This place is absolutely God awful compared to what I expected from it when I went in 2015. Their pool was drained my entire stay. They advertised routine acupuncture and only provided it once during my 30 days and… their whole facility is run down. Some of the staff were decent people at heart but the councilor I received was absolute trash. My councilor never talked to me about the drivers of my addiction or provided genuine care. My "councilor" only pushed for me to go into a sober living facility instead of what I was willing to pursue. However, I will admit, this place did help me no longer engage in addictive behaviors; but only did so by providing a "scared straight experience". They do not engage in proven scientific recovery methods or provide holistic care. They are a mid tier facility or Medicaid beneficiaries but absolutely awful if you have a better private or employee sponsored insurance. Their doctors are terribly educated and lack compassion. I left my university to attend a 30 day program here because my medical provider prescribed an excessive amount of Adderall in 2015. When I asked the physician at The River Source to provide me a letter to prove I was receiving medical treatment, he wrote down that I was receiving treatment for methamphetamine. When I asked the physician to re-write the letter with the correct drug I was receiving treatment for, he stated, "no Adderall is the same thing." I understand the sentiment that the severity of my drug addiction being equivalent to methamphetamine use, however, this was an empirically incorrect statement. My university refused to accept my withdrawal request for the semester due to this letter. This place was truly a horrifying experience for me. Although I have recovered and live a relatively prosperous life. The damage created by this facility was almost worse than the drug addiction I was suffering.
Mice coming out of the kitchen. Not clean. No food options nor respected specific diets. I was sexually assaulted by another client. Horrible place. Never EVER send anyone here.
Excellent staff
Beware of potential FRAUD! I went to detox in Arizona City and was charged $5600. Upon leaving they told me that my secondary insurance Medicaid would pick up the cost which is great right?! Well no! A year and a half… later of fighting back and forth with the billing manager Christina I have been screwed out of that $5,600. They didn't correctly file the insurance claim within the 90-day time frame (which I didn't know about until recently) so now all I can do is ask my insurance for a reimbursement. Well that's all good and great but Christina will not return my calls or emails at this point and provide me with my bill and proof of payment. This has caused so much undue stress and turmoil and affects my recovery. I have even gone to the Gilbert location last week and talked to someone there who sent the billing manager a message and I still haven't heard back anything. I also just called admissions and they did the same thing and now I'm left waiting again.... a year and a half later. This is seriously messed up. This is no a way to treat anybody, especially someone in recovery!
Scary place, located in the middle of nowhere.
I just left River Source in Arizona City today. it was a great experience! The staff was great and the program exceeded my expectations. I have to give a shout out to my case manager Delia. She always made time for me… and everyone else. I also have to give shout out to Francisco, a great BHT. And to T, Brandon, Fernando, Ecendeo, Kevin, Miguel, the nurses,Dr's, super shout out to therapist J-Nice and Brenda and Josset. You guys gave me the tools I need to be successful. Going to a meeting at 12. Thank you all!! Much love Rene Thibodeaux
Great experience. No better support. Private room and shower. Highly recommended
They don't bother calling or updating you at all, they claim they're adults and don't bother reaching out to family. Even when they're transported to the hospital. They were quick to take my brother in but that's about… it. After I expressed I was concerned about the process and being in the know. They didn't let me know he was taken to the hospital after a bad reaction!
No one wants to go to detox/residential rehab but When you leave this place you will be glad you did. I've been to several detox/drug treatment centers but none are like this. Groups are informative. They give you a… foundation needed for success. They explain the steps and guide you through as many as you can in a 30 day period. You can feel supported, safe, and gain a sense of fellowship. I enjoyed the holistic therapy, meditation therapy and the hikes. Food was good, snacks whenever you want 24/7 nurses, you can smoke cigarettes/vape. Staff cares about your recovery. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction do yourself a favor and give them a call. This is a real review predicated on the fact that I am clean and sober for the first time in forever. Good luck and God bless.
Best detox, staff, & care given. Highly recommend this place for detox and rehab needs for drugs and alcohol. Staff is very caring, Francisco and weekend staff rock, thank you!!
