Disgusting, ignorant prison. The psychs are out of date, no actual doctors on staff, night staff is inhumane, unsanitary conditions. Do not come here.
Awful experience. RUN LIKE A PRISON!. Couldn't get well here if you tried. Would NEVER put a family member here. From hostile staff, rules that change from shift to shift, staff that instigates with you, groups that… don't help with realistic problems , no one-on-one therapy, shared rooms with geriatric and young adults, you can't even begin to get the care you need at this place. They dehumanize you and treat you like a child. Never even touched on why the reasons I was there or received therapy for it. Doctors that just stick you on meds and don't care to listen. Patient Advocate is hostile and does nothing to help. Find care somewhere else!
Never go here. Horrible staff, rude and talks to the patients like they are 2nd class citizens. They threaten the patients saying things like “if you don’t get your vitals you don’t eat” . That’s inhumane. They threaten… to involuntarily commit. The facility is disgustingly dirty. Floors are so dirty, every unit has a foul smell. Crazy thing is the staff, upper management, and the doctors all know it’s dirty but do nothing about it. Way too many patients on one unit. It’s so loud, there was always fights between staff and patients. They’d let patients blast music without considering the other patients. Nurses had to tell them to turn it down as they were giving medications, because they literally couldn’t hear me and some of the more calmer patients, like myself. When I got there I immediately sighed a 48, but they discarded that and kept me there longer, not as an involuntary patient. But wanting to not look bad for not following rules and regulations. Which I constantly would state to them about the facility. They didn’t like that I knew my rights. So I think they were holding me hostage because they kept ignoring my 48 that I reminded them of as retaliation. Knowing if I got upset and acted out out of my frustration. which is not me, can be used used against me and reason to keep me. The day of my discharge I could not find one of my debit cards, so I told the unit manager who was discharging me, she ignored me and got upset and literally walked away saying “she didn’t had time for that.” That she had other important things to attend to. Which was very dismissive and rude. Don’t go here! I was told it was a great facility only to be met with the opposite. Drab and disgusting. 🤢🤮.
Overall a decent experience. Mark in unit 4 was amazing. Extremely positive and respectful The food was hit or miss. I feel like there could have been better de-escalation training as there was constant tension between… certain patients. Some of the group sessions were helpful for mental health and some were useless. I also feel like there should be more education when it comes to medication changes/ adjustments.
Overall my experience here was not too bad. Food was decent, I really enjoyed the groups, and I felt heard most of the time by staff members. Food was meh depending on the day. Bad things were that some staff really… need better verbal de escalation skills. I witnessed way too much of staff and patients screaming at each other. Thank you to Miss Lisa, Susan, Gia, Georgina, Taryn, Terri, Kevin, Shannon, Kari, and Sydney for making my time here manageable.
Chris U was a great nurse, and doctor b was super empathetic and helpful. My experience with my social worker wasn't the best, but overall it was a pretty good experience!
Very poor relations with family of patients
The staff are phenomenal. Everyone has been so patient and understanding.
Joke of a mental hospital. Terrible staff, disgusting conditions. The only good thing about this place is the other patients. The psychiatrist and social worker only see you for less than a minute each day and will… twist your words to keep you there longer for more money. They will keep adding or changing meds even if you dont agree. Known as a "short term facility" but majority of the patients have been there for MONTHS. Yes, there is a 48 hour document that let's you leave early BUT they will deny it and commit you. The psychiatrist is miserable, takes half days all the time and said, "i f**king wish someone would replace me. I hate this job." Some nurses are good and actually try, the other half have no idea whats going on. Had a physical illness and no one let me see an actual doctor for weeks until someone on the outside complained to the CEO. The food is actually disgusting. Fruit flies everywhere. All the floors are dirty and some bathrooms have mold. If your loved one gets sent here, lawyers seem to be the only thing that gets them out.
Not impressive with facility at all. They are in the business of holding patients longer the medically needed. My son went here voluntarily. Started doing better.. asked to leave & they threaten to involuntarily commit,… which would hold you there 3-4 weeks more. Also only seen psychiatrist for about 3 times in week for 1-2 minutes.
Pending follow up. Prayers.
Smells Horrible. Rude Workers, Nurses and Doctors. They don't let you leave with your own prescribed medications. They lie to you. It's either freezing cold in there or hot as heck in there.
Poor treatment
11 years ago. 11 years ago I was in a outpatient therapy group here. I was 16 years old. I came from an extreme abuse background and was forced to commit suicide by mother. This caused me to go completely mute. This… place does group therapy and the therapist at the time Arte (I’m praying he doesn’t work here still. The things I saw him to do young women have scarred me) decided it was a great idea to put me in the middle of the room in a chair and have all the other kids asking me why I wasn’t talking, telling me to just talk, and that’s I’m so weird. This was some sorta of “therapy” for me. I guess it was supposed to force me to talk? Well obviously that didn’t work and the trauma became so intense that I have multiple chronic illnesses. This place made me lose all hope. I see this place as the place where my soul died. Reply: I don’t want to work with you guys on anything. I would appreciate an apology rather than just telling me to contact you privately. You guys destroyed my life.
Do not go here, do not send anyone you know here, it will not help. Was transferred from the ER after being there for about a day to Hampton. ER did not give me any of my medications, got to Hampton on a Saturday at… around 2pm, they told me they couldn’t give me my medications (SNRI and antipsychotic) because “there was no doctor there”. The specific SNRI I am on is known to have intense withdrawal symptoms, so combine that with the already hard situation of being in a mental hospital for the first 24 hours caused some intense anxiety. They told me the only medication they could give me was an anti anxiety, but prefaced it by basically saying if I asked again it would look like I’m drug seeking. Started having an anxiety attack and asked any of the 3 nurses at the station to talk, they told me to sit and take deep breaths. Sucked it up and got through the first day, only to talk to a nurse about it to ask for advice and she told me that it’s because I don’t have any coping skills and need to learn. I thought places like this were supposed to help you with providing healthy coping tools? Honestly set me up for a bad experience and caused me to not trust the staff. Do better.
