Several accounts that describe the same thing tell you more than a single strong opinion.
After a stressful experience elsewhere with an enlarged thyroid that was affecting my voice and swallowing, I came to Phelps Hospital and Northwell Health for a second opinion. The care I received from start to finish… was extraordinary. Every physician I worked with—Dr. Hellerman (Endocrinology), Dr. Newman (Surgery), and Dr. Indich (Primary Care)—took the time to truly listen, explain everything clearly, and treat me like a person rather than a chart number. The team at Yorktown Imaging was equally wonderful, keeping my spirits high and putting me at ease during my pre-op MRI. On surgery day, everything ran like clockwork. Admissions was private and efficient. A patient care concierge explained the tracker system to my husband so he could follow my progress, and my prep nurse was attentive, communicative, and made sure he could sit with me before surgery. Dr. Newman took extra care to place the incision where scarring would be minimal, and the anesthesiology team kept me completely informed. Recovery staff managed my post-anesthesia nausea immediately, and Dr. Newman checked on me before I was discharged to rest at home. Post-op follow-up has been fantastic—calls were returned promptly, and one week out I have minimal pain, zero complications, and feel better every day. Thank you to the entire Phelps team for your skill, warmth, and genuine patient-first culture!
the staff are SO RUDEE OMGGG . I’m not even an adult I’m a kid and just have to not let this go. I was neglected in there and the staff were just plain so rude oh my god. ? like I’m saying to the nurses this hurts stop… and they just keep going? And then they judge me for being sick. U guys are embarrassing 😭😭except for the guy at the front that held the door for everyone. You a real one!
Ah the good old make the social media interns write good reviews to cover up how terrible of a place this is. The doctors are not only inhumane, but lazy, incompetent and embarrassing. Plus they screw up and lie to… cover what they did. The ICU nurses were good. The doctors can’t even give you an intelligent answer. I asked regarding a test and was called “delusional.” So much for care. They ship patients floor to floor without informing families because they don’t know how to deal with a patient…or want to. Their own staff told me that. You’re better off walking into the Taconic; don’t bring your loved ones here. It’s as if they couldn’t find real doctors and hired actors. Their “case managers” are also and embarrassment as well. Just shut down and do everyone a favor.
It's an excellent hospital.
I recently gave birth at Phelps and my experience was so-so. Some of the nurses were nice, but some were not. The biggest issue I had was with breastfeeding and the comments a nurse, a midwife, and a lactation… consultant made about it. It was only the 2nd day after I gave birth, and my baby was crying. These three people kept making comments about me not being able to make enough milk or colostrum, saying that was the reason my baby was crying. I asked the midwife if most women make more milk on the 2nd day, and she said no. So, what the heck? There was a very rude nurse who threatened me, saying I had to give my baby formula or else it would affect their discharge date. Because of this, I felt I had no option but to give formula. One of the lactation consultants, when she first looked at my breasts, said that if your breasts are spaced out a bit, then I probably wouldn't make much milk. This comment made me worry a lot because my plan was to only breastfeed and not use formula. Also, hearing this on the 2nd day after birth was hurtful. Aside from these issues, I had gone to the hospital tour prior to giving birth. At the tour, I was told that they did intermittent heart monitoring for the baby. However, during labor, they forced me to keep it on the whole time. I asked them to please remove it because it was very uncomfortable and painful for me to have it on, but they said they couldn't. I hope future new moms are treated with more kindness and respect.
This hospital is yet another scam in the American healthcare system. I gave birth here in May and not only did they not have a room available (they only have 4??), after an hour of my being there they then claimed one… was being cleaned for me and would be ready an hour from then. I labored in triage which is a bathroom-less room and an hour later gave birth by pooping all over my child's face, right after they told me the proper room was still not ready. They charged me about $3k for the fancy labor & delivery room. Once in recovery, I asked for my child to be bathed-the nurses refused. She was literally covered in crap. Once night hit -and I'm epileptic and had been awake over 40hrs-I asked that my child be taken to the nursery. I was told "we don't have a nursery" funny, website says you do? And so does my child's bill. So now I'm paying another $3k for a service that I didn't get the advantage of using and supposedly didn't exist. I have spent hours on the phone with their billing department, being passed around time after time and told no charges would be changing. I would only ever return if I had literally no other options.
Called ER. Told me to get lost basically. Wouldn't even tell me whether I should come in. "We cannot give any medical advice or suggestions" what us the point of calling the ER. Would give zero stars, all other networks… took my call.
Had a colonoscopy today. Fantastic staff, the RNs were super sweet and attentive! The procedure went perfect. Thank you to everyone who helped me today (especially since I’m morbidly obese). Also great cafe selection!
I had the pleasure of giving birth at Phelps, and it was truly the best experience! The staff, midwives, nurses, and doctors were all kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming. My experience couldn't have gone more smoothly. I… especially loved that they respected my decisions and strongly supported skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding. The private rooms, birthing balls during labor, and the option of having your own tub made the experience even more comfortable. They also have a wonderful menu where you can choose your own breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I felt supported, comfortable, and cared for every step of the way. 💕
I have been here many times to get blood tests done. Both the secretary and the nurses are very nice and efficient.