DO NOT send anyone you care about here! If I could give this place zero stars I definitely would do so! My son entered this facility on a Sunday in July. He was in detox for about 5 days. On day 6 he called me and… sounded a little strange. On day 7 when we were supposed to be able to come and visit him, I received a phone call at 2 AM stating he was having an “episode” and the crisis team was called. I was called about 2 hours later and told he was not taken by the crisis team but that he wanted to leave. When I spoke with him, it was clear something was wrong. I asked if he had been given any medication and they told me he was given Seroquel and Trazadone. I asked if there was a doctor on staff that could check to see if he was having an adverse reaction to the medication. I was told the doctor wouldn’t be in until Monday. I was then called by the “director” and told I needed to meet her there at 9 to pick him up. At 6:50 I was called and told my son fled the facility and I needed to come immediately. Since we were about an hour away, my husband and I arrived shortly before 8. When we arrived the director was outside, handed me my son’s bag and then told me he ran into a field. I was told they were not equipped to handle mental health concerns but only substance abuse. I would like to know why their website says otherwise and they clearly prescribe heavy duty mental health medication???? We drove around for 3 hours looking for my son only to find out from the local fire department that he was arrested on the Riversource property!! The so called director clearly knew what happened yet allowed us to search AZ City for hours looking for our son. My son had a severe adverse reaction to the medication they gave him. He ended up in the Florence Hospital. Clearly they give medication with little to no medical supervision to make sure patients are okay. This place should lose its license. I repeat, DO NOT go here or send anyone you know here!
Please DO not go here. It's absolutely run down and the medical care was abysmal. Support techs were kind but they are not in charge of your care.
This place is crap. First don't be fooled by the pictures. It's run down and ugly. Secondly, they kicked my son out after a week. They tried to take him off his Suboxone in a week and refused to titrate slower claiming… some protocol bs. As you would expect this agitated him and they claimed he was volatile and needed to leave. Kicked him to the curb literally and made him wait there while it took us over an hour to get to him. Because he was only there for a week they owe us almost $1000 refund and 5 months later still nothing and no response from the person we had been communicating with about the refund. I want our money back!
I successfully completed 7 day detox here and it was an absolutely amazing experience. The staff was awesome and Gerry was incredible!! Thank you all for being the first step in my road to recovery. I love all of you… there. Anthony Marinelli, October 14th to the 21st 2024
I don’t know how this place has 4.4 starts this place was awful like manny people mentioned they kicked me out at 5am while I was hallucinating as well as called the police on me I would give this place zero stars if I… could if you care about the people you are sending here just Don’t
I have been through this process so many times I nearly gave up. I found my spiritual awakening in the Arizona City Desert. Thank you River Source for helping guide me out of the darkness. Your staff and facilities… reminded me what it feels like to live again. I will forever be grateful... If you're ready to change your life this is an amazing place to start.
If you love your family DO NOT LET THEM GO HERE. My dad went for treatment and had paranoia and hallucinations with the withdraws. The facility let him leave in the night, where he passed away that evening since he was… on his own in a bad state. Please please I urge you to go anywhere else.
Father in law checked in for support with sleeping medications and while detoxing was experiencing hallucinations which are a common side effect. Instead of providing the support he needed during his stay the facility… allowed him to leave while going through these dangerous withdrawals causing him to wander around an unknown city in the heat with a dead cellphone.
They grossly mishandled my dads detox and let him walk out of the facility while he was hallucinating to roam free at night in the heat.
Their detox was the best thing I ever did.
Do not come here if you’re having severe alcohol withdrawals. My cousin went unresponsive yesterday due to their negligence of not providing meds when needed. They sent him to the hospital and when he was released back… to their care they had medically discharged him telling him he had to leave the facility. They packed his belongings and didn’t offer him a ride and wouldn’t allow him to wait at the facility to find a ride at 8pm. He had to walk to a Dollar General to wait for a ride in the middle of nowhere. Once he checked his belongings he realized they didn’t give him the medicine he brought in from his PCP. We’ve called and left messages but they won’t respond. Unfortunately, he will probably have to go back to the hospital today because he may have a seizure. They could’ve helped him find a facility that could handle his level of care, instead they discharged him with no guidance and no medication. I’ve contacted an attorney as I don’t want this to happen to anyone else. 😢
River Source is a horrible environment. They take advantage of your insurance, lack empathy and will kick you out if they can’t get what they want out of your insurance company. This review is edited as I just revisited… it in my Google maps app. When I originally wrote the review, I was pressured by the staff to write a good review while I was vulnerable and suffering from addiction. Unfortunately, I chose to go there twice. Once in 2017 and once in 2019. 2019 was my final goodbye to addiction and it was by no means because of the “support” or “help” I received at this facility. The food is absolutely disgusting, the nurses treat you like you’re an inmate, the BH techs are barely 12 months sober (when I was there). I witnessed the director and a BH tech get into a relationship and start using again while I was there. They think by breaking you down little by little that you’ll somehow be brainwashed into following their orders and going to their out patient program, which was also a huge waste of time, energy and money. It was basically like going to elementary school with drug tests. I’ve been sober for 6+ years by my own standards and self will, self work and the absolute desire to never be reliant on drugs or alcohol. I’m happy, make a large salary, own a home, a car, etc. don’t let them tell you you’ll be in a tent behind Walmart if you don’t take their advice like they did with me and the group of men I was there with.
