Managed Health Network (MHN)

Rehabs That Take MHN

Managed Health Network is the behavioral health arm of Health Net, administering mental health and substance use benefits and running employee assistance programs for employers and public agencies. It holds the provider network and makes the medical necessity decision on a residential admission rather than selling you insurance.

If your employer offers counseling through MHN, that is a confidential route into assessment that does not begin with an insurance claim. Treatment beyond those sessions is paid by your health plan, so you will usually need both conversations. That distinction is worth settling before anything else.

Why Trust RehabSeekers.com?

RehabSeekers is an independent behavioral health directory covering drug and alcohol addiction and mental health treatment providers.

Every listing has a source: an official register, a licensing record, or details the facility sent us.

Credentials shown honestly. Accreditation, licensing and registration listed separately.

Reviews shown exactly as written. Never edited, never removed because a facility asked.

No commission, no referral fees. Nothing a facility pays for changes where it appears.

Contact details always go direct. Calls reach the facility itself, never a call centre.

Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does MHN cover rehab?

Yes, though the benefit is now administered by Health Net rather than MHN. Medically necessary substance use disorder treatment is covered across settings that range from a few hours a day, several days a week, up to 24-hour care, plus treatment follow-up and aftercare.

What you pay depends on your specific Health Net plan; the plan's Evidence of Coverage sets the benefit for each level of care.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Is MHN the same as Health Net?

No, but they are closely linked. Managed Health Network is a Health Net subsidiary that administered the plan's mental health and substance use benefits until December 31, 2023. Since January 1, 2024 Health Net arranges them directly, under the name Health Net's Behavioral Health Services.

Health Net stated that members saw no change to their behavioral health benefits or to the provider network because of the move.

Private Insurance Acceptedhttps://rehabseekers.com/insurance-accepted/private-insurance-accepted/
Does MHN cover detox?

Yes. Residential detoxification and substance use disorder recovery hospitals are both facility types in the behavioral health network that Health Net now runs, following MHN. All facility-based behavioral health care needs prior authorization, and the plan's Evidence of Coverage sets what is paid.

The behavioral health line for members is (888) 426-0030, TTY 711, free and confidential, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

What MHN Does

Managed Health Network is the behavioral health company within Health Net, itself part of Centene. It administers mental health and substance use benefits for health plans and employers, and separately runs employee assistance programs for a large number of employers and public agencies, particularly in California.

It does not issue insurance. It holds the behavioral provider network, applies medical necessity criteria and authorizes admissions on behalf of whoever carries the risk.

Two Different Doors

If MHN provides your employee assistance program, you have a set number of free confidential counseling sessions that do not require a diagnosis or generate an insurance claim. If MHN also administers your behavioral health benefit, it is the entity authorizing treatment beyond that. Establish which applies, because the first is a door you can walk through today and the second is a process.

Using the EAP First

For someone unsure whether they have a problem, or unwilling to start with a claim, the EAP is a legitimate first step. Sessions are confidential, your employer receives aggregate usage data rather than names, and a counselor can assess and refer into treatment.