My admission to Phelp’s hospital put me in danger of severe medical harm dude to mistakes with my meditations . This hospital is so poorly run that I had to leave and seek treatment elsewhere to my safety being so… severely compromised. During discharge, when I asked how such grave mistakes could take place, I was essentially told it was due to weekend turnover. Safe medical care only five out of seven days is simply not good enough. They also violated my HIPAA privacy by sharing treatment information with my family member prior to my giving consent AND managed to screw up my discharge medication instructions. I have filled a formal complaint with my insurance company and I hope no one else has to go through what I experienced there.
probably the worst hospital in westchester. er worse, rooms, toilet filthy. staff are lazy
Was planning on giving birth here but after falling at 30 weeks I came in for some reassurance that I had not fallen on my stomach as I did not remember. The nurses saved my life & my babies life by monitoring me… closely after my ultrasound came back normal. I was diagnosed with HELLP Syndrome & severe preeclampsia. HELLP Syndrome is a fast & sudden onset with severe complications: Because of low platelets and abnormal clotting, HELLP syndrome vastly increases the risk of life-threatening events like cerebral hemorrhage, stroke, pulmonary edema, and even liver rupture. Just a few days before, at my prenatal checkup- my levels were all normal. They could have easily brushed it off and have sent me home after my ultrasound. I am so grateful looking back- because of them me and my baby are alive and well.
I recently gave birth at Phelps Hospital & I could not have asked for a better experience !! I had no idea what to expect walking into the labor and delivery unit, being that I’m a first time mom, but Dr. Hirsch & Nurse… Yudith took the absolute best care of me and for that I couldn’t be any more thankful. I didn’t get all the other nurses names, but everyone who helped me deliver my baby was incredibly sweet, patient, and had the kind of energy you need when delivering a baby! Dr. Hirsch is a great doctor who I will never forget, and Nurse Yudith was an amazing nurse who calmly walked me through every step of the way, so here’s a huge thank you to you both & to everyone else working in the Labor & Delivery unit at Phelps Hospital !!!
My mom recently passed away at Phelps Hospital, and she passed away with true dignity. Dr. Espinoza was incredibly caring during this difficult time. Our nurse, Justin, was also super attentive to my mom. He checked on… her—and on our family—every single hour. We are deeply grateful for their compassionate care.
Avoid going to the ER waiting time is horrendous. Got checked in at 10pm waited an hour to get called in, had to wait another hour and half for a nurse to see me. They kept forgetting about me for hours. Then to… discharge me was a longer time. On top of it all they didn't know if the doctor spoke to me or if a nurse checked up on me. Left me with an empty iv for hours.
Surgery dept, lab and recovery was excellent. Hospital is always clean, most departments run efficiently and effectively. All the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. They have a starbucks inside, cafeteria… and free parking for both patient and visitors. Wayyyy better than some other hospitals in Westchester.
Went to Phelps (PS - me and all of my sisters were born here so I had every reason to want to trust them) for an emergency room procedure over four months ago. The only follow up communication I ever received from them… was a letter asking for a gift to the hospital. Then, today, over four months later, I got a call from someone at the hospital saying my culture results were in from my visit from today (I was not there today - there was no culture or anything). I saw urgent care near me that was far more helpful than they were. The lack of follow up from Phelps was bordering on negligence (since they failed to provide proper information as to wound care) but the fact that they would call four months later to inaccurately report that my alleged culture results were in is definitely negligence per se. When I informed the guy who called of his mistake, his response was "oh, oops." The doctor who discharged me four months ago was sarcastic and bordering on nasty and overall, I would strongly recommend avoiding the emergency room here.
I had an amazing experience with Phelps for the labor and delivery of my son. The hospital staff as well as the Harrison midwifery practice was amazing. The nursing staff was so attentive and always made sure I was as… comfortable as possible and my needs were met. Special thanks to labor and delivery nurses Kristin and Mary, and midwife Tonya Singer.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE FROM DRS TO BILLING TO SECURITY HORRIBLE D O N ' T. D O N ' T
They talking about managing my pain but they have taken me off medication that helps me with my severe pain. Since I’ve been to this hospital I’ve gotten worst. As a patient who has been here for three weeks, I highly… don’t recommend this hospital!!
