When a person comes into a mental health setting already vulnerable and afraid, the last thing they need is to feel misled about their rights, their freedom, or what is happening to them. The emotional impact of this experience cannot be overstated. What should have been a place of support became a source of fear and distress. I left feeling that my concerns, my history, and my humanity mattered far less than institutional procedures. And to be clear, I am deeply concerned that staff may attempt to justify what happened by portraying normal behavior or ordinary concerns in the most negative possible light. That possibility is exactly why I am documenting my experience publicly. People considering this facility deserve to know that not everyone who walks through these doors feels helped. Some of us leave feeling traumatized, unheard, and profoundly disappointed. This was one of the worst healthcare experiences I have ever had, and I would strongly encourage anyone considering treatment here to ask detailed questions about patient rights, voluntary versus involuntary procedures, and how trauma histories are actually handled in practice before placing their trust in this organization.
Shut this place down. If you're not suicidal when you go in you will be by time you get out.
My family and I are very grateful to have found Austin Oaks Hospital. They helped us tremendously in a time of crisis. We had experienced services at other psychiatric hospitals in the past, but none compared to the… positive outcomes that Austin Oaks helped us achieve with our situation. We can’t say enough about the wonderful staff there. Thank you Austin Oaks!
Mixed bag. Some of the therapists gave me some really good resources, and I would recommend this facility if you're really in crisis. However, during my stay, I witnessed a fellow patient faint hard and likely concuss… herself on the tile floor, and no tech or nurse gave any sort of concern for her possible head trauma. She and other patients requested emergency medical care for her to no avail, with the night nurses actively belittling her even as she expressed headaches through the next several days. Had this been a more serious brain bleed, that patient could've bankrupted this place in court.
Thank you so much for everything you do for our daughter especially the nurses name Amanda God bless you for the nurses and every single work in this hospital you should win

I was a recent patient of the PHP program. And the staff at the oaks is fabulous. Everyone is kind thoughtful and interested in your recovery. You have to be willing to do the work. Not everything is easy. I made so many amazing connections in this program. The main therapist for the program is the kindest most understanding. The expressive therapists are great and really use games and music to help you cope with your anxiety and other issues in an effective healthy way! The nursing staff is so kind and generous! If you need immediate help I would recommend looking into this program.
