The facility address is 600 Pemberton Brown Mills Road, Pemberton, New Jersey, 8068. This address falls in Burlington County. The catchment reaches beyond the city itself. How someone gets there matters more than it sounds: travel is one of the commonest reasons a course of treatment stops partway.

Someone in there assaulted me. They do not care about the people in there. They are just trying to get rest to get better and the staff makes it worse. Dr. Miller is the only one was nice to me. I didn't see him or a… week. The food is puttied the staff is incompetent and the other patients are scary. Through the grace of God I got out. I think I have PTSD because of that place and every day since I got out I am grateful every day I am out of that place.

They warehouse and starve patients. Patients are involuntarily committed to force attendance

Shut this place down! A person hung themselves in here a couple years back and he hung there for three hours before staff knew. The family sues but it’s very hush hush. Because of this event the staff needs to check on… you every 15 minutes. Between that the jail house portions of food, the fights every other day, and someone constantly yelling at staff members, in addition to the crying spells of other patients and it quickly starts to feel like an insane asylum rather than a medical place for mental health. The staff don’t care about their jobs and you can see it on their face.

Kevin from the leadership team, you are hilarious and incredibly rude (you sure like to play the hang up game). How are you or Buttonwood an adequate resource to help loved ones with mental disorders?! You don't return… calls and I'm concerned that you are not taking the safety of your patients into consideration. Again, your communication is beyond horrific! Not enough words to describe this place and it's staff. Please, for goodness sake, people try to convince your loved one's to be voluntarily admitted because this is LAST place they want to go if they are admitted involuntarily. Unless they like the jail/ prison experience, this is not it!

Terrible. Stay away from here if you can help it. It took a week to see the doctor. I told her I take benzos and was in withdrawal really bad. I have a legit prescription at home. They cared less because it's a control… substance. I want a direct apology from them.

I give only one star do to the lack of communication leave a voice mail it states it will return a call within 24 or 48 hours it took me to call the nurse station to run to the social worker to deliver a very important… matter after 5 days calling than said only leave one voicemail when I got criticized about leaving more than one

i just came back from buttonwood yesterday and i’m up at 6 am because of the nightmares i had about that place. i would say they treat their patients like prisoners but i honestly think prisoners are treated better. i… lost over 10 lbs from not being able to eat their food. i’m a vegetarian and they barely had options for me, and the options they did have were genuinely disgusting. some of the food was literally raw. they made me take 600 grams of lithium everyday and said if i didn’t take it they would tie me down and force me to take it. i had horrible side effects from it since its a very strong medication and quite a large dose. it’s also used to treat bipolar disorder which i don’t have but they tried to diagnose me with because they didn’t understand my actual diagnosis, borderline personality disorder. this place is actual hell on earth and i am traumatized.

It’s been 4-5 years since I was admitted into Buttonwood. I came back to check reviews because this place still haunts me. We were treated like prisoners. The patients who were anything more than calm were highly… sedated. I dropped a lot of weight from the short stay I was there. Their food was disgusting plus I already had a hard time keeping food down so I opted for ensure drinks. But even then they told me they weren’t really “allowed” to give me them. We had to wake up early in the morning to be able to sign up (and choose the time) for a shower and a phone call. I remember vomiting so hard I had an accident and asked to shower. They asked “did you do this on purpose so you could shower?” So dehumanizing. And I also had to let them know their showers had bedbugs! They asked me which one I used and I showed them the plethora of small black dots on the corners of the ceiling. They tapped off that individual shower room and sprayed it. But that won’t get rid of them all you have to spray the entire place otherwise they will just move to another location. I volunteered to go there because I thought it would help during a very difficult time in my life. And even though it was voluntary, when I got there and saw the conditions and how they treated everyone I asked to leave. They told me I WASNT voluntary. It was the most horrifying 10 days of my life. All it taught me was to be compliant and tell them what they wanted to hear so I could leave. Please please don’t send your family here if you have the option. Years later and I’m still traumatized by the thought of it. Only good things: the music therapist and one overnight woman.

My Mom went to this hospital and the hospital staff treated her with dignity and respect. Dr. Sady listened to all of my concerns and took all of my recommendations seriously as I have been her caretaker for the last… ten years. Tim Barry the social worker was very considerate and helpful. He also was great at communication. I can only say great things about this hospital.

