Sandstone Care – Cascade Reviews and Ratings
Before contacting Sandstone Care, it can help to read how patients and their families describe the program. Their reviews are collected in this section, along with reviews from around the web.
To make a long story short, I would not recommend if you live outside the area. If something happens, (which something did) there really was no plan on where my daughter was going to go while it took me 10 hours to… drive there. I read reviews afterwards and bullying seems to be a reoccurring issue. My daughter has issues, willing went to get help, followed procedures to address the bullying and nothing was done. There is a blackout period the first week, no communication with the outside world. They let my daughter write me a letter, took a pic and emailed it to me. The letter was about how my daughter was having problems with a specific girl, was being bullied and was having panic attacks. I was told that staff reads all outgoing emails and mail so I assume someone read it when they sent it.when I got the call to come pick her up, I asked Elizabeth what happened ,she at first, didn’t know, then stammered. I still have not heard from them about what happened. I got a call back that they wanted her off the property and were sending her to the ER for a mental health evaluation and to direct any questions or concerns to the hospital. That is the last I heard from them. My daughter played a part in what happened (mutual) but according to her and Elizabeth, she was not the aggressor but was discharged. I understand and have no issues with that part. I take issue with the fact that this is a treatment facility for teens who have behavioral, mental and addiction struggles and they accept teens from out of state and seem to have nothing in place if a situation occurs. They dumped her at the ER and washed their hands on it. I signed paperwork to give them guardianship since we do live out of state and they literally could not get rid of her fast enough.
This was A very positive experience for our family. Our daughter was there for two months and she gained invaluable coping skills that will help her succeed. She came home with confidence on her sobriety and a plan for… maintaining. Her counselor McKenzie was awesome and supported her through the entire journey. Our family Counselor Pamela was excellent as well and really helped our family to communicate and put our plan together. Thank you!
So I went here 2 times. Let me tell you it did teach me a lot about life and all in a somewhat controlled environment. First time I went there it was pretty good I would give 4/5 on the first go around. Second time not… the same I still have trauma from that time "working on it in tharpy". I really loved the staff my tharpist one of my favorites I have had though out the years. I will say this though I ran away personal choice. They would not let me sleep I had been up all night and walk all the way to the springs. As a parent I ask you to consider these 2 things btw the first time I got sent to rehab I had a weed problem btw. Is it worth sending my kid to a rehab or is there other treatment options because sandstone will just take your kid for 2 months if you have good insurance and they have some sort of problem wether substance use or mental health. and 2 is that what they need to help them or save there life? Now shout out Kathleen a great tharpist and people like big groege who did some serious shaping in my life I hope you are well. And also one thing to say Amanda you have a hard job you are awesome. The so called higher ups the clinical staff do a better job you are dealing with children's lives. To the parents who are wondering should I send my kid here I don't know. It's up to you. I am not mad or upset. I just wish the clinical higher ups left it up to the people who work there because I think there would be less issues in my opinion. I am doing well in my life I am not trying get into beef with sandstone i am just here to say My peice. I am sober doing good in my life and I am 20 years old. Alive and healthy. So stay well or get well.
Sandstone is an overall good program. My child learned a lot and made a lot of progress dyeing his time here. The facility has great staff who really care. The parent support group is a valuable support with lots of… good information as well as giving parents a space eith other parents who know what it's like. I would recommend Sandstone at Cascade to any family battling with addiction and mental health.
My son is at day 30/60 and he is definitely learning a lot. I think the online sessions, phone updates and emails plus online sessions, help parents who are navigating substance issues with their teen. My son went in… thinking it'd be horrible, but he hasn't been complaining, and I know he's becoming more equipped with coping skills and learning more about why he is the way he is. I like how they focus on communicating for success, for both child and parent. Very thankful for the huge effort staff gives. I highly recommend Sandstone for your teen if you feel completely broken and lost with helping your child. Plus it does give you a moment to breathe knowing your child is safe. Counselors can see through the mask, and they know how to dive deeper into issues. They are absolutely in tune with your Ins, probation and counselors from home, so you feel very supported from all angles.
