InterGroup Services is a Malvern, Pennsylvania PPO provider network founded in 1984. Is InterGroup Services an insurance company?

No, InterGroup Services is a PPO network that insurers, employers and third-party administrators rent for access to contracted providers. It does not set benefits, decide medical necessity or pay claims. The health plan named on your member ID card does all of that.

Does InterGroup cover therapy and mental health treatment?

No, counseling and mental health benefits come from the member's own plan. Visit limits, copays and any behavioral health carve-out vendor are that plan's decisions. The network's role is limited to contracted rates at participating counselors, clinics and hospitals in its four states.

At certain employers the behavioral health benefit is run by a separate vendor, so ask the plan who manages authorization for counseling.

Does InterGroup require prior authorization for rehab?

No, prior authorization is not handled by the network. The Prime Health Services provider manual tells participating providers to contact the insured's plan for anything needing precertification or utilization review, so the paying plan authorizes inpatient stays, residential treatment and intensive outpatient care.

Medical necessity criteria such as ASAM come from that plan as well, since InterGroup publishes none of its own.

Does InterGroup cover Suboxone or methadone?

No, InterGroup has no formulary of its own. Whether buprenorphine, Suboxone, naltrexone or methadone is covered, and what it costs, is set by the member's health plan and its pharmacy benefit. Dosing at an opioid treatment program bills through that same plan.

Ask the prescriber or clinic to check the plan's formulary tier and any step therapy rules before the first dose.

There is no InterGroup copay or deductible, because the network sets no cost sharing.