This hospital traumatized me, and is the worst experience I have ever had in my life. I became malnourished and weighed 90 pounds during my stay. I have certain dietary restrictions that I informed them of upon my… arrival. I was there for 14 days, and nothing was even addressed about my dietary needs until 7 days in. My mother and boyfriend called this facility everyday begging for them to give me food, as I was starving. They had to threaten legal action in order for anything to be done. The staff (aside from 2 nurses and a music teacher who were lovely) is terrible. They do not treat the patients like human beings and lack the maturity, knowledge, and emotional intelligence to be working with people who are deeply sick and suffering. Their inability to keep their patients safe was disturbing. The medication they put me on caused my heart rate to skyrocket and my anxiety increased. This medication caused abnormal ekg results and all they did was give me a referral to see the cardiologist upon my release. They did nothing to adjust or change my medication, even though I was experiencing a very serious negative side effect. The doctors told me that if I switched medications or refused to take it, I would be kept there longer. There was no therapy for patients, only group sessions that were not even close to resembling therapy. The heat was turned up way too high and during the day it was sweltering. The conditions of this hospital are inhumane. I was threatened by multiple patients with violence. I worried for my safety and well being every day I was there. Nothing was done to rectify that. My social worker could not care less about finding appropriate outpatient treatment for me and the doctors did not listen to my concerns. They did not provide a safe environment for me to heal. My stay at this facility only added more trauma, and did not help me in the slightest. Please look into different facilities if you need help. Please don’t put your loved ones here.

It took me a long time to put my thoughts of this place in a review- my mother, who suffered dementia and who passed 5 years ago, was sent here on 2 occasions for medicine regulation for her behavior by her nursing… home. Her first 2 week stay was just ok, but the second visit was a nightmare. Most of her belongings were stolen, clothes and glasses. She was heavily drugged and not properly supervised. She fell and suffered a brain bleed . Visitation times were very limited so it was very hard to keep tabs on my mom while she was there. I did file a complaint with the states ombudsman office. If your loved ones nursing home is sending them to this facility then they don’t know what they’re doing and it’s not the correct placement. I moved my mom to a another nursing home with a memory care unit which treated her appropriately and with dignity.

A loved one is currently a patient there as has been abused since he was admitted. They've kept disability aids away from him, such as his leg brace and denied his glasses . We were harrassed by staff during our… visitation; Was being told physical contact was allowed and then screamed at for it. If something isnt allowed, that's understandable. But active aggression from staff is completely unacceptable. I'm doing everything I can to help him leave this place; Do not bring your family here.

I've heard nothing but horror stories about this place. And the negligence is unexceptable. And it's funny for all the bad reviews Buttonwood has staff reply back with out and out lies. Outrageous lies. Mental health is… severe. No one will ever know the hateful scourge that people go through. If staff lacks the knowledge of mental health issues and have no compassion they should find another job. Peoples live are at risk. Buttonwood should be ashamed of themselves.

Ended my hospitalizations that are unnecessary and is mental health based for years (due to my safe mental health supplements for brain health that my Psychiatric Nurse says is all good to take and is good for me) got… me away from my home away from my family. I only have my Dad and brother to take care of me and help me find a family. To be a wife. And love my Christian walk with God. My family and I had a good life in previous years, very little abuse. There were sermons upon sermons on tv, two religious Bibles, and my own YA books to read and I felt happy playing baseball with a random patient. I recovered from the heavily wrong medication and nutrition and I feel better now. It’s a rare case about healing at a Psych Ward. I just felt like it years ago, to go to a Psych Ward. Bad decision. This was a home. I felt happy there. I could stay for a long time. 3 months. I am feeling right about the whole 2 weeks, and even the COVID issues because I recovered. I liked that it was a voluntary hospital. I live this place for any patients and I thought about becoming a psychologist and going away to a school in New York City. Good place. Thank you for letting me stay here. Have an excellent day.

My daughter was just admitted last night, but already, it has been a positive experience for her (and for me.) They've been kind and compassionate and have answered every question I have asked with no negative attitude… (like I have experienced so many times in the past when trying to advocate for my daughter.)

This was one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made. I thought I was doing the right thing by voluntarily getting help. I’m my time at Buttonwood I received no counseling or treatment for my issues. The only thing they… did was adjust my meds. I was hit by another patient they did nothing to reprimand this man except give him a one on one. I felt unsafe not at all comfortable. The one thing that made my stay better was the overnight nurse’s, I woke up every night at 4am they were the best at listening, caring. You know what sucks there overnight so no one sees them!!! I will personally thank all overnight staff they helped me more than anyone in that facility. I wouldn’t wish this place on my worst enemy. This place is a joke . OH

My husband was there for 3.5 weeks for depression . They did nothing for him , he laid in bed most of the time, Drs were uncaring, a consult consisted of the Dr peeking his head in the room asking how he was. He was… tried on one medication. Family was never included in the care team meetings. Social worker and Director of nursing are a joke. They don’t even know their patients or what’s going on with them. I was given wrong information on more than one occasion. This was a waste of 3 weeks

Do not waste your time, this facility can only hurt people. Staff is extremely rude, dishonest and I have never met less experienced people who are not properly trained to be in mental health. Buttonwood is not equipped… to be a behavioral health hospital and IS UNSAFE. Their favorite thing to do is to speak to family members even after you request them not too. No visitation allowed even by request. Simply, there is no family therapy or any other therapy at all. This hospital has violated my rights and I am thinking about consulting an attorney.