Initially, I believed this place would be beneficial to my daughter, and I was mistaken. She had the opportunity to engage in useless interactions with others, without feeling pressured to participate when it mattered.… On several occasions, she managed to skip learning and therapy sessions, instead choosing to spend time exchanging stories with her peers. However, when she was discharged, all of her clothes were missing. She had arrived with ten outfits but returned home with only one! They claimed that my daughter had stolen clothes from other children, but when I inquired about her missing clothes, they insisted that the children had traded clothes, and the ones she had traded with were no longer part of the program. This explanation didn’t make sense or add up. In light of these circumstances, I strongly advise against placing your child in this facility.
At a desperate time of need, we trusted our teen here which was out of state. The experience with the female director (Amanda Porter) was terrible. She was unprofessional and unresponsive. The teens and specifically my… son thought poorly of her and from my own personal experience, rightfully so. I think there were a few positive staff members that genuinely wanted to help, although the actions of “leadership” made the entire experience for my child, and us the parents, very stressful! If you can find a quality place, I recommend reading comments and doing your own research first. Sadly, I do not feel my child learned anything positive out of this experience at Sandstone in Colorado.
So far the best experience we could have ever asked for. There is constant communication with the staff, no surprises, rules and expectations were laid out very well. Feel confident in their ability to provide the best… care possible for our needs. Highly recommend
I feel so thankful to have found Sandstone Care Teen Center at Cascade Canyon and grateful for all the help we’re receiving. We’re almost in week 3, and my child seems to be doing well and learning a lot in group. Most… importantly, I know she’s safe, which gives me peace of mind. The therapists are incredibly caring, and I really appreciate how responsive and communicative the staff is—including the weekly updates. Thank you for everything Sandstone.
From our first visit to our last weeks, I felt supported as we went through this very difficult time as a family. I was updated regularly on my son’s progress and give all the information on how he was doing. I talked… to multiple members of his care team weekly, always taking the time to answer my questions and address my concerns. I never felt rushed and never felt that my concern wasn’t valid. The support isn’t just for the child, also for the family. This is what my son needed to help him on his road to recovery. They are diligent on planning “next steps” with me and my son. It wasn’t just triage care, it was all around care and planning for after he was out of the program. Would highly recommend for family seeking treatment for their teens.
A rigid program where beginner therapists are unable to personalize to the individual. If you have a charming, manipulative teenager, they fall for it.
I was misled from admissions stating this facility had the ability to diagnose my daughter who needed dual diagnosis care. It wasn’t until she was already in their care that they stated that they could not actually… diagnose anything but give recommendations- Post discharge their recommendations are not even valid to get a neuropsych test in place. I still had to take her to primary care for that referral. She came home with a hickey on her neck, and more recently I found out that another child there was saving her gabapentin crushing it and snorting it —and taught my child how to snort pills for the first time. She was also released early from the program due to a layoff and change of insurance and sandstone was completely hands off post discharge in regard to ensuring her continuity of care. Complete waste of time and money for my family. 0 stars. Will be filing a grievance.
It’s unfortunate I have to give this 1 star review because I think Sandstone overall was a great experience for my son. But the director Amanda Porter was beyond disrespectful and she is the only reason I give this bad… review.
I had a really bad time at Sandstone Care in Cascade, Colorado. The staff consistently made me feel disrespected; they spoke to me in a dismissive and unprofessional manner, not at all supportive. This is just not the way… someone looking for help ought to be handled. Then, they gave me raw chicken. That's just wrong, and frankly, I was worried about getting sick. That place was so intense and messy, it really messed with my head and made me feel like I was losing it.I just felt ignored, unsafe, and overwhelmed, instead of feeling supported or cared for.I wouldn't send anyone I know here if they're hoping for real care or to be treated with respect. ALSO TO GIVE YOU GUYS A HEADS UP the virtual tour you watch on the website is OUTDATED, the interior is way different than the video, its frankley a jail/mental hospital in a house form when i was there.
Great program and amazing staff
Sandstone was recommended by our child psychologist. My 17 y/o was really struggling from narcissistic abuse & the many issues that arise as a result. From the start of the 60 day inpatient program, he was resistant &… didn’t take it seriously. And his therapeutic needs dealing with narcissistic abuse were not even touched. He refused to participate in family sessions & phone calls. He was not ready to come home at the end of the program & clearly needed to go to the next level of care. But Sandsone just sent him home anyway with the understanding that my child would complete 60 days of outpatient therapy. Within 3 hours of returning home from inpatient, he was back out with friends drinking & using. And he refused to attend the outpatient therapy. I never received a follow up of any kind from Sandsone. Even with my constant callouts & concerns to the staff, they agreed that he wasn’t in a good place, but they offered no real solutions. This was an extremely disappointing experience & an enormous waste of money.