Very disappointed at this hospital. I use to love Phelps since my first time with them was 2023. Took really good care of me and the staff was awesome. Now I went last Sunday and felt like I was ignored. Told I might… have Pneumonia but ended up negative. The Doctor on duty was about to discharge me, and I was like so are we going to ignore that fact I also do have MS and I might be experiencing a flare or Pseudo-Exacerbation? He then tells me, I don’t want you to catch anything since I’m Immuno compromised. Valid point but still. I remember when I would have MS symptoms in the past, I remember these kind Doctors/Neurologist would tell me, if you have any issues with your symptoms, just come back here and we’ll treat you. This time it was like a completely different atmosphere. Then they decided to admit me on the 5th floor. The staff was nice but I’ve come across the most unprofessional ones I swear. There were two staff members who was taking care of a patient (old lady) that was so unprofessional. Talking about how they were having issues with the work that was given to them. To the point that they talked about quitting. Um excuse me, I can hear y’all conversations. To me that was very disrespectful, distasteful, embarrassing. Talk about an issue somewhere else where us patients don’t have to hear it. Mind you I worked in the Medical Field myself and seen stuff that was so embarrassing. No decorum whatsoever. Now a day has passed and no Neurologist came. I asked the nurse and he said he’ll let my Doctor know. They came but they looked hesitant to even speak to me and even asked it’s up to me if I wanted to proceed with the MRI! Of course I do! I want to know what’s wrong with my Brain. Cause my gait has been bad for days and I had an episode of my vision just all of a sudden went extremely blurry. Did the MRI, got the results, and there are some disturbing findings that I noticed. But no Neurologist came to see me. I asked the attending Doctor, oh his name is Dr. Trevor Gill, he said the Neurologist looked at my results and cleared me. Really? But there are questions that I have that’s on the findings. Even he seems like he was in a hurry to leave and I was discharged. I don’t think these Doctors checked my notes that I also had a Brainstem Stroke year 2021. Now that I’m home, I’m having shortness of breath, still coughing, dizzy, and my vision is still blurry. This is not to drive away other patients or future patients. But this has been my experience. I like the old team of Neurologist. Dr. Sahni is gone. Dr. T, and Gunawardane. Not sure if she’s still working there. I would also like to say Natalie (nurse), really took care of me. She is so tiny but mighty.
I had a very disappointing and concerning experience at Phelps Hospital. While waiting in the ER, there was a technician stationed right outside our room who was on FaceTime with a friend, talking about her night out… for an entirety of 3 hours. During this, a nurse asked her for help assisting a patient to the bathroom who they were nervous was having a stroke, (great guy it’s his anniversary today) and she ignored the request. We asked for her assistance just to show us how to lower the bed. I was casually was having a cyst on my ovary rupture and just wanted to watch Back to the Future. I did interrupt her important phone call and she was very frustrated. My bad. The lack of professionalism and teamwork was alarming. Another technician came by and she spoke about her night out for an hour and how the man just wanted a green card. (The girl in the gold juicy pants - I don’t think you should take him back- I do think he just wants the green card - you are a star and deserve better) . The one nurse was holding it down. I wish I got your name but you brought me a turkey sandwich. . ( the only picture I took was me asking chat gpt of what a tech does. And if they are allowed to FaceTime… chat gpt said no - people are in pain and if you hate your job go work somewhere else) We waited approximately four hours without being seen, and were told there were delays due to shift changes and computer issues. While I understand that emergencies and system problems happen, the lack of communication and attentiveness made the situation much worse. The only person that was attentive was a gentleman with a beach themed shirt asking for insurance information. Great shirt . What was most upsetting, however, was witnessing how another patient was treated. A woman nearby was clearly asking for help and appeared to be in distress, possibly struggling with substance use. She was asked to be “wanded,” but ultimately left without receiving the help she seemed to need. It was heartbreaking to watch. There was also an opportunity to close her door and give her privacy and dignity during that moment, which unfortunately was not done. Overall, the experience felt disorganized, inattentive, and lacking compassion in moments where it mattered most. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and leads to improvements in both professionalism and patient care. I would drive two hours with a twisted ovarian cyst to never experience Phelps again.
Staff is excellent. Nurses, techs, nps in telemetry are professional, caring, efficient, responsive, smart, knowledgeable and just damn nice. I have a very complex health situation and the care I received at Phelps was… thoughtful and smart.
The admission process was easy. The admissions staff was friendly and helpful. The unit in which I was being treated was efficient. The nurses were personable. The doctor explained everything in advance of the procedure… and afterward showed me pictures of what he had done.
If you could avoid, avoid at all cost. In my six decades of living, I can’t recall meeting more disinterested doctors or staff… I mean we’re talking about people that at worst simply don’t care…and at best are going… through the motions…. The true definition of a clipboard doctor and staff that just wants to go home I gave it two stars because parking was convenient
As a hospital it is what it is. All depends who sees or attends to your issue. With that being said, can't complain about the service received when a family member had a brain tumor from a metastasized lung cancer.
As someone who was struggling with my sobriety, Daffney made a meaningful difference in my care during my time on 2 South. From the very beginning, she treated me with kindness, patience, and respect, which helped me… feel safe and supported during a very vulnerable period. Unlike some of the other nurses, who at times came across as rude or dismissive, Daffney was consistently compassionate and approachable. She became my go to person because I knew she would listen without judgment, explain things clearly, and genuinely care about how I was feeling. I also want to say that I forgot to tell her thank you for everything she did for me, and I am truly hoping that someone tells her this for me . She really is an angel, and her compassion and professionalism had a lasting impact on my recovery journey.
