Common questions

Answered from what is listed here.

Does Nascentia cover rehab?

Yes, through its Medicare plan. Nascentia Dual Advantage, the HMO dual eligible special needs plan, covers inpatient hospital care including substance use rehabilitation, outpatient substance use services, partial hospitalization and opioid treatment programs. Nascentia Health Options, the Medicaid managed long-term care plan, does not cover addiction treatment at all.

Health Options members use their regular New York Medicaid benefit card for substance use treatment, since behavioral health stays with Medicaid fee-for-service.

Does Nascentia cover inpatient rehab?

Yes. Under Nascentia Dual Advantage, inpatient acute hospital care including substance use treatment and rehabilitation is covered, with prior authorization required only for elective and scheduled admissions. For members with both Medicare and Medicaid, New York Medicaid also covers inpatient substance use care up to 365 days a year.

Emergency and urgent admissions need no advance authorization. For a scheduled admission, the Referrals and Authorization Department can be reached at 1-888-477-0090.

Does Nascentia Health Options cover drug or alcohol rehab?

No. Nascentia Health Options is a partially capitated managed long-term care plan, so it pays for home care, personal care, adult day health, nursing home care and similar services. Methadone treatment and most mental health services fall outside the plan's benefit and stay with regular Medicaid.

Members pay for those services with the New York Medicaid Benefit Card through fee-for-service Medicaid; the New York Medicaid Help Line is 1-800-541-2831.

Nascentia Health is a nonprofit home and community care organization in Syracuse, New York that also runs three small health plans of its own. Two are Medicare Advantage special needs plans sold as Nascentia Health Plus, and one is a Medicaid managed long-term care plan. Which card is in the wallet decides whether addiction treatment is paid for at all.

Nascentia Dual Advantage, the dual eligible special needs plan, carries the full Medicare behavioral health benefit, including inpatient care for substance use, partial hospitalization, outpatient services and opioid treatment programs. Nascentia Health Options, the Medicaid managed long-term care plan, is partially capitated: it pays for home care, personal care and nursing home care, while methadone treatment and most mental health services stay with regular New York Medicaid and the Medicaid Benefit Card.

This guide covers what each plan pays for at each level of care, where prior authorization applies and who to call for it, what a member actually pays, how addiction medication is handled on the 2026 formulary, and how to work out which programs across New York sit inside the right network.