As a parent I appreciated the level of care and understanding given to my daughter. I found the weekly parent talks engaging and incredibly useful in order to better support my daughter at home.
I'm thankful to the staff. Their persistence and attention to my child helped us find out that the issues were past their scope of care and provided the resources needed to get the care that was needed
Highly disappointing. Would never recommend.
Sandstone started out doing a great job for my son who was there for drug rehab. My son was learning about his addiction and self management skills. He is a master manipulator. He figured out how to manipulate them and… was successfull. At his own doing because his behavior drastically changed and ended up getting sent to a higher level of care. The 3 stars are for professionals allowing themselves to be manipulated. I will say they are great at communication. We were updated regularly. I also understand that his behavior presented a danger to himself and this is why he was not allowed to return. He also developed a fowl mouth and relayed to us the staff was OK with it. I however am not. If your child is only dealing with addiction, they are great. Not so much with behavioral issues.
I highly recommend Sandstone Care. They made my child feel welcome and safe, and the wrap-around care is phenomenal!
Experience seemed great until it was over. We received emails. Yes emails of IOP resources here in Pueblo. We were left to contact those locations. Only to discover that they wouldn’t accept us because of our middle… class status. You see, we work! We have great insurance coverage. It absolutely amazes me that there really are No IOP resources in Pueblo unless you are on Medicaid. Is that the fault of sandstone? No! But I could have googled resources….. yes googled… just as easy sandstone did. We were left with NOTHING! NOTHING! Our son left Sandstone as a success! Respected and admired by employees at sandstone. He looked great! He was happy! He was motivated and so were we! With no resources (yes actual real resources) we and Jake feel like failures! It has been more than a month since anyone has reached out! What do we do? $1200 more per day? Drop Jake off for 2 months? I wish I sounded more positive because the day we picked Jake up (12/19/2025) it felt positive. No looking back……..not so much. Families need real resources! Not just google! We need to be set up with what’s next! Not just good luck and hope your child stays sober. I think back to the parent meetings when I heard “this is my child’s 3rd or 4th time here at sandstone…….. now I understand! And I believe it’s not just a child’s relapse or a families lack of effort. It is no resources or lack thereof upon finishing up at sandstone! Feel free to call or contact me anytime. I’m not angry! I’m just frustrated! I’m at a loss for addiction and mental health resources! Thanks ! Paul Spear
I went to this facility twice, the first time I was unwilling to commit to sobriety when I left, but the second time around I realized things where getting bad and asked my mom to send me back, I learned a lot, made… friends, and one who I still talk to and is my sobriety sister Aspen, I love her to death, and im greatful for sandstone to give me the knowledge and time to become sober. It has been almost two years now that I have been sober! And I am greatful for all of the staff who helped along the way, especially Miss Amanda for letting me come back a second time, and poblo and Big George for sitting with me through the hardest times, I think back to my stay when I feel low and I remember the struggles that I saw other patients go through. Knowing that most of the staff are Ex-addicts and have been sober for years gives me hope I can do the same, so thank you to everyone there. I recommend this place to other kids who need it, you have to be willing to get sober though and put in the work, even if you don't show up with 100% still just putting in what you can in group is great, and its ok to be scared of change or not want it, but in the end it will help! I hope for another good year of sobriety and I'm thankful for my mother for having the straight to put me through the program. For any parents out there the road will be long and scary to get your kid sober but you have to hold on, and keep your head up there is a light at the end of this tunnel please don't give up!
Worst company ever do not recommend
Staff dedicated to clients for rehab. Unfortunately, our granddaughter couldn't see that. She was only there 21 days before her negative actions caused her to be transferred out of treatment. Thank you to the medical… staff and counselors for the work they did while she was there.
Do not take your child here - it's not safe here. It is not what you think. The staff is misleading and when my granddaughter was struggling no one called me for days to let me know. We got her out the next day she was… being harassed and bullied staff did nothing. Drug use while she was there and kids bringing in drugs and glamorizing the drug use. How is a kid supposed to get help when all this is going on around them and no one is doing anything about it. I would give it zero stars if I could.