I am writing with grave concern regarding my son's recent discharge from specialized care. His treating psychiatrists unanimously agree he still requires a comprehensive, long-term therapeutic environment, yet he was… discharged. He is now in a group home, which is entirely inadequate and unsafe for his complex mental health needs, lacking essential specialized supervision and therapeutic interventions. This placement actively jeopardizes his progress and safety. I urgently request an immediate review of his case to secure a suitable long-term facility that can provide the specialized and continuous care his medical professionals advocate for. I am available to provide further details and discuss solutions.
Truly did not think there was help for me. Two days at Hampton got me on the right track and I was out in 10 days as a brand new person. I loved the staff and food wasn’t bad.
I could write paragraphs about how this place id terrible as an inpatient facility. I do think that the whole mentality could be summarized by this however: The first day I was there I noticed that there were several… ants everywhere. I pointed this out to a nurse and how I thought it was disgusting. She then told me it wasn't a problem, said to me "You must have never lived in a house with an ant infestation before if you think thats disgusting" (I have) , and treated me as if I was being argumentive when I told her that I personally still found it disgusting. The rest of the staff were not any better. From psychatrists to tecs. And the rest of my stay here was given at the same level of care. Edit: I just got a letter that my insurance repeal was denied because my stay was not "medically nesccary". This is something I told the PHP pyschatrist who wished to admit me. I could not access a second opinion. Which means I would of been involuntary and it would of gone on my legal record if I had not agreed to go. It also discussed a disorder which was not disclosed to me at time of depature that I only properly exhibt a single symptom of. (which I have since had several psychatrists agree that I do not properly match the criteria and been told by other staff members there that they overdiagnose this disorder) They also discharged me to an outpatient which does not match my needs at all. I've been repeatdly told that this is one of the "better" Inpatients and PHPs in South Jersey. Needless to say I will not be pursuing psychatric help anymore as their faclities exasperated my issues.
I really didn't want to go but I needed too and glad I was forced too. Most of the staff was nice and cool. Most of the meetings was good and the food wasn't bad .. i had a good experience and im sober and my mental… health is in a better place. I would have given 5 stars but I didn't because the rooms was very cold on the men's side at night time thats my only complaint.
USA ALL THE WAY
I wish I could give these people a minus one star These people are cold as fish they’re ignorant I don’t know how they treat people. They never meant to illness, but I would never trust these people from the top down to… the bottom. They’re just some rude ignorant people. Do not ever take loved one in the space don’t take anybody to the place if you love them this is not the place. They lie they Unprofessional and guess what they’re never wrong
The worst experience. No security. Violent patients allowed to mix with other patients after violent episodes. Patients wonder into your room at night while you sleep. Standing over you touching you. Not safe
I (minor) was a patient here back in October 2025. This place was absolutely disgusting there were dead and alive bugs through out the entire building including the patients rooms and the cafeteria. I don't even want to… know what the actual kitchen looked like if dead bugs were in the cafeteria. When I first arrived and was able to shower for the first time in days since before being brought to the er, it was very clear that they had not cleaned the room and connecting bathroom since there was toothpaste residue in the sink and a used washcloth in the shower (the room was empty when I arrived so it couldn't have been from my none existing roommate). Multiple nights I was woken up by staff at unknown times by them shinning a flashlight directly in my face then questioned quite rudely as to why I was awake. The staff had also said that I was "uncooperative" because I had slipped up on mutual occasions and cursed at 17, 3 months from turning 18. Most of the staff here were extremely rude and unhelpful. The dr that determines when you get discharged only sees you maybe if your lucky twice a week. Not once while I was a patient did I ever talk about my feelings or why I was even there to a dr, nurse or even any of the staff. There was no one on one therapy of any kind it was only group "therapy" which I would not call it therapy in the slightest. There was multiple times where a family member or friend (authorized) would call the facility to talk to me and they would be met with the staff yelling at them or just simply dismissing them. Phone time was about an hour spilt up through out the day but with so many of us most of us weren't able to make a call in the allotted time and we were told we were out of luck. We could only see our parents/friends/siblings if 18 on Tuesdays for maybe an hour depending on when they got there. We had to sit across the table from them and were only allowed to hug them at the end which was always very rushed, visitation days were harmful rather then helpful most times. The day before my discharge e had a family meeting with a social worker (Family otp) where to go home I had to say something I was not when asked why I was admitted in the first place, not that I was suicidal among other things no I had to say I was admitted because I was apparently "obsessed with boys" when I had only dated/talked to ONE person but the social worker wouldn't now that because they didn't talk to me about it they only took what my father had said to them didn't fact check anything just followed what my father had said to them as if it was law. Every morning and night the staff would ask repetitive questions about how we were all feeling/doing so very quickly we all learned that to leave we'd have to lie just so we could go home. Not one person that I was with in Hampton got BETTER while getting treatment here if anything we all got worse. When I was finally discharged they did not follow up on my after care treatment which my father decided I didn't need it even though this "hospital" recommended. Don't even get me started on the "teacher" we had that woman was so challenged that I couldn't get to my school work for over a week so she had me in 12th grade doing basic math and when I say basic I mean it. I can go on and on about how horrible this place is. I beg of you if you're reading this DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE IT WILL NOT HELP THEM!
