I had an extremely disappointing experience at the women’s facility and would not recommend it. The men’s house and programming also seemed significantly different. Admissions made promises about the program that proved… untrue. Phone access was unavailable for the first 72 hours and remained very limited afterward. Beach access was also far more restricted than expected despite the facility’s proximity. The living conditions were concerning. There was no air conditioning, bedrooms were routinely over 80 degrees at night, and dusty air filters appeared overdue for replacement. I encountered cockroaches, flies, and maggots in the trash, and supplies were often not stocked. Patients were expected to handle chores that should have been staff responsibilities, including taking out others’ trash, washing others’ dishes, and cleaning the clinicians’ office. The program was disorganized. Schedules and services frequently changed without adequate communication. When concerns were raised, staff often reframed the resulting uncertainty as something patients needed to work on rather than addressing the underlying problems. Comments such as “Sometimes things don’t go your way” felt dismissive. I also found the clinical environment concerning. Some interactions felt invalidating, personally critical, and unprofessional. The programming often resembled “attack therapy” rather than constructive treatment. Staff and clinicians referring to themselves as “normies” felt inappropriate and alienating. The doctor was not onsite, and a nurse was only present when a detox patient was there. Grocery and Target trips involved limited funds and restrictive rules, making it difficult to eat according to my preferences. Staff boundaries were also uncomfortable. Staff discussed workplace stress, dating, and other personal matters with patients, and some appeared to take their frustrations out on patients. Staff also wore facility badges in public, which raised privacy concerns. Separating eating-disorder and substance-use patients limited programming and opportunities to learn from one another. Nutritional counseling was especially frustrating: after I explained that I had been vegetarian for 11 years for personal reasons, the dietician attributed it to an eating disorder. That conclusion was later determined to be inaccurate. I had significantly better experiences at Ascendant, the sister facility, and Caron. Some support staff and the alumni coordinator were excellent, but overall, the gap between admissions promises and my experience was substantial. Several aspects of my experience also raised concerns that I believe warrant review by the relevant state licensing and regulatory authorities. These include the living conditions, cleanliness and maintenance issues, limited onsite medical coverage, staff boundaries and professionalism, privacy practices, inconsistent programming, and the way patient concerns were handled. I encourage the state to review whether the facility’s staffing, safety, sanitation, clinical, privacy, and patient-care practices comply with applicable requirements. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Oceans.

I’m so grateful to have this experience with Oceans that I get to see life with a new pair of lenses. The way I can think and look at situations just seem like everything is going to be ok. From top to bottom they made… me feel like I was family and I was top priority I’m happy with my decision to come here I’m ready for my journey.

Ocean recovery has truly saved my life. I started my journey very unsure of my commitment to sobriety and getting better and my time at Oceans only made my commitment to recovery stronger. I really needed help with… substance abuse as well as an eating disorder. My team was amazing in helping navigate a new way of life. I had been struggling with both disorders for years and I had begun to lose hope that I could ever find a better way to live. Today I am a year and 2 months sober from substances and abstinent from eating disorder behaviors. I moved back home after completing both the inpatient and IOP programs offered at ocean recovery. I also am enrolled in college and am on track to complete my degree and the team at Oceans was crucial in helping me get back on track with my education. This place also did so much in helping me repair my relationships with my family members and I can say our family dynamic has never been healthier. I will never take this experience for granted and there’s no way I can repay everything I gained and continue to gain from fully throwing myself into this treatment experience.

Honestly, this place is legit. I have been to other treatment centers and this one is unique. The groups plus staff are great and extremely supportive. My treatment plan was tailored to my needs. My case manager,… therapist, and psychiatrist all helped me since day one and throughout my stay. I took a lot from our daily groups and feel that I have learned more in my stay at Ocean Recovery than I initially expected. I recommend anyone who is struggling to contact them and they will help you hands down. A big thank you to all staff at Ocean Recovery.

Amazing experience here, I have been to several treatment centers and this one by far has been the most transformative. If you are ready to attend your final treatment center this is absolutely the place. This program… gives the tools and support to create a brand new life with no reference to the old life you were living. Being nervous, scared, or unsure is all welcomed here because we are all on the same page. I couldn’t recommend a better place. Right next to the ocean, amazing men, and great staff. Shout out to Reid H (case manager) Bruce (Case manager) and Jalil (Therapist). Amazing doctor Dr Bellman as well. Get your life together and attend Oceans Recovery. You can do it

Best decision I’ve made for my recovery. The staff really cares and the programs were meaningful and challenged me to dig deep. It was time well spent and that’s all aside from the awesome location by the beach. There’s… a strong emphasis on community and relapse prevention as well as building a solid foundation and network through AA. The staff makes it possible to really focus on recovery by assisting with outside needs like applying for disability or legal issues. My 60 days in treatment were awesome and I would’ve stayed longer if insurance allowed.