The Riversource is the best treatment center I’ve been to. The employees are very knowledgeable and genuinely caring. The programming is extremely helpful and has built a sober foundation for me. I’m extremely grateful… and thankful to be able to start a new life, happy and sober!
Saw some bad reviews saying they only had coffee and water no snacks not true. So they had a juice machine with orange juice, apple juice, cranberry juice and fruit punch all tasted great coffee half of the day four… kinds of cereal and never ran out of milk haha they hadd plenty of snacks, fresh fruit and a couple times when i couldnt think of eating anything but chicken noodle soup my roomate requested to staff and they put out a crockpot of soup on top of the meal that was scheduled.that was awesome. yeah so 2 to a room tv with youtube amzon all the works tv was a little small but not to small. Management justice was a good dude and shout out to bht chris P both handle things very professionally and in a way that makes you feel comfortable definitely earned a good review.
Exceptional care. Highly recommend. Well-trained, caring and knowledgeable staff. They have a program geared to success.
Best treatment center in AZ. I completed their 30 days inpatient residential and TRS is well worth the money and/or drive. Their program has given me the tools to get and stay sober, their staff has gone above and… beyond for me personally and their facility is in a fantastic location for those looking to recover. I would recommend the River Source to anyone considering inpatient recovery.
This place is trash. I'm reporting them to the State and the media so that they will be exposed. They kicked my girlfriend out at 11pm and she had to WALK, in the dark, in an unfamiliar environment, to the nearest gas… station (which happens to be about 3 miles from the facility). She was kicked out because she was upset that she was told that this was an all-women's facility, only to arrive to all male clients being present and a majority male staff working shifts. They made her leave and did not give her her belongings(clothes, phone) which is why she had to walk 3 miles to use the phone. This place seriously needs to be investigated, and I'm going to be the one to blow the whistle.
I was a patient at the River Source for 30 days from Crystal Meth addiction and heroin addiction. I flew there from Florida, terrified, not knowing where i was going, and being gay, I was never able to open up, or feel… safe to, mainly due to the older southern employees ***update after 8 years of graduating this program*** I’ve been working in the behavioral healthcare field, obtained my CAC and CRRA, and have recently been doing Utilization Review since 2019. After coming home from this program, I completely left depressed, and had passive SI, and it didn’t take long to realize why. This program is 100% shame based, using a program from the 1930s. I have flashbacks to groups we had, one in particular that we had to sit in a circle, and each resident had to stand in the middle of the circle and do a verbal 3rd step (telling the whole group the horrible things we have done to others,..trying to refrain from the more explicit things for this post). It took 2 years of therapy to help me unlearn everything I was thought. Shame based approaches like this only fuel the self hatred that the patients come in having, and shame and trauma is the number 1 killer The book of Alcoholics Anonymous was published in 1939, 85 years ago. The Riversource, ONY uses that as their treatment modality . In 2020, 65,000 Americans died of opioid and fentanyl overdoses. In 2023, that number worse to 122,000, majority being those 18-27 years old. One of those 122,000 young people was my husband. But yet facilities like this claim AA is the only answer. Riversource, science has come a long way. Time to wake up. Stop killing our kids. We miss them.
Not sure why there are not more bad reviews here but this is one . My brother who has been there 9 days just got out of detox transferred to residency. Then they claim to find a old marijuana vape that was in his stuff… he did not have access to till that day of transfer. Why was that not found at check in ?? So then they decide to release him without letting any family members they did so. So I'm a lil confused how you can kick a patient out to the streets no airline no calls to family. Mind you he is very Ny with no idea we're he is . The odacity Theresa case manager right down the head director Roberta . But when he flew in you better bet they were there to collect him and the money they would get for the detox stay. There were issues with insurance we're there wouldn't be coverage till the 1st so a couple days to them rather then saving someone's life is more important then to kick them out . In the time being my family has to wait and work on a nother rehabilitation center which I can bet has more qualified staff to and that actually care about the individuals not money.