Place should honestly be shut down it's a sister facility to ascendant New York after I got kicked out of there they convinced me to go all the way to California for treatment.... I came there being prescribed 6 mg a… day of Klonopin and 16 mg a day of Subutex... Dr bellman proceeded to tell me that unfortunately they can't taper me off of both so that I had to make a choice benzo taper or Suboxone taper... Because I didn't want to have a seizure I chose the benzo taper which consisted of a 4-day Valium taper which I believe started at 30 mg which is equivalent to like 1 mg of klonopin. I was sick as a dog couldn't sleep for 10 days and after an incident where I discovered the staff forgot to confiscate my rx Ambien from my suitcase. Since I hadn't slept in 10 days obviously I took the pills regrettably I did share them with another client and it was a whole thing but basically I was given an ultimatum that if I were to be allowed to stay at this facility I would be forced to take mood stabilizers and antipsychotics. I told them I would think about it went up to my room for 15 minutes packed my bags used my United airline points and flew back to New York sick as a dog and because my immune system was suppressed I got a severe case of covid on the flight home that landed me in the hospital for dehydration and diarrhea. Thankfully when I got home I had some of my medication at my apartment and I was able to taper myself off slowly. Oh yeah then they tried to charge me $500 to send me my clothes back 😂 If you care about your loved ones do not send them to this place and honestly when I'm in a place where I can afford it I'm going to get a lawyer and submit a complaint to the medical boards in California as well because of what happened there... Addicts need healing. Not medical malpractice. I hope that this review is informative and helps anybody before they go through what I went through. Because truly no one should have to go through what I went through. Shame on you ocean recovery.

I entered Oceans Recovery on June 9, 2025, after struggling with alcohol addiction that had developed over the previous couple of years. I found myself trapped in a cycle that I could not break on my own. I knew I… needed help, and I am incredibly grateful that there were people who knew exactly how to help me find freedom. Leaving my beautiful home, my loving husband, and my family was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but it was also one of the best decisions I have ever made. At Oceans Recovery, I found a safe, peaceful, and beautiful environment right by the beach where I could focus entirely on healing. More importantly, I found compassionate, knowledgeable, and dedicated staff who genuinely cared about my recovery and well-being. The support, guidance, and tools I received during my stay changed the course of my life. During my time at Oceans, something remarkable happened, the obsession to drink was removed. What once felt impossible became possible. After completing treatment, I continued my recovery journey through an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), was baptized, graduated from my church’s recovery program, and now have the privilege of leading other women through the recovery steps at my church. On June 5, 2026, I celebrated one year of sobriety, something that once seemed completely out of reach. By the grace of God, I have remained sober and continue to experience the freedom that began during my stay at Oceans. I will forever be grateful for the people, the experience, and the hope I found there. Their impact reaches far beyond the time I spent in treatment. Oceans Recovery helped give me the foundation for a new life, and for that, I can never thank them enough. To anyone considering treatment, recovery does take work. You have to be willing to prioritize your health and your healing. As someone who did not know how to help herself, I learned how to rely on people who did. Trust the process, be honest, stay willing, and put in the work. You are loved, you are valued, and you are worth the effort it takes to build a life free from the chains of addiction. Freedom is possible!

Ocean Recovery honestly saved my life. The support and love from clinicians and staff is overflowing. The eating disorder recovery I have received here has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done in my life; not… only with the meal plan and relearning to feed myself, but the support with the Food Groups and talking about it out loud with so much support — truly amazing. With the help of therapists and process groups here, I have worked through so many childhood traumas and other life events which ultimately gets to the root of why I am an alcoholic. Ocean Recovery is thorough and met my needs wherever I needed. Highly, highly recommend and I wouldn’t have the life I have now without the program.

Exceptional place! Everything was amazing. From all of the staff, who genuinely care about their clients and were incredibly helpful in taking care of things we had going on outside. All the way to the therapy received… and giving the tolls needed to be able to work through past traumas and to be able to sit through emotions instead of numbing them out. Truly the best therapy I've ever received. On top of all that being able to get out to the beach as often as we can to blow off some steam and taking us out on awesome activities to show us its possible to have fun while in sobriety. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this place. Truly life changing and life saving!

Oceans recovery exceeded expectations. Professional and highly trained staff made me feel safe and comfortable. I related to all of the group discussions and learned a lot about myself and how to cope with my illness.… The residential spaces are modern and well kept. The kitchens and appliances are awesome. If I could rate this place -stars I would. I am surprised ive never written a review here. It haunts my dreams, literally. I was at Sierra tucson in 2009-2010 and went to aftercare at oceans. From the get go everyone… hated me because I said something about Kathy only wanting money. I stand by that statement. This ted guy and the nutritionist had it out for me. My therapist told me if I didnt recover from my alcohol abuse and ed that I would move on to iv drugs (which i never did). It was crazy. Id never been treated that way in my entire life. I too was sent to the behavioral rehab (yellowstone) twice which I actually liked more than oceans. I was attacked multiple times in groups by my peers just because I didnt agree with their philosophies. I truly believe oceans made my mental state worse. Kathy is a horrible human.
